Steve Darvalics and Aaron Williamson picked up victories in
Saturday night’s twin 25-lap Sportsman features at Desoto Speedway.
Outside polesitter Aaron Williamson got the jump at the start of the race, but Steve Darvalics needed just three laps to come from his deep starting spot to take the lead.
As Darvalics quickly pulled out to a big lead Williamson, Colin Allman, Scott Garrity, Greg Krom and Roger Blevins were battling amongst themselves for second through fifth. As the field came to the end of the 10th lap Krom got into the back of Garrity, sending Garrity into a spin in the fourth turn.
Blevins made light contact with Garrity’s car in the incident, but both cars were able to continue. Krom, whose car sustained some right side damage, was sent to the rear of the field as a result of the incident.
Williamson cut a tire on the restart, allowing Allman and Blevins to slide up into second and third behind Darvalics. Williamson would eventually fight his way back to second, but ran out of time to catch Darvalics before the end of the race.
Blevins held on for third despite a smoking car over the final few laps. Brooke Storer and David Williamson rounded out the top five.
The field was inverted by finishing order for the second 25-lap race, meaning Darvalics and Williamson were forced to start at the rear of the field. As Krom was motoring away from the field early, Darvalics and Williamson threaded their way through traffic and found themselves battling for third within 10 laps.
Williamson got to second place and needed just four laps to catch Krom. Williamson made his move on Krom and grabbed the lead with seven laps to go. Darvalics eventually by Krom for second, but couldn’t run down Williamson over the course of the final laps. Krom, Blevins and Storer rounded out the top five.
In Saturday’s 25-lap Mini Stock feature, Randy Johnson and Jessica Ostrovskis spent most of the race in a side-by-side battle for the lead. Ostrovskis edged Johnson to lead a lap late, but Johnson gained the advantage with three laps left and went on to win by a couple of car lengths. Eric Daniels finished third.
Saturday night also marked the debut of Desoto Speedway’s new enduro-style class, which ran three different feature races over the course of the evening. In the 25-lap enduro feature, Richard Cambpell held off brother Duane in a side-by-side finish; Joe Lombardi led every lap of a wild, 15-lap road course race; and Lombardi finished the night by winning the 10-lap flag pole race.
Winged sprint cars, Desoto Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Pro Trucks, LKQ Pure Stocks, Take Aim Gun Range Street Stocks, Modified Minis and Pro Figure 8’s will all be in action next Saturday night May 16th at Desoto Speedway.
May 23rd the Turner Tree & Landscaping Super Late Models return to action.
