October 27th Show to Have Both Pro & Super Late Models
Anderson Bowen was more than excited to see the ARCA / CRA Super Series and the JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour make plans to return to Watermelon Capital Speedway for the Watermelon Twin 100’s on October 27th. Bowen started his 2012 season at the Georgia facility in the JEGS series opener as a part of the SpeedFest event. However, the day lasted just one lap not showcasing his talent. Now some 10 months later, Bowen is fresh off finishing third in the final JEGS/CRA All-Stars Series title chase and winning Rookie of the Year honors and ready for another shot at Watermelon Capital.
“Since we left Watermelon, We have been to 20 different tracks across the country,” explained the 15-year-old from Suwanee, Georgia. “I’ve run with some of the best short track racers out there and we have learned a lot. We have led a lot of laps, won poles and even broke the track record at Winchester. Now we’re ready to go out and win races.”
Bowen ran the Pro Late Model race in January during SpeedFest weekend, but this time he will run both cars as he is fresh off his first official Super Late Model race in the Winchester 400. Bowen qualified on the outside of the front row for one of the biggest Super Late Model races in the country.
“I love going to Watermelon,” said Bowen. “I have a lot of laps around that place and have won many races there in a Bandolero and Pro Challenge. I have a lot of family members and friends who are planning on attending since this track is pretty close compared to where we have been racing all season.”
With one drivers approval the entry list will be filled with others like Bubba Pollard, Kyle Benjamin, Randy Gentry, John Hunter Nemechek, Jay Niewiek, Jared Irvan, Cody Coughlin, Brandon Hermiller, JEGS Champion Daniel Hemric and several others who look to take a late-season win the deep south before the final races of the season.
The CRA staff and track were so impressed with the overwhelming success of January’s SpeedFest event, they added this second CRA-sanctioned event to close out the season.
“Watermelon Capital Speedway had approached us about doing a Fall race to help build the Speedfest 2013 event,” said Glenn Luckett, Series Director for the CRA & JEGS Tours. “We are very excited to be there again. We couldn’t have asked for better results than we had at SpeedFest 2012, the track and the fans were awesome. The facility is in a great location, weather is great there in the Fall and the more racers we expose to the track now, the more we will have return in January for SpeedFest 2013.”
Action gets underway with practice on Friday, October 26th at an optional practice day from 3pm to 7pm on the 3/8-mile track. Saturday, October 27th will have the pit gates opening at 11am with practice at 2pm, qualifying at 5pm and racing will be at 7pm. Local features will take place for the Outlaw Late Models, Enduro and Bandoleros in addition to the ARCA/CRA Super Series Super Late Models and JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Pro Late Models.
