BRUNSWICK, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series heads to Golden Isles Speedway this Friday night and Saturday night for Rounds 4 and 5 of the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout Series. The Friday night race will be contested for 50 laps and pay $2,500 to the winner. The Saturday night show will be for 50 laps and pay $3,000-to-win.
It’s all a part of the Annual Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway, which has gone through a major facelift of the facility since the last visit by the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series in November of 2015 for the Showdown On The Coast.
After the first three rounds of the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout Series, Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL leads the point standings with a 50-point advantage over 13-year-old Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series driver Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, FL. Edge has 260 points after one top five finish and a top ten finish in all three races.
Clem has 210 points after competing in all three RockAuto.com Winter Shootout events, and posting a fifth-place finish last Saturday night at his home track, Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL. Clem holds a 14-point advantage over the third-place driver in the point standings, Kyle Bronson of Brandon, FL.
Bronson picked up the win in Round three of the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout last Saturday night at Bubba Raceway Park. In just two races, Bronson has 196 points after the win and a second-place finish in Round 2 last Friday night at Bubba Raceway Park.
The last time Bronson was at Golden Isles Speedway, he was in Victory Lane after winning the Showdown On The Coast for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series last November. Bronson has a two-point spread over the fourth-place driver, William Thomas of Phenix City, AL, who has 194 points. Thomas opened the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout with a win on January 10 at the 25th Annual Icebowl at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
The 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship Runner-Up and Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year Ryan King of Seymour, TN is tied with Josh Richards of Shinnston, WV for fifth in the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout standings with 184 points apiece. Richards won Round 2 last Friday night at Bubba Raceway Park.
Tyler Bare of Rockridge Baths, VA is seventh in the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout standings with 172 points, and former NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Cale Conley of Vienna, WV is eighth with 168 points. Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, VA is ninth with 164 points, and Justin Williams of Concord, VA rounds out the top ten of the standings with 162 points.
Race fans at Golden Isles Speedway this weekend will be greeted with all new facilities that include grandstands, concession stands, rest rooms, tower, and VIP Suites. The track itself remains unchanged, as the 4/10-mile clay oval provides on-the-edge-of-your-seat action for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series cars powered by economical Chevrolet Performance 604 Racing Engines.
The schedule for both Friday and Saturday has the pit gate opening at 12 noon with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 4:30 p.m. with Hot Laps at 5 p.m., and racing to follow.
