CARTERSVILLE, GA – Tennessee National Raceway in Hohenwald, TN has signed on with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series beginning fulltime during the 2014 season, with an option to join in 2013 with sufficient interest from competitors. Tennessee National Raceway will give their Late Model competitors an option to run under NeSmith Chevrolet WRS rules in 2013.
“We are proud to be bringing the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Weekly Racing Series to Tennessee National Raceway in 2014,” Tennessee National Raceway Owner Bill Hibbits said. “We believe in what the series is doing to help race tracks and late model racing and want to be a part of it.”
Hibbits said Tennessee National Raceway wants to give their dirt late model competitors an opportunity to have the time to change over to the economical Chevrolet Performance 604 Crate Engines that power the cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series. However, for the 2013 season, the track will make concessions for those competitors wishing to run by the NeSmith rules.
“We looked hard at doing it in 2013, but after a meeting with the local drivers we felt we needed to give these guys a year to get prepared for the change,” Hibbits said. “We will be NeSmith friendly in 2013 for sure, and any car that is NeSmith legal can come race here by the NeSmith rules with a weight break.”
The track didn’t rule out becoming NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned for the 2013 season that begins on March 25, 2013 and ends on September 29, 2013. A driver’s best 14 finishes will count towards their season point total during the 27-week season.
Drivers will also compete for a Track Point Fund, and a National Point Fund that pays back ten spots and awards the National Champion with a $10,000 prize. Tennessee National Raceway drivers will compete against drivers from other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks across the nation for the National point fund money through a points system once they are sanctioned.
“If we are contacted by enough drivers and can gain enough driver support before April of 2013 we will consider offering the class in 2013, but we will for sure have the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series, late models be our top division in 2014,” Hibbits said. “We hope to also get a touring date on the schedule as well. We are excited and looking forward to our partnership, and working together!”
NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series officials said Tennessee National Raceway joins a growing list of tracks that are seeing the economical and promotional benefits their dirt late model competitors can gain by being involved with the series.
“We’re looking forward to working with the management, the staff, and the competitors of Tennessee National Raceway in the coming years,” NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Director Roby Helm said. “We’re excited about giving their drivers an opportunity to be promoted on a National stage, as well as giving them an economical alternative for engines. The cost of even a limited late model engine is well over $10,000, and the Chevrolet Performance 604 Crate Engine can give them performance and durably for half that cost.”
The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.
These engines are in stock and ready for free next day delivery anywhere in the Southeast from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA. The Chevrolet Performance 604 Crate Engine is on sale for $5,095 and the Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine is on sale for $3,195 at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA.
