OCALA, FL- The historic Ocala Speedway has been sold to nationally syndicated radio personality Bubba Clem, also known as Bubba The Love Sponge, and will officially become Bubba Raceway Park after this weekend’s scheduled Monster Jam Summer Tour. The sale was officially announced during the 8 o’clock hour on Bubba’s Friday morning broadcast.
Effective after Sunday afternoon’s scheduled Monster Truck Show, the speedway will close in order for the transition to the new ownership to take place. Bubba Raceway Park will have a grand reopening on Friday, May 13th, featuring a $5000 to win late model race to be known as the “Bubba Army Open” plus other features to be announced later. A new website, www.BubbaRacewayPark.com, should be up and running within days, and will have an updated schedule of events, plus further information as to changes coming to Florida’s oldest speedway.
And while many things will change, some will not. The same great racing series that have visited the speedway in recent years will be back, including those that have made the February Winternationals events so popular for Florida race fans. In addition, Bubba Clem has announced that he plans to keep the speedway staff intact as he takes over the operations there.
Further announcements about upcoming events and promotions will be coming soon as the transition to Bubba Raceway Park takes place. Mike Peters and Angie Clifton wish to thank all of the racers and fans who have supported the speedway during their tenure as owners, and who have helped make it into a nationally recognized facility. They also encourage everyone to support the new owner and watch for many exciting changes to come. Mike Peters will remain on call in an advisory role as the new team takes over the track.
