February 1, 2013, – Tampa, FL – It was night #2 of the 3rd Annual World Street Stock Championship on a beautiful cool night here at East Bay Raceway Park. 25 cars registered for the 25 Lap Feature Event to be held later in the evening.
The first of three heat races was won by Brian Morgan from Okeechobee, FL. Heat race #2 went to Tampa’s own Thomas Burnside and the final heat race went to last night’s Feature Winner from Salem, AL “The Rocketman” Ritchie Stephens.
After the heat races were run for the Fastrak Late Models, it was time for the Feature Event. On the front row from Okeechobee, FL, last year’s Champion Tim Powers, and beside him on the outside was Tampa’s Roy Woodhouse. The green flag waved and Scotty Kay, Jr. spun over in turn two bringing out the caution and a complete restart. On the second attempt of the green flag, Roy Woodhouse spun in turn four collecting Dennis Williams of Zephryhills who finished second last night and Jeff Rodgers of Lithia. Rodgers was able to continue but ended Williams hope.
So then it was time for a third attempt and when the green flag waved once again it was Tim Powers leading the way for two complete laps until Matthew Grissom lost a wheel in turn two and at the same time, last night’s feature winner stopped over in turn three. Stephens would retire to the pits but came back out later many laps down.
The green waved once more and Powers was showing the way with Brian Morgan and Kevin Durden battling for the second spot. At the halfway point Powers was still in command until lap thirteen when Stephen Hohlbaugh and Eugene Anderson, Jr. collided in turn two ending Hohlbaughs night once again.
When the green flag waved on lap thirteen it was Powers in front followed by Morgan, Durden, Dennis Wilson, Jr. On the very next lap, Powers slowed in turn two in a cloud of smoke. The transmission had broke ending his night as well. Brian Morgan was the new leader with Durden, Wilson, Jr., Jarod Gay and Bo Slay.
The race resumed until lap nineteen when Roy Woodhouse and Ronnie Whitely tangled in turn four bringing the caution once again. Two more cautions were thrown until the checkered was waved and Brian Morgan had picked up his very first win here at East Bay Raceway Park. Brian thanked his sponsors and when told he could possibly the man in the points lead, he stated “We got our work cut out for us, were not even fast enough”.
Rounding out the top five were Dennis Wilson, Jr., Jarod Gay, Scotty Kay, Jr. and Thomas Burnside. Brain Hansford, Kevin Durden, Eric Moon, Buck Woodhouse and Tim Arnold rounded out the top ten.
Top Six drivers are locked into the A-Main 40 Lap $1,500 To Win Feature Event on Saturday night. Unofficial Top six are Brian Morgan, Scotty Kay, Jr., Thomas Burnside, Eric Moon, Brain Hansford and Buck Woodhouse.
