IMG_2742-3Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL- The Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators put on a fantastic show to wrap up September at Bubba Raceway Park.
Sean Monoghan opened up the night with the Hobby Stock feature lead, but a determined Devin Walker stole it away on a lap four miscue by Monoghan. As Mike Stalnaker and Monoghan made it three wide with Walker for the lead, Wally Schneider spun in turn four and brought out the yellow on lap seven. Stalnaker would slow on lap eight and contact with Walker forced both into the pits and left Hunter Gustafson- who started from the tail- with the lead over Monoghan and Joey Forsyth. Monoghan would slow on lap ten as Walker found himself fifth at the time. Gustafson would hold on for the win over Forsyth (a career best), a rebounding Devin Walker, Heath Walker, and Jon Layerd.
The Limited Late Models saw Dale Pope jump to the early lead over Tyler Clem, Richard Ferry, and Nevin Gainey as the rest of the pack watched their cars get smaller and smaller. Just past halfway, Ferry retired, Gainey slowed, and Pope made contact with Chuck Jackson who was at the tail of the lead lap. Removing Gainey (the caution causer) and Ferry, the order with seven to go was Pope, Clem, and Bill Adkins. Gainey rejoined at the tail of the lead lap. The downforce issue would cost Pope as Clem took to the lowside and pulled away after the restart. Clem would cut a tire with two to go and a resilient effort would fall short. nevin Gainey would win over Dale Pope, Bill Adkins, Tyler Clem, and Kevin Mills.
The Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds took off with Dalton Lanich rocketing to the lead. Garret Stewart would bring out the first caution on lap four when his #67 slowed in turn two. Rich Pratt jumped from row two to steal Lanich’s lead and Ronnie Chance tried the same on Lanich for second. Ronnie Chance rolled the dice and stole the lead on lap nine, just for Pratt to have it by a nose on lap ten. Chance made that short lived and had the point back on lap eleven. Hunter Gustafson, the birthday boy in his Modified feature debut, would bunch the field back up with seven laps left; Chance, Pratt, Lanich, Roger Crouse, and Jeff Mathews would restart as the top five. Pratt and Lanich began to duel and let Chance pull away. Chance held on for his first win at Bubba Raceway Park with Lanich, Pratt, Crouse, and Hunter Gustafson the top five.
The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks opened up with Randy Strehle barrel-rolling and eventually landing on the wall. Strehle climbed out under his own power and sat in the stands to cheer on his team-mate Daniel Keene. A couple of spins kept the field tight before Keene and Jonathan Appleby spun from the top three. Melvin Fockler would lead until the halfway mark when Brandon Elwood took over the lead and held it to the checkered flag. Fockler would slip to fourth as Jimbo Warden took home second and Jason Gamble finished third and won the Dirts 4 Racing Hard Charger Award. Buddy Pope completed the top five.
The Rent-N-Roll Gladiators had no medium as four of the seven drivers in the feature had feature wins and two others were making their first ever start at Bubba Raceway Park. Charlie Clay, one of the rookies, led the opening few laps before Stephen Frankland got by him. Clay would eventually get back to the point and lead lap ten, but Frankie would grab the lead and never look back, even through the caution for Emily Conley that nearly collected him. Frankland picked up his tenth win of the year (a new division track record) with Clay, Brandon Haseleu, Jerry taylor, and “Super” Dave Ladrie the top five.
Next week the Limited Sprints are back in action as well as the Limited Late Models. Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and TQ Late Models will join them. For more info, please visit www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call us at 352-622-9400.
