FMSA Feature Winner Morgan Blanchard

Lake City Fl. The always exciting Florida Mini Sprint Association traveled to NFS and didn’t disappoint with a wild ending to their feature that had fans shaking their heads in disbelief. Kevin Davis made his second trip to victory lane in Sportsman action with Adam Bedenbaugh, Nevin Gainey and Derek Suits also collecting wins.

Sportsman were the first division to take to the speedway for their feature event with Jody Turner and Dave Ponton on the front row. Turner would get the early advantage but the caution would appear with one lap down for a spin by Kevin Davis. When the green flag reappeared Jamie Dayhaw would challenge Ponton for second and Ponton would spin collecting Kevin Mills and Wayne O’Neal. The night would be over for Mills but O’Neal would continue with some damage to the right side of his car. On the restart the field could not get past lap number two as Tony Jordan sideswiped the backstretch wall. When racing did resume Dayhaw put the pressure on Turner for the lead and Davis would soon make his way to third when caution flew again on lap nine. When the green flag waved again Davis would overtake Dayhaw for second and soon put Turner behind him to complete his recovery from his first lap spin and race home to his second win of 2011. Robby Stevens would pass Turner for second in the closing laps but time would run out for any chance to challenge Davis for the win.

The Florida Mini Sprint Association would be next up and and the first lap would feature a three wide battle for the early lead. Eddie Moss Jr. would emerge as the race leader and start to distance himself from the pack. Moss would provide one of first anxious moments in the race when he spun in turn two forcing the field to take evasive action. Justin Kolves would inherit the lead and he would have the red hot David Pleaugh on his tail looking for his fourth consecutive win. Kolves was up to the challenge and was able to negotiate lapped traffic and keep his grip on the top spot. But Kolves would see his hopes dashed in an instant when contact with a lapped car would end his quest for victory with three laps left. Pleaugh and third place runner Chris Pacetti also would be victims in the melee and Morgan Blanchard would see his hopes of a career first victory get a serious boost as he was now the race leader. Blanchard would still have work to do as he would have to fend off a last lap challenge from Rae Lynne Moss before he could celebrate his first win. Eddie Moss Jr. would rally from his spin to complete a Moss Racing sweep of the first three positions.

Richard Ferry and Travis Saunders led the Late Model field to green with Ferry being scored as the leader of lap one. Lap two would see Adam Bedenbaugh work his way to the inside of Ferry down the backstretch and the lead would be his. From there Bedenbaugh showed his competition a familiar sight that being the back of his car. Ferry would chase Bedenbaugh the rest of the way and even close the gap in the closing laps but would have to settle for second when everything was settled. Chuck Cumby would round out the top three.

TQ Late Models would make their second appearance of 2011 and Derek Suits would claim the win over Terry Wright and Katherine Thomas. This division is new to NFS and are scheduled to make four more visits in 2011. These cars have really taken to the speedway and put on some exciting racing. Look for this division to grow in car counts as the season progresses.

The always exciting Pure Stocks would finish up the nights racing. Front row starters Doran Cheney and Shane Taylor would swap the lead in the early going but by lap four Nevin Gainey had worked his way from sixth to first. Taylor would keep Gainey in his sights but he would soon have his hands full when Windal Clark would apply the pressure for the runner up spot. A late caution would set up a one lap dash to the finish and Gainey would cruise home from there as Taylor and Clark were battling for second with Clark prevailing.
