HUNTSVILLE, AL –Randy Weaver wanted a third win at Talladega this year and he did it Saturday night as he beat Brandon Kinzer, Riley Hickman and the rain to capture his third win in a row at TST and pad his points lead for the 2012 season a third win at Talladega. The win was worth another $3,500 to Weaver.
Weaver set fat time in VP Race Fuels qualifying as he turned a lap of 14.713 seconds on a cool and damp night with Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, GA., on the outside pole, Kinzer, Hickman and Todd Morrow rounded out the top five in qualifying.
At the drop of the green flag Ridley took the lead and moved ahead of Weaver until Weaver pulled along side Ridley on lap 5, and the two raced side by side with Weaver taking over on lap 7. The only caution would come out on lap 9 as the cars of Skip Freeman and Adam Martin brought out the only caution of the night in the 40 lap event.
Weaver then brought the field around foe the restart and put on a show as he pulled ahead of Ridley, who now in battle with riley Hickman for the second spot. Hickman got the second spot from Ridley but could never get through the lapped traffic as well as Weaver and could never gain ground him for the remainder of the race.
Weaver was on cruise control as he worked the lapped traffic on the top and the bottom of the race track, but behind him the battle was on as Kinzer was working his way to the front with less than 10 laps to go he got by Hickman for the second spot and set his sights on Weaver, but Kinzer ran out of laps and Weaver went on to take this third win in a row with Kinzer coming home in second spot just .004 behind the top spot, Hickman brought home third, Jason Hiett who started 14th came in fourth and Dingus Griffin who started 12th came home in fifth.
The remaining top ten finishers were Aaron Ridley sixth, Tim Busha seventh, Jason Wilson eighth, Tim Roszell ninth and Shan Smith tenth.
