August 6, 2011 – It looked for certain that Mother Nature would be the winner tonight, but the rains held off and racing was in full force here at The Clay By The Bay. Over 100 cars showed up tonight from all over that state of Florida to race at East Bay Raceway Park.
First feature to run were the Street Stocks. Matthew Grissom and Jeff Rodgers started on the front row. At the drop of the green flag, Rodgers jumped out to the early lead. But a caution came out on Lap one as Bob Flemming came to rest in Turn one. On the restart is was Rodgers once again taking over the top spot, but it was Grissom and Jarod Gay battling side by side for several laps. Caution came out once again on Lap eight. On the restart, Rodgers once again held the lead, but on lap ten, signs of smoke started coming from Rodgers as laps began to wind down. Caution came out with two laps to go and when the green flag waived Rodgers, Grissom and Gay were all looking to pick up the win. The white flag waived and the three were battling and Rodgers had mechanical issues and Jarod Gay seized the opportunity to pass him and pick up his second win of the year. J.R. Welden picked up second while David Barwick, II, Jeff Rodgers and Derek Gray rounded out your top five. Rodgers and Grissom picked up the heat wins earlier on.
Next on deck were the Outlaw Fours. Jesse Brown and current points leader, Nick Hebrank started up front. From the drop of the green flag, Jesse Brown seemed to have it under control and cruised to his third feature win of the season. Stephen Hohlbaugh, Nick Hebrank, Megan Rae Meyer and Kyle Worden were your top five. Hebrank also picked up the heat win.
Next up were the Daytona Area Antique Racing Assoc. They came from all over Florida to race. Uncaged Sprints, V-8 Mods, Caged Sprints and Stock cars were in full effect. Winning the Uncaged Sprints Feature event went to William Rynd. Steve Parris picked up the V-8 mods Feature win. In the Caged Sprints, 20 year old Matthew Jarrett bested the field. The final class was the Stock class and the familiar 7c of Cush Revette, Jr. once again was in Victory Lane. I took my very first laps on this track, Cush, Jr. stated. This race was also for my dad who was able to race in the heat race.
The Q Auto & Injury’s Attorneys Limited Lated Models made their way on the track for the 15 lap feature event. JR Prather and Scotty Williams lined up on the front row and as the green flag dropped, Williams took the early lead. Daniel Woody, JR Prather, and Forrest Gough battled for several laps. When it was all done, Scotty Williams picked up another feature win. Shane Koperda, JR Prather, Jr., Jason Pope and Ricky Land rounded out the top five. Willams and Forrest Gough picked up the heat wins earlier on and Scotty Williams also won two tires courtesy of the class sponsor.
It was a pair of George’s on the front row for the start of the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. George Ingram on the pole and George Handy on the outside front row. On the start, George Ingram grabbed the early lead. After several laps, Johnnie Alexander took the top spot away, but it was Troy Dittebrand who started sixth and Kayla Jones who started eight made their way up to challenge Alexander for the lead. With several laps to go, Jones made her way past Dittebrand to capture second and was battling Alexander for the win. But as the checkered flag dropped, it was Alexander picking up the win with Jones second, Dittebrand third, Jason Burnside fourth and George Ingram rounding out your top five. Dittebrand, Thomas Burnside and Don R. Quinn picked up the heat wins.
Next, the Dirt Daubers. It was mayhem as the drivers got the green flag with the drivers going in the opposite direction tonight. That gave the advantage to Randy Tyler as he picked up the lead, but, Tyler spun on the backstretch handing the lead to the hard charging Janien Dixon as she started from the rear of the field. Janien quickly made her way around the track lap after lap avoiding spinning cars and cars stopped in the turns trying to get turned around. With one lap to go, Brett Phillips made a last effort to get by her as he drove hard into the turn and just missing getting the feature win by just a few feet as Dixon again found her way to Victory Lane. Janien won last week’s 60 lap Enduro feature. Dirt Daubers only run 12 laps, so Janien went five times the distance last week and went the full distance tonight as she picked up her third feature win of the season. Brett Phillips finished second in his new ride in which he built in just four days after he blew a motor last week in the Enduro race. DB Hogwaller finished third, Henry Wylee fourth and Bill Bolle rounded out the top five.
