This Saturday night is “First Responders Night” at Auburndale Speedway. All police, firefighters, EMT’s dispatchers etc. will be admitted free just by showing their ID. A number of activities are planned including a vehicle extrication and SWAT team demonstrations. Bolton’s Towing is donating a Mitsubishi Eclipse that will be used in the extrication demonstration during intermission. Racing action will include the Auburndale Trucks, Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, V-8 Bombers, Mini Stocks and the Scramblers.

The Auburndale Trucks return to action with three drivers, Jim Cowhey, Jr., Tommy King and Tim Sozio tied for the point lead in the very competitive class. Roger Blevins sits just 22 points out of first while Keith Lilley is fifth in points despite three wins as he shares the driving chores with the Trucks’ owner Wally Warrick.

Jason Rendell has taken over the point lead in the Modified Mini Stocks but has just a four point advantage over Scotty Sharpe. Mike Sweet still lurks in third spot just 16 out of the lead.

Jeff Waterman cut just slightly into Matt McCrary’s Street Stock point lead after his win last week but still trails by some 40 markers as the season begins to wind down. In the Mini Stocks, things are getting a bit closer between point leader Chris Spring and defending champion Fred Harrison, Jr. Harrison’s back-to-back victories have him just 18 behind Spring entering this weeks action.

Kimberly Gullett extended her Scrambler point lead to six over Brian Tyre after last weeks crazy race that saw neither driver make it past the first lap. Richard Brown is now firmly entrenched in the third spot in the Scrambler standings but is 70 behind Gullett. Meanwhile, Josh Borem continues to hold onto the V-8 Bomber point lead by 52 over Buddy Phillips, Jr.

Pit gates open Saturday afternoon at 2PM, grandstand gates open at 5PM and racing begins at 7PM. Adult admission is just $12, seniors are $10, kids 5-12 are $5 and children 4 and under are free. Family packs (2 adults – 2 kids 5-12) are $25. Once again, all first responders will get in absoultely free just by showing their ID.

NOTES:

“Lindsey’s Little Racers” will be giving away another pair of bicycles to a lucky boy and a lucky girl this week. They will be the 99th and 100th bikes given away since the program was started during the 2005 racing season. Thanks to Stellar Automotive and the Auburndale Speedway fans for making it possible.

Kudos to the management of DeSoto Superspeedway who have moved a Late Model race they scheduled for the same weekend as Auburndale’s big October 16th Late Model event to the weekend before. The realignment of the schedule does prove that tracks can work together to benefit the sport and means West Central Florida race fans will have some awesome Late Model racing on back-to-back weekends.

Thanks to Royal Tees, New Auburndale Speedway T-Shirts are available. The shirts are just $15 and available every Saturday evening at the beer/peanut stand. Anyone wearing their t-shirt to the track will get $2 off their admission ticket. So, make sure to get your new t-shirt and wear it to the races to save a few bucks…

Fans have been asking if the track would eventually get seat cushions for rent again. Thanks to the kind folks with Aaron’s, new seat cushions will be available this week.
