Wayne Anderson picked up win number six for The Powell Family Memorial 125 and #6 for the FUPS Season this past Saturday at Citrus Co. Speedway. Starting in the tenth position after a slower qualifying speed than he had posted all day in practice, he found the right set up to take the lead on lap 53 of the 125 lap event. Anderson was challenged by Brooksville’s Daniel Webster who dogged him right up to the final lap with some of the best racing seen all year.
To say Anderson was pleased with the outcome would be an understatement. “I feel like I took a 5th place car and won with it tonight. Once I got out front, I just took his line away from him.” Anderson said, When asked about his performance to date in the 2013 FUPS Late Models, Anderson seemed beside himself, “Man… 6 (wins) out of 7 and a second… I just can’t even explain how tough this is to do. When asked about racing Webster for the win, Anderson went on to say, “That team has a lot to be proud of and Daniel has turned into a great racer. Every one of these FUPS races we come to I know I’m going to be racing him for the win.”
Daniel Webster’s second place finish came in a 17 year old car that was put together by himself and his father. When asked why this race means so much, Webster explained that in the 2007 Powell Memorial, the last race on Asphalt, he led by a good margin. It was his first time leading a race, much less a race with that much prestige. On lap 115 of 125 that day, the right front hub on Webster’s car broke and he watched Wayne Anderson go on to win.
Rounding out the top ten behind Anderson and Webster was track favorite Scott Grossenbacher coming from his 12th starting position, 4th was fast qualifier and early race leader Jessie Dutilly Billy Bigley Jr. with another top 5, followed by Scofield, Sergi, Randy Anderson, Cataldi, and Joe Winchell. Twenty six cars took time and all 26 started with half the field still on track at the checkered, this was FUPS largest field in it’s three year history.
