Salem, IN (June 3, 2013) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance will head to Dixie Motor Speedway, located in Birch Run, Michigan,this Friday for the Dixie 100 Presented by JEGS.com. The event will be the third race of the season for the crate motor template bodied series sanctioned by CRA and its third event held at Dixie Motor Speedway.
In last season’s event at the fast 4/10s (0.400) mile progressively banked d-shaped paved oval, 2012 series Champion Daniel Hemric scored his third victory of the season in holding off Chad Finley to get the win. David Carter finished third, Jerrod Foley fourth and Tom Woodin fifth.
Finley tops the list of entries for Friday’s event, he comes in as the winner of the series last event on May 25th at Columbus Motor Speedway, his second in a row at that track and with the win took over the series points lead. Finley comes into Friday night’s event with a slim six point lead over 17 year old Cody Coughlin, who has started the 2013 season strong with a sixth place finish in the Mercy Masters of the Pros season opener at Lebanon I-44 Speedway and a fifth place finish in front of his hometown crowd at Columbus Motor Speedway, and is entered for Friday’s event.
All of the top 2013 series regulars are entered for Saturday’s event including Josh Nelms, Jerrod Foley and Birch Run native Dan Leeck. Nelms is currently third in series points while Foley and Leeck are tied for fourth. Nelms will be in the TK Racing #8 car for the first time in 2013 for Friday’s event. Other series regulars entered include Landon Cling, Brent Downey, Wes Griffith Jr., Tom Woodin, Jimmy Novak, Jay Sommers and Jordan Miller. 2012 series regular Brandon Hermiller is entered. Hermiller is the nephew of former ARCA Racing Series great Tim Steele and is racing mostly ARCA/CRA Super Series events in 2013.
A huge contention of Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year Presented by Howe Racing candidates are entered including Dominque Van Wieringen, the Howe Racing Rookie of the Race Year points leader heading into Friday’s event. Other registered rookies entered include, Corey Dueser, Hunter Baize, Jake Griffin, Kody Evans, Mark Jacobs, Jaxson Jacobs, Cole Glasson and Brad Cororan.
There are also several local drivers entered for Friday’s event who compete with the series on a part time basis including former Outlaw Late Model competitor Eric Lee, along with Curt Genow and Kyle Hayden. Illinois racer D.J. Weltmeyer, son of famed Mid-west racer Dave Weltmeyer, is entered to make his series 2013 debuton Friday as well as two time CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Champion Keith Sterkowitz, who will behind the wheel of the #11 Lisa Trgovich car for the first time on Friday. Ohio Modified ace Mike Stacy is entered in the JVM #7 that was piloted by Robbie Pyle at the Columbus event.
There will be an open practice on Thursday, pits open at 2pm, practice is scheduled for 2:30 to 7:30pm. On Friday pit gates will open at 12noon. Practice will begin at3:30pm with qualifying for the series at 6:30pm. The race program will begin at 7:30pm and will include an autograph session on the front-stretch prior to the Dixie 100 Presented by JEGS.com for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. Also racing on Friday night will be the Dixie Motor Speedway Bombers and Factory Stocks.
