Florida State Dirt Championship Races A Success at Bubba Raceway Park

The Florida State Championships were a hit for the Late Models, Scorpion UMP Modifieds, Limited Late Models, Mini Sprints, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, TQ Late Models, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators as all eight winners would take home some cash and a beautiful championship ring.

Limited Late Models kicked the night off with Forrest Gough leading the pack as many others struggled in the opening laps. Cecil Eunice would grab the lead from Gough on lap eight as they opened up a half lap over the field. A caution with eight to go would give 2013 division champion Tyler Clem a shot at Eunice and Gough but he wouldn’t make the most of it. 22 99 14 77 61

The Mini Sprints started with Robbie Smith toppling his #77 in turn two. Smith would continue on after the yellow with Jim Young, Connor Borah, and Austin Craddock leading the way. A toople by Robby Hoffman would halt the field on lap four and leave Young to hold off Eddie Moss, Jr. and David Hall. On lap 17, Connor Borah would make contact with traffic and go for a wild tumble in turn four as Jim Young was closing in on lapping him. Borah would climb out of the wreckage under his own power. Young would take a dominant win over Eddie Moss, Jr., David Hall, Austin Craddock, and Kenny Brewer.

The Hobby Stocks would start off with Eddie Kilbury leading a caution-marred event over Trent Wilson and Mike Stalnaker after Brian Morgan would cut a tire on lap two. Stalnaker would grab the lead from Kilbury on lap four before giving it over to Wilson for two laps. On lap six Wilson would spin from the lead while Morgan had worked his way from 20th back to 10th. On lap 15 Wilson and Kilbury would come together and set up a ‘next flag ends it’ finish with Stalnaker leading Brian Morgan. Morgan would grab the lead right before a caution came out and gave Morgan the improbable win over Stalnaker. Kevin Durden, Dennis Williams, and Rodney Wright completed the top five.

Paul Snyder would lead the Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds to green with Jeff Mathews, Rich Pratt, and Kyle Bronson the top four. Mathews and Bronson would jump to the front before contact sent Mathews reeling to the tail and Bronson peeling to the front. By lap 15 the GRT machines of Bronson and Snyder had pulled away but would lose that advantage when Scott Kurtzner spun in turn one as Rich Pratt pulled off the track. Bronson would win easily over Snyder, Roger Crouse, Bruce Harvey, and Shane Nichols.

The TQ Late Models would start off with Terry Wright rocketing from seventh to the lead and pulling away as the field tried to stay in the same zip code as the #007. With three to go Wright would have to hold off Don Strosahl, Jr. and John Hopke for the win which he did. Strosahl would finish second, Hopke would grab third and a championship with Dave Rader and Dalton Hopke completing the top five.

Late Model action began with Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. taking the Big Frog Motorsports #58 (yes, you read that correctly) to the front as Scott Lagasse, Jr. and Shan Smith gave chase. Lloyd would dominate the race until JO Nobles slowed to set up a one lap dash for the win. Lloyd would fend off the always feisty Dalton Myers, Kyle Bronson, Lagasse, and Carter Stokes.

The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks started off with Shane Williams jumping to the front and staying there. On lap five William Arnette barrelrolled his #0 in turn one as Alan Peacock grabbed the lead from Williams. Arnette climbed from the car under his own power. Peacock would hold on to that lead and win the ring over Williams, Jeff Stalnaker, Jr., Brian Morgan, and Chris Fontaine.

The final event of the night would be the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators with Stephen Frankland leading the first two laps before Steve Johnson would overtake him. Frankland would get the lead back when Johnson pitted on lap three with a flat right front tire. By lap nine Frankland was leading Robert Gullett, David Walls, John Windham, and Johnson. Frankland would wrap the season up with a big win over Windham, Walls, Gullett, and Johnson.
