The Legends brought 10 of their high powered, light weight, lighting fast cars to the green for the Perfect Pest Control of Southwest Florida 40-Lap Feature.
Fans watched as Bandoleros winner Mark Hooven, all the way from Orlando, took the win for a double feature win night. Following Hooven would be Sarasota’s Brady Marshall second, with Ft Myers driver Mike Verhaagh third. Fourth went to pole-sitter Mike Fazio after battling back from an early spin. Settling for fifth was Port S Lucie resident, Carl Haag.
Bandoleros got the action started early, and the winner of the event would be Mark Hooven, followed by brother Shawn Hooven, but it was a side-by-side dual that entertained the crowed as the lead swapped 5 times in the 12-lap event, with Mark besting Shawn with just two laps left to go for the win.
Next up were the Fab-4s as these rookie drivers continued their learning curve. Matt Fewox of Lehigh Acres won his third race of this young season, meaning he will have to move up and out of the class. Second would go to Cape Coral beauty Crystal Love, with Linda Badali taking third in Tech, when Jarrett Reynolds was DQ’ed. Moving up to forth would be 12 year old Logan Allen in one of his very first races, leaving Kyle Rice in fifth.
TQ Midgets were set to go 25-laps, but lap-5 would see a hard charging Jack Duffy make contact with Riverview’s Jay Stutz on the back stretch. Duffy was sent air-borne in a flat spin, as Stutz lost his front right wheel. Both could not continue, but the drivers were OK. The winner would be Sarasota’s Ted Durfee, followed by Punta Gorda’s Mike Belusar second. Third went to Jamie Barnum all the way down from Brooksville, with Geoff Styner of Cape Coral finishing fourth and Chris Gimmler from Palm Beach Gardens fifth.
Limited Late Models were set for 50-Laps of green flag action, and ACTION is what the high-powered cars delivered. At at one point, Ross Chastain got bumped from the rear by veteran Steve Gill coming out of turn-2. Chastain tried to keep the car off the wall and made contact with Gill trying to under him toward turn-3. The end result was Gill getting collected by the infield light pole and bending the chassis. Gil would later return to the track, just long enough to crash Chastain into the turn-4 wall ending Chastain and Gill’s nights for good.
Coming across the state from Plantation , Florida , David Weaver lead from the start to finish to win the 50-Lap event, but with 5-laps left to go, Weaver dodged a self-inflicted bullet, as he nearly collected the wall trying to wipe the sweet from his eyes. His 8-car length advantage was down to one, in the wipe of his eyes and second place finisher Phil Morrison, smelled blood. But, it was not to be as Weaver saved the car from the infield grass just in time to keep Morrison behind him. Third went to young Dylan Bigley from Naples , with pole starter Stephen Nasse of Pinellas Park fourth and Sarasota’s Gregory Krom surviving for fifth.
Road Warriors again brought 14 cars to the track, but heat race action killed the #10 of Jason Miller and the #7 of Blaine Baer, leaving 12 to do battle for the feature. Logan Leonard took the win. Second went to Randy Kile, with Chris Loney getting third, Rick Reed going fourth and Chris Scott fifth.
Pro-4s were up last on the evening and the #63 “Jerk Nation” car dominated for the second time on the evening, with Stuart Vandevender taking the win. Second would go to Ryan Collver, followed by Dylan Bigley third, Phillip Ellis, Jr. fourth and Wally Smith hanging on for the final top-5 spot on the night.
