Ocala, FL – RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators went all out and some had reasons bigger than you would think.
Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models started the night off with a bang. Accidents started early when Steve Shead found himself going around in turn 1 as David Showers, Jr. and Paul Shead made contact that would end Paul’s night. Phil Cobb would lead after 1 in a tight battle with David Showers who would steal it from him on lap 3. Caution would fly moments later as Ricky Land spun in turn 4 and Tyler Clem, making just his 2nd start, spun to avoid. Tyler would have more troubles on lap 6 when the #14 would have the steering lock up on him. Showers still led with JO Nobles and Cobb on his rear. The caution was extended when Showers, Jr. broke and had to be towed off. Nobles stole the lead on the restart as Forrest Gough and Showers chased him down again. Ricky Land again would spin on lap 10 and collected Matt Johnson and Cheyanne Cox to bring out the night‘s 4th caution. Land would retire as would Johnson. Nobles would lead Showers and Cobb with 10 to go. Nobles would take his 6th win of the year and his 100th career win overall over Showers, Cobb, Eddie Gainey, and Gough.
Jonathan Appleby would steal the early lead in the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks. On lap 3 John Thorpe would spin with a flat leaving Appleby to fend off Brian Mullins and Jason Gamble. On lap 8 Jimmy Holley took a scary ride in his Poor Boys Tires 2H with a barrel roll. He would be okay but a fire occurred after they rolled the 2H back over. The top 3 would be the same as the last restart. Melvin Fockler would lose the right rear on lap 9 as the front runners stayed the same for the restart. The race went green for the final 11 as Appleby held them off for his 3rd consecutive win. Mullins was, again, P2. Brandon Elwood would take a big 3rd place finish, “Batman” Jeff Baer would take a season-best 4th, and James Sullivan, III would round out a strong top 5.
RaceCar Engineering Late Model action slowed early when Tommy Prince and Win Ingersoll spun in turn 1. The race could never start as 3 cautions came out before a green flag lap was even thought about. Caution would fly on lap 2 as “Cheddar” Christian Augspurger spun out of turn 4 while fighting for the lead. He would leave Bryan Bernhardt, Bo Allen, and Mark Whitener to fight for it up front. Seconds later Dalton Meyers and Win Ingersoll made heavy contact on the backstretch bringing out a red flag for clean-up. Thankfully both were okay and Meyers would actually drive the #31 to the infield. Allen would steal the lead on lap 3 as Jason Fitzgerald jumped Whitener for 3rd. Caution would fly on lap 11 when Bo Allen blew the 71 up in a heartbreaker. “Fitz” would inherit the lead with Bernhardt and Whitener behind. “Cadillac” Bobby Richardson spun in turn 2 to bring a lap 13 yellow out while “Cheddar” and Kenny Monohan made contact in turn 4- the top 3 were still the same. Jason Fitzgerald would hold on to win over fellow Middleberg driver Mark Whitener. Richard Ferry, Bernhardt, and Phil Cobb would complete the top 5.
Hobby Stocks watched Mike Stalnaker and Trevor Gamble fight for the lead over the first 4 laps before RJ Glazer and Scott Haas had troubles in turn 4. Gamble would shoot for the lead in turn 3 but would spin while “Ragin” Rodney Wright would take evasive action and spin as well. Gamble would restart outside the top 10 and be 5th after 1 lap. Wright would steal the lead on the restart while Gamble would spin again on lap 8. On lap 10 Nevin Gainey’s right front would blow and he accidentally spun Scott Haas as it happened. Wright, Stalnaker, and Marty Smith would restart 1-2-3. “Ragin” Rodney would take the win. Gamble, Stalnaker, Marty Smith, and Scott Haas would complete the top 5.
A 15-lap Rent-N-Roll Gladiator feature would top the night off. Tony LaPorta would jump from 6th to 1st on lap 1. On lap 11 Jordan McMillon would lose the right rear setting up LaPorta, Billy Holmes, and Steve Johnson. LaPorta would win over Holmes, Johnson, Bobby Graham, and Jerry Taylor. Holmes would be found illegal in tech which would move all others up and Ken Macleod into 5th place.
