Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL – Once more the World of Outlaws Late Models and Bubba Army Hobby Stocks presented by Ferrea Racing Components took to the 3/8 clay oval for some hot action. The Hobby Stocks were fighting for some pride and cash while the 7th feature event for the World of Outlaws at Bubba Raceway Park would pay $10,000 to the winner. In the previous 6 events only former series champions had won- Darrell Lanigan the first 3 and the 6th, while Josh Richards won the 4th and Rick Eckert the 5th. Other series champions like Shane Clanton and Tim McCreadie were mighty quick on Friday as well as 3-time track champion Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. Would history repeat itself or would a fresh face visit Coors light Winner’s Circle at Bubba Raceway Park?
The Bubba Army Hobby Stocks presented by Ferrea Racing Components feature started with Brian Morgan jumping out to the lead over a handful of drivers like Devin Walker, Grady Christian, and Donnie Ashford. Walker would take over the top spot around the lap 5 mark and never look back as he strolled to a dominant win in the caution-free 20-lapper. “Shady” Grady Christian and Donnie Ashford had a nice tussle for 2nd and Christian held on just barely as those 2 went 3-wide with Kevin Durden for 2nd-4th. With Ashford in 3rd and Durden 4th after struggling most of the night it left Brian Morgan down in 5th place. Walker won a Winter Nationals event for the 2nd consecutive year and the #55 team was ecstatic.
In preliminary action Josh Richards was again Ohlen Shocks Fast Qualifier but only ran a 15.046 this time. Richards promptly won his heat as did Scott James, Mike Marlar, and Darrell Lanigan. The Last Chance B Mains were won by Billy Moyer and Chub Frank, proving how much talent is at Bubba Raceway Park, while the Keyser manufacturing Last Chance race was won by “The Wizard” Dave Hess, Jr. Jonathan Davenport drew pole while Richards got stuck with the 8, Lanigan drew outside pole, and Marlar would draw the #4.
Jonathan Davenport and Darrell Lanigan were given the honors of bringing the World of Outlaws to life for a 50-lapper worth $10,000. Lanigan made quick work of “Superman” and had the lead by the lap 3 caution for Casey Roberts cut tire. Mike Marlar restarted in 2nd and on lap 10 squeezed through the door Lanigan had left open in turn 3. On lap 20 Billy Moyer brought the yellow flag out and left Marlar in front of Lanigan, Tim McCreadie, Richards, and Shane Clanton. The final 30 went green but they weren’t easy. Marlar and Lanigan caught traffic on lap 35 and had to work it methodically as McCreadie began to barrel down on them. On lap 49, with the white flag in site, Marlar made the error and slipped up out of 4 and allowed Lanigan to attack and steal the lead. Nothing could be done as the “Bluegrass Bandit” strolled to his 2nd win of 2013 while Marlar was again left empty-handed. “T-Mac” would finish 3rd with Josh Richards in 4th. Shane Clanton was able to put his Capital Race Car in the top 5. So, after night 2 the Rockets look good with another win, a 2nd, and a 4th while the Warrior goes home with a 3rd place finish and the Capital breaks into the top 5.
It’s gonna get good tomorrow as more drivers will stroll in for the chance to win $20,000 in a 75-lapper. Pits open at 12, grandstands at 1, and hot laps have been rescheduled for 4:30. Don’t miss the final night of the World of Outlaws Late Models! Also, at 12:30 there will be a Fan Gathering by the grandstand concession area with some give-a-ways and even a guest appearance by some World of Outlaws drivers. We encourage you to come meet up with us at 12:30 for the first ever World of Outlaws “Tweet-Up.” For more info on times and prices you may visit www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call us at 352-622-9400!
