Tampa, FL – It looked as though Mother Nature would spoil tonight’s races here at East Bay Raceway Park, but the rain held off as Late Models, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, V8 Warriors, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and the Ladies’ Powder Puff races went off without a hitch.
First feature of the night were the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks. Winning their heats were Buck Woodhouse and William Burnside. Woodhouse would find himself on the outside front row and on the pole was Mike Wilson. Wilson would lead the first four laps until Woodhouse was able to get around Wilson before the first caution came out for William Edwards spinning in turn two facing the wrong way. Woodhouse would continue to lead the way until Edwards brought out the second caution stopping in turn one ending his night as he took his car to the pits. On the final restart on lap eight Woodhouse found the Burnside brother’s William and Thomas trying to take over the lead but it was Woodhouse taking the checkered flag back in his regular ride as his brother Roy was gracious enough to lend Buck his car for most of the season. Rounding out the top five were Thomas Burnside, Jarod Gay, William Burnside and Brian Morgan.
Next up were the Late Models as Shan Smith and Keith Nosbisch won their heats earlier on. For the feature it would be Steve Miller and Dave Schmauss making up the front row. Schmauss would take the lead early until Sheryl Cochran spun in turn turn bringing out the first caution on lap one. When the green waved Schmauss had the lead with Josh Peacock and Travis Varnadore trailing him until Keith Nosbisch would take over the lead on lap two. Only a few cautions came out throughout the race but on lap thirteen it was Shan Smith after running in the top five would slow bringing out the caution and headed into the pits ending his night. The final green waved as Nosbisch went on to win his sixth feature in just seven starts in the 2013 Season. Rounding out the top five would be Dave Schmauss, Josh Peacock, Steve Miller and Wallace Peacock.
The next feature would be the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. Winning their heats were George Handy and Kayla Jones. For the feature it would be Patrick Fiore, Sr. and Brett Calonge making up the front row for the feature. Fiore, Sr. would lead the first lap but by only a half a car length over John Moore. Jimmy Baker found his way up to the top spot as he had gotten by Fiore, Sr. and Moore by lap four and would not surrender as he went on to win his third feature of the 2013 Season. Rounding out the top five were George Handy, Patrick Fiore, Sr., John Moore and Brett Calonge.
Up next was the V8 Warriors. Winning their heats were Raymond Vann and Marco Reyes. Making up the front row of the feature were Brett Phillips and Don Foligno. Foligno would lead the first four laps until caution came out on lap four as Tim Stoffel stopped in turn two. The green waved once again and it was Foligno leading the way until Jeff Weaver took over the top spot with Foligno right behind him. Caution would soon come out as Bill Whitney spun in turn four and ended up with a right rear flat ending his night. On the final restart it was Weaver going on to win but was dq’d in tech for a cylinder heads violation. So picking up the win would be Raymond Vann with Jessica Robbins, Don Foligno, Marco Reyes and Brett Phillips rounding out the top five.
The final feature of the night belonged to the ladies. It was the Powder Puff race in the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. Starting on the front row was Michelle Valdes and Kendra Quinn, sister to Don R. Quinn. Row two would be Cindy Bliss related to Jimmy Baker and next to her was Richard Humfeld’s wife Connie and rounding out the field would be defending Powder Puff winner during the Redneck Smash A Rama Angela Bryant The race was caution free with Valdes finding herself battling Bryant after she got around Kendra Quinn for second place. The ladies would battle until the last lap in turn two as Bryant saw the white flag and made a move to the inside going past Valdez and picking up her second win on dirt as many times as she has raced and won in Kalya Jones car. Rounding out the top five were Michelle Valdes, Kendra Quinn, Connie Humfeld and Cindy Bliss.
ASA racing continues next weekend with the Limited Late Models, Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Fours, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers PLUS the Florida Old Time Mods. For further information, log on to www.eastbayracewaypark.com for call 813-677-7223 for more information.
