Bernhardt-Winner-5-24-14Tampa, FL  – Six divisions were on hand as Late Models, Limited Late Models, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, Outlaw Fours, Florida Old Time Mods and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers were here at East Bay Raceway Park on Memorial Day Weekend.

Before the night began it was the VFW of Dade City Post 4283 with Captain Jerry Cleveland leading the Honorary Color Guard to present the colors as the National Anthem played along with Isabelle Growe signing the Anthem.

The first feature of the night belonged to the Florida Old Time Mods. When the green waved it was David Kelley leading the entire race as it went caution free. Rounding out the top five were Dan Darnell, Roger Herbach, Jamie Franklin and Bob Fink.

Next feature was the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks as Buck Woodhouse and David Barwick, II won their heats and would make up the front row for the 15 Lap Feature event. When the green waved it was Scotty Kay, Jr. and Woodhouse side by side on lap one. Kay would take over the lead on lap two. Kay would continue to lead until the first caution came out on lap seven when Matt Bozeman spun in turn four ending his night. Caution would come out again on lap eleven when Larry Chumney, II spun in turn two. Kay would lead the rest of the race picking up his first win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Buck Woodhouse, Thomas Burnside, David McCormick and William Burnside.
Limited Late Models were next as Tim Dowling and Dale Pope made up the front row for the feature. Dowling would lead the first four laps until Curtis Book spun in turn two. On the restart Dowling would lead with Pope and Henry Burnside the top three. The next caution came out on lap ten when Richard Livernois, Jr. spun in turn two. On lap thirteen it was Henry Burnside spinning out of turn two doing a complete 360 after running in the third position. Only two more cautions would come out with Dowling crossing the start finish line first picking up his very first feature win. After going thru tech he was DQ’d for not having enough weight in front of the flywheel, so that gave Dale Pope the win with Forrest Gough, John Wilson, Randy Shields and Donald Sarff.

Next up were the Late Models for the 25 Lap Feature Event with Bryan Bernhardt and Dave Schmauss making up the front after winning their heats. When the green waved it would be Dalton Myers leading the way on lap one by just a half car length over Dave Schmauss. Lap four the first caution would come out as Adam Boyd slowed in turn three. Myers would lead the field to the restart with Schmauss, Josh Peacock, Mavrick Varnadore and Shan Smith the top five. Peacock lead for half a lap until Myers fought back taking the lead once again on lap five. Myers would continue to hold off the field until lap eighteen when Jesse James Foster spun in front of the leader in turn four with Myers nearly clipping him. On the restart Myers continued to lead as the pole sitter Bernhardt made his way back up to the fourth position trying to reel in the leader. Caution came out on lap eighteen with Varnadore spinning in turn two as Bernhardt went by him on the outside. Myers again took the green flag and coming out of turn two it was Bernhardt splitting Peacock and Schmauss to take over the second position and would take over the lead on lap twenty one. Bernharndt went on to win his first feature of the 2014 Season and finally breaking his streak of not winning since his last time he won back on September 11, 2011. “I’m back to try and win another one here and glad to be back at my home track, East Bay Raceway Park,” Bernhardt exclaimed with a big smile on his face. Rounding out the top five were Josh Peacock, Dalton Myers, David Schmauss and Mavrick Varnadore.

Outlaw Fours were next up as Brian Barse and newcomer Mark Moniz made up the front row for their 15 Lap Feature Event. Barse took the green leading the way until Roberto Morfin, Jr. stopped on the front stretch after breaking a distributor cap ending his night with a thirteenth place finish. The next caution would come out on lap four as Nick Hebrank broke the suspension and ended his night.  Several more cautions came out throughout the race. It was on the last restart as Zack Amundsen made his way up to second to try and challenge Barse for the win. Barse would go on to win his first feature in over seven years. He was glad to be back in Victory Lane after such a long time. He said in Victory Lane that the motor was probably blown but he didn’t wanna give up the win he said in Victory Lane. Rounding out the top five were Zack Amundsen, Chris Zimmerman, Thomas Braswell and Mark Moniz.

The final event of the night went to the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers with John Moore and Jimmy Williams making up the front row for the feature. Williams appeared to have problems before the race would start but was able to get the car fired back up taking his spot next to Moore before the green flag would wave. Moore would lead until last week’s feature winner George Handy would be side by side at the start finish line on lap three. Only two cautions would come out for the race as Moore and Handy would continue to battle throughout the feature. Moore went on to win as Handy’s car appeared to shut off with just two laps to go. Rounding out the top five were Richard Humfeld, Kayla Jones, Britt Mann and Gene Gross.
