ATWOOD, TN – Clayhill Motorsports will present its biggest race of the year with the Cotton Boll Cup on September 29 through October 1. There will be extra laps and extra cash for nine racing divisions that is expected to draw drivers from seven states to the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval. The Cotton Boll Cup will be headlined by the NeSmith-Style Street Stocks and the Open-Wheel Modifieds.
The NeSmith-Style Street Stock main event will be a 30-lap $1,500-to-win race for the fastest growing class of race car in the country. The Street Stocks will run under the popular “NeSmith-style” rules that has created two and three-wide racing throughout the country. Technical support for the division at the Cotton Boll Cup will be provided by personnel that have worked with the NeSmith organization.
The Open-Wheel Modifieds will also compete in a 30-lap $1,500-to-win main event. The Open-Wheel Modifieds have long been a popular Division of racing in the area, and a large field of the powerful racing machines is expected for the Cotton Boll Cup.
The Crate Late Models and the Hobby Stocks will also be on the Cotton Boll Cup racing card with both Divisions running a 20-lap $1,000-to-win main event. The Crate Late Models are powered by Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. Many drivers in the area have competed for a National Championship in the Crate Late Model Division.
Five other racing Divisions on the Cotton Boll Cup racing program will be the E-Mods, Clayhill Motorsports Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Mini Mods and Hummers. The E-Mods main event will be 20 laps and $1,000-to-win. The Clayhill Motorsports Street Stocks will race for 20 laps and $750-to-win, and the Pure Stock Cotton Boll Cup main event will go for 15 laps and pay $500-to-win.
The on-track action begins on Thursday night, September 29 with an Open Practice Session. Gates open at 5 p.m., with practice from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The General Admission Grandstand will be free of charge for the Open Practice, and pit passes are $20.
The racing action on Friday night, September 30 will feature Qualifying and Heat Races for all six racing divisions. Competitors must compete on Friday night to race on Saturday night. The pit gate opens at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gate opens at 5 p.m. Hot Laps are set for 6 p.m., and racing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Grandstand tickets will be $10 and pit passes are $30.
The B-Main Races and the Feature Races will be on tap for racing action on Saturday night, October 1. The pit gate opens at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gate opens at 5 p.m. Hot Laps are set for 6 p.m., and racing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Grandstand tickets will be $10 and pit passes are $30.
