Bulls Gap, TN-June 3, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series and Volunteer Speedway track promoters Joe and Phyllis Loven would like to announce the date that the Scott Sexton Memorial event, which was halted by rain after 17 laps were completed, will be finished. The event will be completed on Friday evening June 14.
“All parties involved felt it was in the best interest of the race teams and race fans to get this event completed as soon as possible and with the SAS tour in action on Saturday June 15 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, everyone felt this would be the best thing to do in this situation, so as to get the event completed and race teams paid”, stated Southern All Star Racing Series Race Director Chris Tilley. “By doing this, race fans and race teams don’t have to wait a long time and have to try to keep up with tickets and pit passes and we can get this event completed”, added Tilley.
This event at Volunteer Speedway will see a hot lap session for the SAS Super Late Models and after other preliminary activities, the event will be restarted with 17 laps complete and 35 laps remaining in the 52 lap, $5,200 to win Scott Sexton Memorial event with a Delaware double-file restart per Southern All Star Racing Series rules. Of note, the field for remainder of the event has been set and locked in and NO new entries will be accepted, as the race will restart with 17 laps already finished, with 35 laps remaining.
Also for this event, the track has put together a special for Steel Head/Crate Late Models that will be 30 laps in distance and pay $2,000 to win and $150 to start, along with a 20 lap feature event for the Modified Hobby division, with both divisions in a full program of time trials and feature event competition. In regards to the addition of a third Southern All Star Racing Series event at Volunteer Speedway as had been previously mentioned in an earlier release, series and track officials will announce that once a suitable date can be reached and agreed upon by Volunteer Speedway and the Southern All Star Racing Series. The Southern All Star Racing Series is already scheduled to be back at Volunteer Speedway on August 3 for the Dewey “Red” Ledford Memorial event.
Race fans and race teams that are holding a general admission ticket or pit pass from the June 1 weather postponed event must present them at the track on June 14 to be allowed access to the track or that individual(s) will have to pay again to enter the track. Also, if a Super Late Model driver brings a car to compete in the Steel Head/Crate Late Model event, they will be required to purchase another pit pass for the evening.
Steel Head/Crate Late Model A-Main Payout at Volunteer Speedway June 14 (30 laps/$2,000 to win): 1st- $2,000, 2nd- $1,000, 3rd- $700; 4th- $550; 5th- $450; 6th- $425; 7th- $400; 8th- $350; 9th- $325; 10th- $300; 11th- $275; 12th- $250; 13th- $225; 14th- $200; 15th- $175; 16th through 24th- $150 to start
Activities for the completion Southern All Star Racing Series event at Volunteer Speedway on Friday June 14 will see pit gates open at 4:00 p.m, with the general admission area opening at 6:00 p.m. Driver registration and car inspection is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 7:15 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at7:30 p.m., followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing. All times listed are Eastern Daylight Time. For those that were not in attendance at the June 1 event that was weathered out, ticket prices on Friday June 14 in the general admission area is $20 for adults, children ages 11 to 15 is $5, children ages 10 and under are free, and a pit pass will be $35, the same as they were back on June 1.
