Bubba Raceway Park Logo copyJim Rouse,  Ocala, FL – After a wash-out on May 11th, Bubba made the call to re-schedule the race for this up-coming week-end and he’s added an extra division! The NeSmith Crate Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, Bubba Army Hobby Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and now the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks will take to the 3/8 mile for some action. The Bigwheel Race will also be run at Intermission. Don’t miss this big show!
Versailes, Indiana’s Bryan Bernhardt leads Dover, Florida’s “The Repo Man” Jeff Mathews in a tight battle in the Crate Late Models. St.Petersburg, Florida’s rising son, Tyler Clem, is third and could leave as the youngest points leader- and youngest NeSmith sanctioned event winner- with a slip-up by the front two. Lakeland’s Kenny Monohan and Dade City’s Shan Smith round out the top five. Plenty of others will join them as they chase victory in this impressive division.
The age jokes are getting quite old in the Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds. Now aged seventy-two, Zephyrhills, Florida’s Buzzie Reutimann holds a lead over Belleview’s Charlie O’Neill. Behind them is a two-time winner this season and a four-time division champion in Jeff Mathews. Mathews missed the opening race but has made up a huge chunk of points with his victories. Ocala’s Ronnie Soltis sits in fourth with a car that is quick but unreliable. Soltis may have a win in the cards, and the same goes for Bryan Bernhardt. Bernhardt, driving a second Mathews Motorsports car, sits in the top five in all three divisions he has run this season- an incredible feat! It’s wide open and anyone could take the win!
Devin Walker, “The Mayo Missile,” leads fellow teenager Hunter Gustafson by two points in an exciting championship battle. Gustafson, the Howey-In-The-Hills driver, has two wins to Walker’s one. Placed in third is Dunnellon’s Matt Kramer, but just three points behind him is Ocala’s Brian Shea. Shea, the 2011 Thunder Stock champion, has work to do, however, if he’s to hold off Gainesville’s William Edwards in the title fight. New winners and a new champion are on the horizon in the Bubba Army Hobby Stocks!
With eight drivers within one race of each other for the championship, the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks are on it. Tony Campbell, a Mt. Dora native, leads Summerfield’s William Gillam by just two points in a championship just as tight as the Bubba Army Hobby Stocks. In third is Anthony, Florida’s Brandon Elwood who is already a first-time winner in 2013. Placed in fourth is Citra’s James Erickson, but he may skip the race to focus on his Hobby Stock. Brandon Tillander, the Ocala driver, wouldn’t mind that as he constantly improves and chases the front two for a title and a first craeer win.
The Rent-N-Roll Gladiators top three is in a flip-flopped position. Winless challenger Josh Fincher is the points leader over one-time winner Jerry Taylor. In third, coming off of three consecutive wins, is “The British Bulldog” Stephen Frankland who knows he’s chasing history and a championship. Rookie drivers Bill Southard and Tom Sheehan continue to improve and are hoping to jump into Coors Light Winner’s Circle by season’s end.
