Denver, NC (2/11/14) – For a driver who was born in 1997, Bret Holmes has already accomplished more than most in a short amount of time. Holmes is a dirt late model standout from Alabama who has already won a crate late model championship at the famous Talladega short track in 2012.
In 2013 Bret moved up to dirt super late models where the winning would continue as he won 2 races, finished 2nd in over points in the Southern All-Star Series, won the rookie of the year and is currently the late model track record holder at Talladega with a lap of 12.958.
Bret comes from a strong racing background as his dad, Stacy Holmes, successfully ran dirt late models across the country for many years. Bret and his family decided to make the move to asphalt late models this season, giving him the best chance at making a name for himself in NASCAR in the near future.
With some help from family friend, Ken Schrader, Holmes has decided to team with Lee Faulk Racing for the 2014 season. LFR plans to race Bret as much as possible throughout the season starting with a full schedule at Hickory Motor Speedway. Bret will compete in all 23 events for the team at the track as well as a limited travelling schedule.
Team owner, Lee Faulk will serve as crew chief and spotter for Bret who will pilot the #5 Chevrolet late model stock car. Bret will use Marlowe/LTO chassis, Harrington Race Engines and MX3 shocks. As Bret gains experience and confidence, he will also travel to do some big races such as Martinsville and Myrtle Beach at the end of the season.
“Our intention is to get Bret as many races under his belt as possible this year ramping up his learning curve quickly to prepare him for the next step. I am especially excited to have a kid with Bret’s talent coming from dirt late models because that is also where I came from. Its nice to have such a diverse group and I can’t wait to start working with Bret.” Team owner Lee Faulk stated regarding his new driver.
As if the late model stock schedule isn’t enough, the team also plans to run Bret in a handful of super late model events across the country including the Snowball Derby and the coveted All-American 400 in Nashville. Holmes also has 15-20 dirt super late model races targeted to run this year as well which will put the total number of races over 50 this year for Bret.
“Very excited to be teamed up with LFR this year. Our plans are going to be tough this year trying to get more asphalt experience, but I know we have a great team for us to be successful.” Holmes says regarding his busy upcoming season.
Bret has already been testing with the team and turned some fast laps in only his first time in the car. The team has a few more tests scheduled for Bret before his first race on March 8th at Hickory Motor Speedway. Bret will also be at Media Day.at the speedway on March 1.
