BRP LogoJim Rouse, BRP Media Ocala, FL- The Hobby Stocks, E-Mods, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators all returned to Bubba Raceway Park while the Limited Late Models ran a special $600-to-win feature and the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks ran a $500-to-win race.
The Hobby Stocks put on an impressive show and by lap 4 it was Heath Walker up front in the Suwanee Salvage #55. On lap ten he was overtaken by Mike Stalnaker in his brand new #8. Just two laps later, Alvin Adkison brought out the first caution when he spun in turn 4. Stalnaker lost the lead on lap 14 as Brian Morgan was too much to handle in his #9. Morgan held on through two late cautions to win the race. Stalnaker finished bridesmaid once more with Devin Walker taking third and the points lead. Heath Walker and Sean Monoghan rounded out the top five.
Shane Nichols led the opening ten-lap stint before a competition caution came out, and a message as well- Bubba made it clear to Nichols: “If you drop to the tail and come back to win, I’ll give you $200.” The fans cheered for him to do so, but he ultimately decided to hold station up front. Nichols was hounded by Shane Taylor for the next seven laps until Taylor spun in turn 1. Nichols took the win- his fourth consecutive- over Shawn Taylor, Shane Taylor- who rebounded nicely, Bubba Byers, and Lenny O’Neill. The top 3 are ‘frozen’ as they are awaiting a ruling from UMP on a spring rule, with Nichols the man who may lose the argument, and history, unfortunately. The rest of the field’s order is confirmed.
The Limited Late Models also had an amzing fight up front and Tim Powers had the job of holding off Tyler Clem. Clem would not remove himself from Powers’ rear bumper, and driver #14 gave the fans a true feel-good story. In the end Powers did win, but admitted in Victory Lane that ‘The Kid’ was definitely coming. Clem finished second with Jason Pope, Devin Walker, and Chuck Jackson in tow.
William Gillam led the opening stint for the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and actually held on through two early cautions. On lap seven, Jason Gamble got loose and spun the Donnie Dobbins-owned #33 and made unfortunate contact with Tony Campbell. Both driver’s nights were over, but they were okay. Gillam held the lead until lap twelve when Jeff Stalnaker, Jr. took over the point. Stalnaker held on through the final restart and went from worst-to-first to record his second win of the season. Gillam came across in second, Melvin Fockler finished third, James Erickson finished fourth, and Brandon Elwood rounded out the top five.
The Rent-N-Roll Gladiators also had an impressive finish with three cars on three different strategies. Kyle Moore was extremely aggressive on corner entry, Stephen Frankland was smooth, and Tyler Bryden was simply waiting and learning. Moore led the first two laps before handing the lead to Frankland. Frankland led Moore and Bryden until two-to-go, as that’s when Bryden called it go-time. Bryden used the outside to get around Moore and gave it all he had in turn three on the final lap. Bryden came up a car-length short in the end, but he certainly showed Frankland, the winner, that more competition has arrived. Moore finished third behind Frankland and Bryden. Tom Sheehan finished fourth and Bill Southard completed the top five.
The Late Models return next week-end with the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and the $750-to-win E-Mods.
