CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 21 of the 27-Week 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will see a tightly packed group of drivers battling for the $10,000 Championship and the Top 10 points fund-paying positions in 11 races in five different states. The top six drivers in the points chase are separated by just ten points.
Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS added an event this week for Friday night. Malden Speedway in Malden, MO will also host a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 race this Friday night.
Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will highlight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 Saturday night competition with a $1,000-to-win I-20 Challenge race. The I-20 Challenge Races are run in conjunction with Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.
Also in action this Saturday night are Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA, Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will be in action this Sunday night with NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 competition.
Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 794 points and will be trying to net, or replace the lowest weekly point total of his best 14, which is a 48, with either a win or a second-place finish in an event with eight or more cars competing.
Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is in the second spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 791 points. Washington has a WPA of 49.36 and will also be trying to net on a 48. Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL is third with 790 points, a WPA of 49.29, and will be trying to net on a 47.
Duke Palasini of Leland, MS is fourth with 788 points, a WPA of 49.14, and will be trying to net on a 47. Palasini knows firsthand how important a single point is in the series because he lost the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Championship by one point.
Ryan King of Seymour, TN is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 786 points. King has a WPA of 49 and will be trying to net on a 48. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is sixth with 784 points, has a WPA of 48.86, and he will be trying to net on a 48.
Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series championship battle with 773 points. Arnold, who has a WPA of 48.07, can net as many as nine points with a 50-point win, as he will be trying to net on a 41. Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is eighth with 771 points. He has a WPA of 47.93 and will be trying to net on a 46.
Bret Holmes of Munford, AL moved up to the ninth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase last week with his second win of the season at Talladega Short Track. The 14-year-old second-generation driver has 762 points, a WPA of 47.29, and will be looking to net on a 44.
Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 753 points. Harrison has a WPA of 46.64 and will be trying to net on a 42. Drivers in the 11th through 20th spots in the points chase still have a good opportunity to race their way into the Top 10 in the final seven weeks of the season.
There are also several drivers still outside the Top 20 of the standings that have high enough WPAs that they too can earn a spot at the banquet table to collect a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Top 10 point fund check.
Some of the drivers to keep an eye on in the coming weeks to challenge for NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Top 10 spots based on their high WPAs and the potential to earn more Bonus Points are Roger Witt of Batesville, AR, Robby Moore of Brosley, MO, Joey Thomas of Seale, AL, Kyle Berry of Portageville, MO, Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL, Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL, two-time West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS, and Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN.
Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.
When a driver reaches the 14-week point in their season, they begin netting points by attempting to replace the lowest weekly point total in their 14-week total with a higher one. The points system for fields of eight or more cars is 50 points to win and one point less per position back to tenth. Drivers that finish tenth on back receive 41 points.
The points system for fields with less than eight cars pays 40 points to win, and one point less per position back through the seventh spot. Drivers that attempt to compete, but don’t start the main event receive 25 points. Drivers can compete in as many events as they can each week, but only their highest event point total counts for that week.
The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications.
