Super Late Models rolled into town and as expected Wayne Andersons # 84 SLM was on rails. Anderson dominated the event and rocketed into Victory Lane. Finishing 2 and 3rd to the patriarch were sons Randy and Ricky. The senior Anderson is serving notice that he is KING of the newly adopted 25 lap sprint event. Both Bronson Speedway and Citrus County Speedway have adopted a 25 lap race format in order to cut to the chase. The drop of the green signals “game on” so passing begins at lap 1 leaving NO time for the traditional follow the leader type race. It’s a pass or be passed race format, and to date Anderson leads the way finding consistant success at both short track venues. Anderson “aint so easy to pass”.
The Limited Late Model Sportsman race was THE most exciting event of the night. The buzz in the air all week had been building about Kevin Durdens return to asphalt racing in the Pork Chop Wilson owned #56. When the green flag dropped Durden wasted no time getting to the front from a 7th place starting position after the invert. On lap 4 Durden passed the #22 of Chip “Hollywood” Owen and for the next 20 cycles Durden maintained the lead. It appeared Durden was well on his way to a Cinderella come back. However Owen had different plans and just kept “diggin” because he had a birds eye view of Durden car, and could see the handle going away. Each lap the lead dwindled, and as Durden’s car continued to “go away” Owen’s car “turned on”. In racing, many times the win or loss of a race is car set up, not driver talent.
With 2 laps to go, Owen was all over Durden entering turn 3. Owen dove to the bottom and when the duo existed turn 4 Owen sealed the deal with a picture perfect pass. In Victory Lane a smiling Chip “Hollywwod” Owen yelled “THATS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT” as he grabbed the checkered flag. Second was #16 of Patrick Mennenga with Durden having to settle for P3.
Durden undoubtedly will go back to the shop, tweak the set up and come back to try it again. Competition in Bronson Speedways Limited Late Model Sportsman division is fierce so Durden will have his work cut out for him with the likes of the Owen brothers Kyle and Chip along with Mennenga, Bowers, Cooper and last years Champ Kenner Brown III just to name a few.
Purestock Competition kept the excitement going as “This Curl is on Fire”…For the third time this season WILLISTON HS senior Devin Curl raced his way to another feature win. The threepete so to speak…Curl took 6 laps from a 5th place starting position to get to the front and then never looked back. Finishing second was #2 of Tommy Jones, who car is really fast, but now need to find a little luck at Bronson Speedway as an early race tangle held up his chance to challenge Curl. Moving into next weeks race Curl cannot start any higher than 5th spot due to Bronson Speedways rule of, after 3 feature event wins in a season, a driver cannot start any higher that 5th spot in regular competition for the remainder of the season.
Strictly Stock Competition had another first time winner in 2015. Robert Oneail in the T1 brought home the win to car owner Mike Brooks who drives the ever fast #19. In second was ?#?24x? of Alan Harmon and rounding out the top 3 #19 Mike Brooks.
American Automotive Owner Ronnie Fowler jumped on board to sponsor this event putting money up for both the 2 and 3rd place cars. American Automotive is located in Old Town where “We Do It All” is their motto. Call 352-542-2518 for all your Automotive needs.
Next week at Bronson Speedway Purestocks, Street Stocks, Strictly Stocks and Pro Challenge will be on hand and any Legend and Bandolaro are welcome to come race the high banks.
We are also working on an E-Mod schedule so look for these racers to roll into town soon.
Next Sat grab a friend, your neighbor, your family and come on out to Bronson Speedway…
