Lake City Fl., Adam Bedenbaugh of Lake City took the checkers in the UDLMCS Battle At The Border Saturday night at North Florida Speedway. Also capturing wins were Jody Turner In Sportsman, Chris Shea in Pure Stock, Shane Taylor in Limited Modifieds and Jon Brown in Box Stock.

The first feature of the evening was the Sportsman Division which saw Heath Walker and Jody Turner bring the field to green. An opening lap incident in turn one would slow the early action and force a complete restart. Once the race was able to resume Turner would work his way to the front and most of the action was behind him. Wayne O’Neal would apply the pressure from second but Turner survived several restarts to hold on for his first victory of the 2011 season. O’Neal and Brandon Catto would follow the 2010 Sportsman champion to the line after a last ditch effort by Kevin Davis to claim third resulted in Davis spinning in turn four coming to the checkered flag.

Pure Stock action shaped up to be an entertaining affair as the action started in the heat races with Chip Owen and Shane Taylor making contact in a white flag battle for the heat race win. Taylor would need a tow to get back to the pit area but a community effort in the pit area would allow Shane to make the repairs needed to answer the bell for the feature. Andy Olson and John Roberts comprised the front row for the feature and Roberts would take control in the early going. Jerry Fortner would soon move to second and stalk the race leader. Fortner found the break he was looking for and got by Roberts in lapped traffic. Not to be denied Roberts looked to return the favor and seized the opportunity on a late race restart. Roberts hard work fell by the wayside as the left rear tire decided to go in a direction of its own as he worked through the final turn coming to the checkered flag. This set up a drag race to the finish as Chris Shea of Ocala would move from fifth to edge Fortner at the line for his first career victory.

In Limited Mod action Shane Taylor would avenge his frustration in the Pure Stocks to claim a hard fought battle over 2010 champion Paul Sizemore Jr. Duane Paul Jr. would pace the early going but as he fought to hold off Sizemore Taylor would take advantage and move to a lead he would not relinquish. Shaw Taylor, Adam Higginbotham and Duane Paul Jr. would round out the top five.

The main event of the night had fast time qualifier Kyle Van Sickle and Adam Bedenbaugh pacing the field to green. An opening lap skirmish in the first turn would see the field realign for a complete restart. As the front row starters fought hard for the lead Mark Whitener and Johnny Collins made contact in turn two which would send Collins spinning and Whitener to the rear of the field. Meanwhile up front Bedenbaugh wrestled the lead away from Van Sickle and started to put distance between himself and the rest of the field. For the second week in a row Johnny Collins would give chase to Bedenbaugh but the race leader would continue to flex his muscle on several restarts. The red flag would appear on lap 34 as Chuck Chitty and Kyle Van Sickle would split a lapped car in their torrid battle for third. Contact with the lapped car would send Chitty up and over the turn three wall ending his strong run for the night. After a lengthy delay Bedenbaugh would fend off Collins one last time and pull away for his first UDLMCS victory worth $3000.

In Box Stock action new comer Jon Brown would start on the outside of row one with Daryl Larson to his inside. Brown wasted no time in his first start on dirt to take command of the race. Soon Kevin Underwood would move his Saturn to second and the pair circled the track side by side swapping the lead back and forth. Brown would survive the battle and make his first start on dirt a successful one as he brought home the win over Underwood and Baltimore Bill Bollier.

NFS would like to thank Burkins Chevrolet of Macclenny for donating the kids bicycles for the intermission give away that saw a lucky boy and girl head home from the races with an unexpected new set of wheels. Next Saturday Open Wheel Modifieds return with the Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Late Models and Box Stocks. April 2nd racing action is scheduled to start at 7:00 P.M.
