How Close Can You Get? Bubba Raceway Park Media

Jimmy Rouse -The drivers in the Top Gun Sprint Car Series, UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks, and Gladiators were all pushing the issue which resulted in some great action. Of course, when you push it to the limit, things can go crazy on the clay at Bubba Raceway Park.

In their long-awaited return at Bubba Raceway Park, the Sportsman ran a very exciting race with a familiar face in victory lane. The lap 6 caution came out for debris in turn 2 and allowed for hard-charging Davey Kinsey, in the 2010 championship car for Big Frog Motorsports, to catch the leaders. After the yellow break, Forrest Gough drove his 21 from the back in an impressive drive. Lap 9 saw contact result in Collin Wright’s 38 spinning and stalling in turn 2. The final 6 were green and JO Nobles absolutely dominated the event in his special Sportsman. Davey Kinsey took 2nd with Gough in 3rd. John Bradley ran a clean race and went home 4th and the same of 5th place Charlie Davis. Bill Adams, Adam Collins, and Collin Wright took the checkered flag within the top 10 while “Big Puddin” Billy Costello, with clutch troubles, and Chris Shea, who had a tire cut earlier in the race, took 9th and 10th, respectively, while in the garage. Stickler and Miller Take Points Leads with Wins

Saturday night was an action packed night at the county’s action attraction, the Citrus County Speedway. Starting off the nights events were the time trial qualifying laps for the Sportsman division, to help determine the starting order, for their 50 lap $1000 to win feature. When the dust settled, it was Aaron Williamson (13) who took the top qualifier award with a fast lap of 14.75 seconds around the ¼ mile. Following Williamson in qualifying were Brandon Morris (56) in 2nd, and Cody Stickler in 3rd. After some help from one of the speedways young fans, 11 year old Xavier, the inversion dice roll come up with a 1. That meant that the fans would choose between 2,4, or a 6 row inversion to start the feature. As usual, the fans chose for a 6 row inversion, putting your top qualifier starting in the 11th position for the green. Leading the field to the green now, was the duo of Kevin Harrod (34) and Tom Posavec (01). At the drop of the green, 3rd place starter Dennis Neighbor Sr. (83) would go to the top spot followed by 5th place starter Mike Bresnahan (69). Caution would come out on lap 4, for a spin, and Neighbor would give up his lead when he headed to the pits with a mechanical problem. Bresnahan would bring the field to green with Chad Pierce (157) now in 2nd, and Cody Stickler (99) in 3rd. Stickler would make the move on Pierce for 2nd on lap 6 and set his sights on the leader Bresnahan. Over the next 15 laps, Stickler and Bresnahan would wage one of the closest battles of the night, Stickler would try to make the pass several times, only to have the door slammed shut as they entered the corner. Finally on lap 21, Stickler would kick the door wide open, when contact would send Bresnahans 69 machine up the banking in turn 1. Stickler and fast qualifier Williamson would both make the move on the low side, and Bresnahan would settle back into the 3rd position. Despite several short cautions over the last half of the race, Stickler was able to pull away on each restart, and go on to take the win. Williamson would come from his 11th starting position to finish 2nd and take home the hard charger honors also. Bresnahan would hold out for 3rd under heavy pressure from Brandon Morris (56) and Richie Smith (4) over the final 5 laps. Point contender Ernie Reed (55) once again had a rough night, being involved in two incidents, which left his racer wounded. Reed would ultimately retire to the pits, and take another big blow to his championship chase hopes. Sticklers win broke the tie atop the points standings with Morris, and now gives him a 7 point lead in the chase for the championship. (more…)

Full Moon brought out wrecks, flips and a wedding at PGS

Story and results from 9-10

The night started out with remembering those we lost, prayer and a salute given by Chaplin Dick Stone from Storm Ministries in remembering 911, then the flag at half mast during the playing of our Nation Anthem. The sun went down and the full moon came out which brought wrecks, flips and even a Wedding to PGS on a hot summer night.

Pro 4 class started the night off with a 25 lap featured event that usually runs caution free, was it really the full moon that brought a caution before the first lap was scored. After some words of wisdom to some drivers from the flagman, the cars were lined back up and and the green was out. What looked to be advice well taken as the sixteen car field battle through sixteen laps with Naples driver Dylan Bigley out to the lead. Cody Allen from Lehigh fought his way up to challenge Bigley till a caution came out on lap sixteen, after a few more cautions and a few questionable restarts the checkered flag was out and all the rumors were put to rest as all sixteen cars were crossing the finish line. Who knew as the cars crossed the line to finish the race a few cars would “tangle” and the end results would be some innocent drivers sitting on the track with their cars tore up. The 04 of Ryan Collver crossed the line in first place with Dan Collver second and Bigley held on for third. (more…)

Clear, All Clear

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

The RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators were all set to take to the track and they all gave it their best. Of course, points are on the line and every driver wants to be part of the battle.

The Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks had 21 show up and they all put on a fantastic battle. Chad Scranton started on the pole and pulled away at the start. On lap 6 Cory Hupp, Heat race winner, slowed in turn 2 causing a chain reaction in which Steve Osteen slowed and Phil Brown did as well. Osteen and Brown made contact and Brown hit the tire and flipped his #13. Brown was okay after the accident. Under the red flag the points leader and 2nd place driver, Tim Powers, pitted meaning he’d have to drive the 44 back through the field. The green flag fell again and the final 14 were caution free. Chad Scranton made it 3-for-3 as he’s missed a few races in 2011 while Kevin Durden had to settle for 2nd. Brett Barrett put his 109 in 3rd with a fantastic run and Tim Powers salvaged some points with 4th, his worst finish of 2011. Jeff Rodgers rounded out the top 5. Buck Woodhouse had a calm night with 6th the result, Joe Belkey was 7th, Joe Boyd a quiet 8th, Devin Walker did an impressive job for 9th, and James Erickson steadily moved up the grid for a top 10.
