The Florida Legend Car Tour made its fourth visit of the year to Citrus County Speedway in Inverness, FL and it was 13-year-old “No Brake” Jake Perkins victorious for the third time at the tricky speedplant.
Perkins started off what would be a perfect evening by setting quick time at
15.518 seconds to earn the pole for the 25 lap feature event. Mason Ketterman was second quick at 15.740, just a tick of the watch faster than Devin McLeod’s 15.741 lap. Kory Abbott, who made it to the track just a few minutes before time trials after finishing his afternoon show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios where he is a stunt driver, hit the track with no practice laps and was still fourth quick at 15.760 while Dave Gleason timed in fifth at 15.779. Leroy Moore broke a rear suspension part and did not qualify, but with several teams assisting in repairs, got his machine ready for the 25 lap feature.
The only incident of the main event actually took place before it started. Abbott slowed on the back stretch to make an adjustment to his gear and was hit by Zach Napoleon. The damage to Napoleon’s car required a tow from the race track while Abbott continued with damage to the back of his racer that was not seroius enough to cause any major problems.
Perkins jumped to the lead from the pole in his Perkins Dentistry – Caylor & Rosario Oral Surgery – Keller Williams Cornerstone Realty sponsored sedan and began to pull way from second place Ketterman. Abbott worked his way by McLeod for third then passed Ketterman for second on lap nine. Abbott quickly reeled in Perkins and was able to get a fender alongside the leader on several occasions but could never muster the speed needed to make a pass. The race ran all 25 circuits without a yellow flag and Perkins grabbed his third win in four starts at Citrus this year. Abbott came home second in the 5-R Truck & Trailer Special followed by Ketterman, McLeod and Gleason.
Dakota Baggette was sixth with Seth Adams, Moore, Corey White and Danielle Stratton completing the top ten.
In Bandolero action, 12-year-old Daniel Conlin, Jr. won both the heat and feature race over 44-year-old Mark Bibeau. Jake Hunter had a nasty looking crash in the heat race hitting the turn four dirt barrier that surrounds the light pole. Hunter was OK but was unable to start the feature race.
