Owens Overtakes Bloomquist to Win Toyota Knoxville 50

10330232_10152071669457015_5417733051147573532_nTAZEWELL, TN (May 30, 2014) – In a classic battle between two Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champions, Jimmy Owens and Scott Bloomquist, Owens emerged victorious over Bloomquist Friday night at Tazewell Speedway.  Owens passed Bloomquist on the 36th lap and then sailed away for his second series win of the season in front of a huge crowd at the Toyota Knoxville 50.

Bloomquist led the first 36 laps of the event until he got trapped behind a lapped car and Owens swept by him on the outside coming off of turn number four.  Bloomquist then had to hold off hard-charging Chris Madden to finish second.  Current series point’s leader, Don O’Neal came home fourth, followed by 2-time track champion, Billy Ogle, Jr.

“The car was just great all night,” said the driver of the Club 29 Chassis owned by Mike Reece. “”The race got off to a rough start; I think it was a little bit slimy down low there in one and two, and when I saw Scott catch the traffic, I figured I might as well go in harder in turns three and four up top. It worked out for us!  It has been a long day, my mom had surgery this morning, and they may have to re-do it again tomorrow, so my thoughts are with her.”

Todd Morrow From 10th To Take Second Southern All Star Win At Tennessee National Raceway

SAS LogoHOHENWALD, TN–The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series returned to the ¼ mile Tennessee National Raceway for the first time since 1993 and the huge crowd on hand did not leave disappointed as Todd Morrow of East Ridge, TN., came form his 10th stating spot to take over the lead with less than 10 laps remaining to get his second win of the season with the series and a $4,000 paycheck.

Brad Skinner of Spring Hill, TN., and Anthony Burroughs of Minden, LA., led both groups in White Performance qualifying and started on the front row.  Skinner jumped out and led the first two laps with Burroughs getting under Skinner to take over the top spot and then pull ahead a few car lengths over the rest of the field, until a caution came out and bunched the field back up behind Burroughs.

Burroughs brought the field aback around for the restart and then had a full pack of cars behind him with Dane Dacus of Lakeview, TN., making a strong charge to the front from his 5th starting spot and he took over the top spot from Burroughs on lap 21.  Dacus who was looking for his second career win with the series looked to be the man to beat as he continued to stretch his lead over the rest of the field.

Hernandez and Stickler take Twin 35’s

desotoJake Wilson – The Open Wheel Modifieds, sponsored by J.D. Byrider took to the high banks of Desoto Speedway for Twin 35 lap features. The field was set from an inversion of the heat races starting Travis Roland on the pole alongside Dalton Nelson. A nice stretch of green flag racing came to a halt as the first and second place cars, #10 of Travis Roland and the #0 of Josh Todd would tangle in turns 3 and four. Nick Hernandez in the 37 machine, who has had nothing but bad luck so far this year took advantage of the restarts to work through the field and pick up a huge win. The 03 of Kyle Bookmiller took second while Josh Todd in the 0 recovered to take third.

KEENE SPEEDS TO 50-LAP PRO LATE MODEL WIN AT NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY

Daniel Keene, Jr. waves to the crowd after winning the 50-lap Pro Late Model race Saturday night...A great field of 18 Pro Late Models filled the pits Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway for their second 50-lap event of the year, but when all was said and done, Daniel Keene, Jr. had pretty much dominated the evening.  Keene, who hails from Weeki Wachee, came out 11th for qualifying and blistered the track with a time of 17.635 seconds, over two-tenths of a second quicker than Jacksonville driver Ray Black, Jr. who ran a 17.849 second lap.  Cody Blair of Winter Park was third fastest at 17.880 seconds.  Keene drew a six for the inversion placing he and Black in row three for the start while Ricky Anderson and Jarrett Snowden lined up on the front row.  Snowden moved out to the early lead only to see Tyler Thomas loop the Tim Russell Driver Development car in turn two during lap three.  On the restart, Cody Blair drove by Snowden for the top spot but it was Keene on the charge, taking the lead for good on lap ten.  Being in front of everyone else would prove to be advantageous for Keene in this race.  Lap 16 produced the second yellow flag as Michael Williams did a solo spin in turn one.  A lap after the restart, a multi-car tangle took place in turn four involving Alan Bruns, Tyler Audie and Rich Clouser.  Clouser's car was towed to the pits but he would return to the fray a bit later, although eight laps down.  Keene continued to set the pace, leading easily.  Just as the field took the crossed flags for half-way at lap 25, Blair and Black tangled on the front stretch.  David Rogers had nowhere to go and he plowed into Blair's machine as Will Carroll hit Rogers' car from behind.  Both Blair and Rogers were done for the night.  Black had minimal damage but was sent to the rear of the field for the restart.  Carroll's car suffered some front end damage but he checked the car out after the red flag period was over and determined it to be just cosmetic and he continued without pitting.
