Cedar Lake Speedway’s USA Nationals Will Become An All-World of Outlaws Late Model Series Weekend In 2013

Thursday-Night WoO LMS Program Added To Aug. 1-3 Spectacular At Track Owned By National Tour’s 2012 Promoters of the Year

CONCORD, NC – Nov. 20, 2012 – On Nov. 4 the management of Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., was announced as the recipient of the 2012 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Promoter of the Year Award.

Two weeks later, Cedar Lake’s quartet of co-owners – brothers Chuck, Steve and Bob Kaufman and Brad Both – continue to show what a worthy selection they were.

The presenters of the prestigious USA Nationals – the richest race on the WoO LMS schedule for the last three years – are making the 26th annual edition of the summertime spectacular an all-World of Outlaws weekend. The 2013 USA Nationals on Aug. 1-3 will kick off on Thursday night with a full WoO LMS points program topped by a $6,000-to-win A-Main, track and series officials announced on Monday.

The new-look USA Nationals preliminary-night card will lead into the main event’s traditional two-day format, which includes time trials, heat races and a dash on Friday night (Aug. 2) and last-chance events and the $50,000-to-win 100-lapper on Saturday evening (Aug. 3).

“The Thursday portion of the USA Nationals has taken many different forms over the years,” said Cedar Lake Speedway’s Bob Kaufman. “It’s been an unsanctioned show, it’s been a WRDL-sanctioned show when that series existed and for the past two years it’s been a Cornbelt Clash event. (more…)

Make Your Point

Jim Rouse (11-19-12) Ocala, FL – Bubba Is Thankful Weekend will see 6, maybe 7, champions crowned over the 2 days as the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars all get at least 1 more shot on the clay. Friday’s event will host Modifieds, Thunder Stocks, and Gladiators as well as the finale for Late Models and Sprint Cars.

Mark Whitener and the #58 Big Frog Motorsports team have put up some big numbers in 2012 and it seems inevitable that “The Magic Man” will take the title back to Middleburg. There’s still plenty to fight for, however, as glory and $3000 sits on the line. Christian Augspurger, fresh off of a win at his home track in the UDLMCS, will try to take home another big win (yes, his other win did come in a $3000 race over? #58). Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., Tyler Ivey, Richard Ferry, the Nosbisch brothers, Bo Allen, and Jeff Mathews will throw their hands into the mix and show what an All-Star caliber race is all about. A champion will receive his crown and it’s going to be magical. (more…)

Season Finale Settles Four-Way Battle for 10th Points Position

Hendersonville, NC (11/19/12) –While many fans and contenders were focused on the Championship battle, there was a four-way battle for the final tenth place position in the 2012 Championship points.  Roger Powell and Ronnie Bassett Jr. were in a dead tie coming into the “Classic 3 Championship” weekend. With Ronnie’s four-win season and Powell’s seven top-10 finishes, including his win at Newport, this gave both drivers a total of 789 Championship points for the 2012 season. Both drivers decided to sit out during the season finale giving Tim George Jr. and William Gallaher the opportunity to battle it out for that final top ten spot.

George Jr. and Gallaher were so close in points, that the pressure of their race finish would determine the final top ten points position. Taking the position by only five championship points, George Jr.’s top-10 finish for the race at Rockingham locked him into that final top ten position. (more…)

Rookie Driver Chad Chastain Makes it Two Wins in a Row

The first feature of the night was the Rookie Truck class for twenty five laps, that saw Travis Miller of North Ft. Myers on the pole and Corey Bigley outside. Miller took the first lap but Bigley quickly got by him to run the first half of the race in the lead, while Chad Chastain of Alva was making his way through the field. Half way mark, Chastain made the move on Bigley to take over the lead and go onto win the race.

T.Q. Midgets were up next and what a race it was when the race was red flagged after just two laps in the books. Coming out of turn four it appeared that Chris Gimmler got loose and spun flipping over on his side. While trying to avoid the 51, the 11 of Jimmy Wilkens III of Ft Pierce spun and landed on its side. David Patterson of Port Charlotte came out of four, went down low, hit the grass and the Midget went airborne, spinning several times in the air. The car landed and bounced and rolled several times before stopping upside down. Once the clean up was done it was the 7 of Jamie Barnum of Brooksville that went on to win the race while Rob Kohler was a close second and Mike Belusar was third. (more…)
