(TOLEDO, Ohio) – Just like his driver Chris Buescher heads up the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards point standings, crew chief Gary Roulo of Roulo Brothers Racing leads the Cometic Crew Chief of the Year standings with only three races left this season.
Through 17 races, the man who oversees the No. 17 Ford has earned 5665 points in the crew chief standings, 100 more than current runner-up Paul Andrews, crew chief for Alex Bowman and the No. 22 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge.
The Cometic Crew Chief of the Year will receive $3000 at year’s end; the award tabulates points from qualifying and race action. The crew chief of the fastest-qualifying car earns 200 points, with descending positions earning five fewer points per position. The same scoring system is in place for race finishes. Competing crew chiefs must register at the beginning of the season and carry the decal of Cometic Gasket, Inc. on the car to be eligible to score. A maximum of 400 points is possible in each event weekend.
Roulo has earned the $250 Cometic Crew Chief of the Race distinction in three races this year, scoring 390 points in Buescher’s win at Toledo Speedway in May, 360 in another top-five run at New Jersey Motorsports Park in July, and 365 in Buescher’s win at Berlin Raceway in August.
Andrews has won the top race honors six times this season. Jeriod Prince (No. 44 ThorSport Racing Toyota) is third in the standings, 295 points behind, and has won the race award twice.
Kevin Reed (No. 58 CGH Motorsports Chevrolet) is currently fourth in the standings, just ahead of Jon Wolfe (No. 16 Coulter Motorsports Chevrolet).
Outside of Roulo, Andrews, and Prince, other race award winners include Billy Venturini (three), Wolfe (two), and Andrew Charlson.
Cometic Gasket, Inc., a Concord, Ohio company, creates the Official Gasket of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards and also contributes $3500 to the year-end championship point fund.
The ARCA Racing Series will travel to the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care at Indiana’s Salem Speedway on Saturday, September 15.
Practice for the year’s second race at Salem will take place over two sessions, from 12:30-1:15 p.m. and 1:45-2:30 p.m. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell is scheduled for 4 p.m., and a driver autograph session will be open to all fans from 4:45-5:15 p.m. The 200-lap, 111-mile race will start at 7:15 p.m.
