March 10, 2012 – Tampa, FL – Night two of the 2012 Season kicked off tonight with five divisions on hand. Over 85 cars were on hand to try and qualify to run their feature events. First up were the Outlaw Fours as they made their debut for the 2012 Season. Nick Hebrank and Kyle Kruse won their heat races early on. On the front row for the feature was Kruse and
Shirlene Hammond. On the green flag it was Hammond taking the early lead with Kruse right behind her. First caution came out with Kyle Worden spinning on lap one. On the restart, Hammond once again took control as they headed into turn one. On lap three it was Jake Hampton spinning in turn two collecting Carl Polk as well. Both cars were not able to continue. Green flag came out once again on lap three but it was Kyle Kruse spinning collecting Nick Hebrank. Both cars were able to continue. After the restart, on lap six, second place Roberto Morfin, Jr. fell off the pace and headed to the infield ending his night. Several more cautions came out, but on the final restart, Hammond was able to hold off Billy Howard to pick up the win. Howard started from the ninth postion. Defending Outlaw Fours Champion, Jesse Brown finished third with Stephen Hohlbaugh and Zack Amundsen rounding out the top five.
Next up were the Limited Late Models. Scotty Williams and John Wilson won their heats early on. Making up the front row of the feature was JR Prather, Jr. and John Wilson. On the original start it was Daniel Woody, Rick Martin and Timothy Odell getting collected ending both Martin and Odell’s night. So on the complete restart Prather led the field to the green flag once again with last year’s defending Champion Williams right on his back bumper. Williams had grabbed the lead on lap two and then Terry Jones had problems bringing out the caution. On the restart, Williams once again showed his muscle as he continued to lead the rest of the feature picking up the win. Scotty went retro as he used a former number with him now
as the 27 and not the 7JR he used last year. Wilson finished second with Prather, Jr., Woody and Thomas Scott rounding out the top five.
Roger Crouse picked up where he left off last week as he won his heat race along with Travis Varnadore winning the other. For the 25 Lap Feature Event, it was Crouse and Varnadore making up the front row. On the green flag start, Varnadore took
command over Crouse for the first six laps. Caution came out as Henry Burnside collected the front stretch wall ending his night. When the race resumed on lap seven, Varnadore continued to hold off Crouse and Phillip Cobb and the two tried to catch Varnadore but was not able to do so. Varanadore went on to win the feature in his brother’s car. Travis thanked Crouse for running him clean throughout the race and said the car was running a little tight and he knew Crouse was there. Finishing in the top five were Crouse, Cobb, Kyle Musselman and Frankie Erksine, Jr.
Street Stocks were next as Dorsey Strickland, Buck Woodhouse and last week’s feature winner Eric Moon won heat races early on. Starting on the front row was Donnie Reed, former track Champion and Roy Woodhouse. When the green flag waved, it was Reed and Woodhouse showing the way into turn one. First caution came out as Jeff Rodgers spun in turn two. Several more cautions came out as the field tried to restart the race, but it was Justan Rodgers and several other cars all getting
collected with Rodgers slowly rolling over bringing out the red flag. Justan was okay but the car was not able to continue. The field was then given instructions for a single file restart on lap three. On lap nine, Jim Baker and Scotty Kay, Jr. tangled in turn four bringing out another caution. On lap thirteen, it was the 13 of Thomas Burnside spinning in turn one bringing out the final caution. On the final green flag, Reed crossed the line first with Thomas Pratt, Roy Woodhouse, Buck Woodhouse and Jim Baker rounding out the top five.
The final event of the night went to the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. Patrick Fiore, Jr, Joshua Comeau and Don R. Quinn won heat races early on. Comeau and Fiore, Jr. made up the front row for the feature event, but on the pace laps, Comeau’s right front broke ending his hopes for a win. That put last week’s feature winner Quinn on the front row.
When the green flag waved, it was Fiore, Jr. on a mission as last week he finished second in the feature to Quinn. Fiore, Jr. jumped out front leading the field and Quinn was right behind him. Several laps later, Quinn had problems and had to take his
car to the infield ending his hopes of two in a row. Fiore, Jr. quickly drove his way through lapped traffic as Johnnie Alexander tried to catch him.
The only caution that came out was on lap thirteen when Richard Humfeld spun in turn three. When the green waved again, Fiore, Jr. showed no mercy as he went on to win the feature. Alexander finished second with John Moore, Jimmy Williams and Troy Dittebrand rounding out the top five.
