Drivers Compete with Two-Time Consecutive Winner JR Heffner for $17,500 Prize

WEST LEBANON, N. Y. – Challenge awaits traveling Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified drivers as they move into the series’ eighth round Thursday, Aug. 16, at Lebanon Valley Speedway and battle for the hefty $17,500 winner’s award.

The past two years the series has invaded the speedway’s high banked, half-mile clay oval, local star JR Heffner piloted his #74 A. Colarusso/Bicknell Chassis/Bedell horsepower machine to beat out the likes of Brett Hearn, also a Lebanon Valley regular, current two-time defending series champion Matt Sheppard, and four-time series champion Danny Johnson.

Although the father of four from Pittsford, Mass., rarely travels with the series, Heffner made winning a series event look easy, leading all 100 laps at last year’s Lebanon Valley Super DIRTcar Series event.

“I’m honored to win the last two years in a row. I look forward to the race,” Heffner said. “Lebanon is a very tough track and then you bring the Billy Deckers and the Matt Sheppards there – it’s really going to be tough competition among the guys who are already tough competition.”

Despite these former successes and a good 2012 season putting him fourth in points at Lebanon Valley, Heffner said he cannot predict a third consecutive victory at the “Mr. DIRT Track U.S.A” 100 lapper.

“I can promise I will give i120 percent to make it happen, but given the competition and circumstances, I can never predict that happening,” Heffner said. “The only thing we can do is bring our A game and see where the cards fall.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. for Thursday’s event, which is presented by Gendron’s Truck Center and Hoosier and includes a Budget Sportsman show.
