Jim Rouse, BRP Media, Ocala, FL- Night of a Thousands was once more upon Bubba Raceway Park with the Bubba Army 360 Sprints, Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators all chasing the cash.

Hobby Stock action was first with Tommy Hill the original leader from outside pole. Grady Christian and Charlie Seroki spun early and kept the field tight enough for Jerome Dipple to lead a lap before spinning the #14 around. Dipple left Devin Walker with the lead but Walker relinquished it back to Hill. Tommy Hill was able to stave the threats from Walker and his team-mate, Scotty Kay, Jr., off to win the cool $1000. Kay made it a 1-2 while Walker settled for 3rd. Walker is now, unofficially, the points leader by a few points over Hunter Gustafson. Brian Hansford and Don Woosley completed the top 5. Gustafson, as well as Dennis Williams and Tim Gay, won their heat races.

The Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifeds started off with “The Wellsville Wheelman” Paul Snyder leading from 3rd staring spot. On lap 3 Jeff Mathews made the move on Snyder to take the lead. Ron Burgess spun in turn 2 to bring the race’s first yellow out on lap 15. Bryan Bernhardt, a heat winner along with Buzzie Reutimann, had a tire go flat under yellow and forced him to relinquish 3rd place. A few other cautions allowed drivers a shot at Mathews but there was no stopping “The Repo Man.” Reutimann finished 2nd over Bernhardt, Snyder, and Kenny Monohan (in a 3rd Mathews Motorsports car).

Tony Agin used his pole position to lead the first few laps of the Bubba Army 360 Sprints race before allowing Sport Allen to take a shot at it. Allen lost the lead on lap 15 to Danny Martin, Jr. Allen soon knew what had happened- his wing had broken off of the back mounts! Allen stayed out for a few laps but eventually brought a caution out. Martin wouldn’t let a smoking engine stop him from sweeping as he climbed to the top over heat race winner Robbie Smith, Agin, Johnny Gilbertson, and Mike Tharp.

The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks made the night interesting. Drivers such as Mike Tovet, Brandon Elwood, Brandon Tillander, and James Sullivan nearly (or did) wreck their equipment. Shane Nichols took the Valdes Home Improvements #15 to the front and stayed there. Nichols fought through cautions for drivers like Tommy Hill, Chuck Cessna, and James Erickson. Nichols went home $1000 richer as he held off hard-charging Jeffrey Smith. William Gillam, Brandon Elwood, and Kevin Cassaday completed the top 5. Mike Stalnaker, Elwood, Tony Campbell, and first-timer Melvin Fockler won their heats.

Stephen Frankland jumped to the lead from his pole position and never gave it up. Frankland had to beat some good drivers including heat winner Jerry Taylor. Bill Southard finished 3rd over Tom Sheehan and Kyle Moore. Frankland and Taylor certainly entertained the Rent-N-Roll Gladiator fans for a great ending to the night.

We return Friday night for the Mike Peters Open Preliminary Events (Qualifying and Heats for Late Models and Modfieds). For more info please go to www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call us at 352-622-9400.
