Top Gun Sprints, Scorpion Performance Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Thunderstocks, and Gladiators battled hard with 5 winners all happy to take home the $1000 prize on Night Of A Thousands!
The Hobby Stock feature saw minor incidents cause caution flags including the lap 10 caution when Don Woosley stopped at pit entrance. Trevor Gamble, Rodney Wright, and Mike Stalnaker dominated the first half but Stalnaker’s car began to go away and he fell back a little. The final caution came out for Trey Isgette III when he found himself facing the turn 2 wall. Gamble pulled away to take his first win of the season while Kevin Durden and Tim Gay took advantage of Rodney Wright’s mistake pushing Wright to 4th behind Durden and Gay. Mike Stalnaker completed the top 5.
On lap 2 “The Killer” passed Kent Corbin for the lead just before Larry Mott spun and brought the yellow out. Fast forward to lap 20 when Mike Warren spun the #2 and brought the caution out setting up a 5 lap battle between Kyle Bronson, Jeff Mathews, and Wayne Hammond. Bronson was less than 1 lap away from the win when Dalton Lanich spun out and put the caution out. Bronson didn’t let up and he took the win as Mathews and Hammond completed the podium finishers. Barry Sheffield finished 4th and Scott Mooers took another 5th place finish pushing him to 3rd in the standings.
Matt Kurtz had duct tape numbers. A 5 caution race was quick other than for the red flag after the Jimmy Ballew/Terry Witherspoon flip in turn 4. No one was hurt. Gene Lasker spun on lap 13 leaving Kurtz, Danny Martin, Jr., and Robbie Smith to battle for the win over the final 7 laps. Kurtz held on after an aggressive assault from Martin. Mark Ruel, Jr. was 3rd, Ryan Partin 4th, and Smith finished 5th. Matt Kurtz has a trophy.
Until the lap 7 restart the race had belonged to Chad Scranton, Jason Gamble, and Shane Nichols. But, it all left when Gamble spun and tore the right side of Mike Stalnaker’s 77 off and flattened John Thorpe’s right front. From then until the last restart it was Nichols behind Scranton with Jonathan Appleby the new 3rd place man. On the penultimate restart Nichols was slow but he was given 2nd back when the yellow flew half a lap in. Scranton took an easy win while Appleby, Robert Ray, Gordon Cade (on 6 cylinders), and Brian Mullins completed the top 5 putting both Cheater Racing cars 5th or better.
After a few cautions Harold Lewis passed Ray Hunter for the lead but 2 laps later Hunter took it back through some help from lapped traffic. However, on lap 10 Hunter’s right front flew off and “The Old Fox” Steve Cox took the lead. He would not relinquish it as he beat Jordan McMillon, Harold Lewis, Sammy Dale, and Randy Harless across the line. And, S&S Roofing Team has their drivers 1-2-3 in the standings.
