Saldana, Outlaws Return to Deer Creek on Saturday, Sept. 15

The FVP Outlaw Showdown is final World of Outlaws race of the season in Minnesota

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. – Sept. 5, 2012 – Joey Saldana is a big fan of Deer Creek Speedway.

Saldana is 2-for-2 at the high-banked, 3/8-mile oval, which hosts the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Saturday, Sept. 15, in the FVP Outlaw Showdown. He claimed the inaugural event in 2009 and Saldana followed up in 2010 before missing last season’s event because of an injury.

“Luckily the two races we’ve been there we’ve won them both, so it’s been a great place for me,” Saldana said. “I enjoy racing there. The fans support it and it’s a cool area to go to.

“It’s a fast, little race track. You get running up on the wall, so it makes it pretty exciting. You definitely have to watch where you’re at on the race track and the groove and where you need to be. It puts on a good show.”

Steve Kinser led all 35 laps to claim last season’s event at Deer Creek, where Donny Schatz finished second and Kerry Madsen rounded out the podium. (more…)

Brett Hearn Taking Aim at a Record Sixth Super DIRT Week Crown in 2012

Veteran racer on top of his game heading into 41st Annual NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – Sept. 4, 2012 – Brett Hearn, five-time winner of the VP Small Engine Fuels 200 and seven-time Super DIRTcar Series titlist, is looking ahead to Oct. 3-7 for the biggest annual DIRTcar race of the season, the 41st NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week at the New York State Fairgrounds.

“Syracuse is a much different race and is a much different animal than anything we ever run,” said Hearn on Tuesday afternoon as the first guest on weekly Super DIRT Week calls with media members. “You don’t go there to watch a 30-lap sprint, you go there to watch a long race. Now you’ve got pit strategy and crew members playing into it.”

(Click this link to hear Brett Hearn’s entire media conference)

Given the nature of the race, Hearn struggles deciding whether to build a car special for the VP Small Engine Fuels 200, a 200-mile Big-Block Modified race Sunday, Oct. 7, or use a car he has been familiar and successful with during the season. Last year, Hearn decided to build a new car and plans to use that car again this year. (more…)

ORRVILLE, Ohio (Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012)By Brian Liskai   What a weekend Danny Holtgraver had   two University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Car wins and a runner-up finish. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania resident scored his third career UNOH All Star win Sunday at the NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway to wrap up the Labor Day weekend, after a close second the previous night at Attica and on Friday taking the win at Lernerville.

What an unbelievable weekend what an unbelievable night. I watched the B-main and the dash and it was pretty much no passing and a little dusty.

Then we go out for the feature and the track just got awesome. To come from 16tth with just one yellow I still can t believe the car was that good,  said Holtgraver beside his Kargo Quality Cars and Trucks/Alternative Power Sources/Spinneweber Auto Sales, VRP Shocks backed #D4.  (more…)

Trosclair Beats Hurricane Isaac To Reclaim Point Lead

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA made a very eventful week a successful one by reclaiming the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point lead after a Week 23 win at Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA driving the J. Dunning Sandblasting and Painting Special.  It was the 22nd win of the season for Trosclair and his 11th 50-point win.

With five NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 23 races rained out due to Hurricane Isaac and its remnants, Trosclair had to make a 900-round trip to Albany, GA and win the race to net two points.

Clanton Aims For Eldora Speedway Crown-Jewel History With Victory In Prestigious World 100 On Saturday (Sept. 8)

World of Outlaws Late Model Series Star In Position To Become Just Third Driver To Win Dream & World 100 In Same Season

ROSSBURG, OH – Sept. 4, 2012 – Shane Clanton joined a select group of all-star drivers with his victory in June’s Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway. He’ll etch his name on an even more exclusive list with another crown-jewel triumph at the famed half-mile oval this Saturday night (Sept. 8).

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series standout from Fayetteville, Ga., has his focus squarely set on capturing the prestigious 42nd annual World 100 – a success that would make him just the third driver to win both of Eldora’s marquee DIRTcar-sanctioned Late Model events in the same season.

“That’s what we’re shooting for,” said Clanton, who seeks to pull off a ‘Big E’ big-race sweep accomplished previously only by dirt Late Model immortals Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark. (1998 and 2010) and Donnie Moran of Dresden, Ohio (1996). “Winning the World is a big enough deal itself, but doing something that only two of the greatest drivers of our sport have done before would be so cool.” (more…)

Despite DuQuoin Rainout, ARCA Properties Active on Labor Day Weekend

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, ARCA’s top division, did not race Monday after consistent Labor Day weekend rain at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds left the facility unsuitable for competition.

The race has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 14, five days before the season finale at Kansas Speedway. Before those two events, the series will contest race No. 18 of 2012 at Salem Speedway next Saturday, September 15.

The last ARCA Racing Series event to be postponed to another weekend for weather was in 2003. A June race at Pocono Raceway was pushed back more than a month after inclement weather in Pennsylvania. Casey Mears then won both legs of the late July doubleheader, one on Friday and one on Saturday. (more…)
