BRP BannerJim Rouse, Ocala, FL- The Bubba Army 360 Sprint Cars return to the 3/8 mile in Ocala this week-end, as do all the fans and employees after a well deserved week-end off to enjoy with friends and family. The Hobby Stocks and Limited Late Models will join them, and the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks will battle for a $500 prize. There is also a Kid’s Bike Race scheduled.
Robbie Smith has yet to win at the 3/8 mile, but he is our current points leader- if only be eight points- over “The Captain” Tony Agin who is also winless. In fact, the whole top 5 is winless as both of our winners (Matt Kurtz and Danny Martin, Jr.) have been hit-or-miss in 2013. Terry Witherspoon sits twenty-two out, but has rookie Andy Cobb breathing down his neck with just two points separating them. AJ Maddox is mired thirty-seven back after some bad luck, but it may be a hit-or-miss year if Kurtz and Martin are the ones to go by.
Tyler Clem, still happy to have a double digit age, is the Limited Late Models points leader with a runner-up finish to Tim Powers and a win last time out. Clem can’t breathe easy as Jason Pope is just eleven back and Chuck Jackson rides a further eleven down the board. Powers is fourth, fifty-eight back, and Nevin Gainey sits fifth with half of Clem’s tally as his points score.
Devin Walker has been phenomenal this season with a couple of wins to his credit and a 114-point lead. Brian Shea hasn’t been able to keep chase as a couple of missed races for family functions has him stuck in that deficit. Hunter Gustafson took his first couple of wins early on, but has fallen to over 150 points behind Walker in the standings. “Crossover” Sean Monoghan is juggling an asphalt schedule with some dirt races and that has kept him from pursuing the title, but he always runs towards the front and that has him fourth over Dennis Williams. Williams has been selecting his races wisely, but just like Monoghan, he always runs towards the front.
William Gillam stole his points lead back, even if only by four points, after the last event. Brandon Elwood now rides second, but currently owns the tie breaker with two wins to Gillam’s one. Melvin Fockler jumped up to third which shows the dedication and consistency he’s had since getting thrown over 100 back after six features. Fockler is still sixty-seven out, but has scored the most points in the summer stretch. Tony Campbell now sits fourth, nearly one-hundred out, after a dismal week-end last time out, and Brandon Tillander has had to pull the back-up machine out to try to stay in the championship fight.
Racing is scheduled for 7, pits open at 4, and grandstands at 5. For more info, and to look at the schedule through Christmas, check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call us at 352-622-9400!
