Richards Records No. 8 this Season in a Wild One

Overton Records First Podium Finish of Season

062416_Lernerville_2SARVER, Pa. –  June 24, 2016 – Josh Richards was the first one to the checkers Friday, winning the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series second preliminary feature night of the Firecracker 100 weekend presented by GottaRace.com at Lernerville Speedway. Though he was the last man standing on the second night, it did not come without a trio of drivers nipping at his rear tires.

Two cautions within the first three laps did not slow down the 28-car field – mainly Billy Moyer Jr. and Brandon Overton, who traded paint for the second spot. Though Moyer prevailed, Overton grew persistent; he passed Moyer shortly after on the second restart.

One lap later, Richards’ No. 1 Valvoline/ Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket car made a push from 10th place – .200 seconds from a seat on the podium. By lap 10, a three-way battle to be top dog had Richards, Overton and local stud Russ King showing their teeth. Grouped together on lap 13 – away from the rest of the field – Richards attempted an under-over pass on Overton’s No. 76 Budweiser/ C-H Paving Moyer/ Victory machine in turn two. Overton slammed the door on the backstretch, but Richards claimed the spot in turn four.

“Coming down, we have a good car,” Overton said. “We just need to build on it, and maybe we’ll get it tomorrow.” (more…)

Mullins finished second with Weisser in third, Kelly Kovski in fourth and Ray Bollinger in fifth. Nathan Balensiefen was the night’s hard charger.

In just four races so far this Modified Nationals season, Hoffman has won three.

Dennis Erb Jr. Dominates Summer Nationals at Spoon River

Pierce Adds to His Summer Nationals Points Lead

0spoonriver-062316-584CANTON, Ill. – June 23, 2016 – Dennis Erb Jr., fresh of his win at the Dirt Late Model Dream, came into Thursday night’s DIRTcar Summer Nationals at Spoon River Speedway with the wind at his back and did it ever show.

Erb cruised to a dominant victory over Billy Moyer and Bobby Pierce in the 50-lap feature and scored the $10,000 payday.

“I didn’t know if it was easy or not,” Erb said. “The car was good and I didn’t see anybody challenge me there. We were able just to get out front and I didn’t feel no challenge, so I just kept driving my line.”

Erb started the feature on the pole and and easily pulled away from Moyer through the opening half of the feature. A caution flag flew on lap 28, but Erb maintained when the feature returned to green. Through traffic in the closing laps, Moyer tried to close the gap on Erb but was unable to make a move.

The win was the 20th Summer Nationals victory of Erb’s career.

Pierce charged through the field and battled past Mike Marlar to finish in third. He added to his Summer Nationals points lead. (more…)

Matt Sheppard Scores in Return to Williams Grove

Scores First Full-Points Super DIRTcar Series Victory of the Season

062216SDSVLPhoto(By Mandee Pauch) MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – June 22, 2016 -Tim Fuller led early at Williams Grove Speedway on Wednesday night, but it was Matt Sheppard who battled to the lead and was dominant through much of the 100-lap Modified Mayhem at the Grove Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds feature.

In the series’ first return to the track in a decade, Sheppard became the sixth different winner in six Super DIRTcar features run at the track since 1989. The defending series champion was able to lead the last 47 circuits to score the Modified Mayhem $6,000 top prize.

“The track started locking down a little bit there early. I just tried to ride it out and drive it nice and straight,” explained Sheppard in victory lane. “The guys in front started to get slower in the long runs and we maintained. I think that’s what won us the race tonight. Once we got up front I just wanted to hit my marks and take it easy.” (more…)

Saldana Scores Thrilling NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown Victory

Snaps 18-Race Winless Streak and Remains Only Series Driver to Win at I-80 Speedway

062216_i80_edited-1GREENWOOD, Neb. – June 22, 2016 – Joey Saldana captured the lead on the opening lap from David Gravel and held off Donny Schatz on a green-white-checkered finish to score his fourth World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season in the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown at I-80 Speedway on Wednesday night.

Saldana, who snapped an 18-race winless streak that stretched back to Jacksonville Speedway on May 4, remains the only series driver to win on the 4/10-mile track after also winning this event in 2014.

“In means a lot [to win at I-80 Speedway],” Saldana said. “Before my grandpa passed away, this was one of the last race tracks he got to come to and watch me race. I would say he was riding with me tonight because I haven’t been that good all month, so to win this race, not just because I needed to win it for Roth Motorsports, but I needed to win it for my family and myself.”

Saldana’s victory did not come easy. After capturing the lead on the opening lap, the driver of the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock No. 83 had to hold off a hard-charging Donny Schatz, who had charged from his ninth starting position to crack the top five by the halfway point, then made his way to second with just 10 laps to go. Richards Skyrockets to Win No. 7 at Weedsport

Five Drivers Finish on Lead Lap

062216_Weedsport_GraphicWEEDSPORT, N.Y. – June 21, 2016 – Josh Richards played tag from the front row Tuesday night at Weedsport Speedway (N.Y.), leaving only five cars on the lead lap of the Finger Lakes 40 in his seventh win of the season.

“I can’t thank my guys enough,” Richards said. “They worked their butts off, and I’m just glad I can put [the car] up front for them.”

Richards, who led the 24-car field into the green flag with his No. 1 Valvoline/ Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket car, held the lead for all 40 laps. Richards won his heat earlier in the night by more than a three-and-a-half second margin, but that gap was unparalleled to how much he pulled away from the pack in the feature.

Richards maintained a similar differential through the first half of the race. The true fight was from spots four through six. Shane Clanton, Rick Eckert and Brandon Overton jockeyed for position within the first 10 laps of the feature, nearly spreading three-wide across the 3/8-mile oval. Overton relied on the top groove early, but soon forfeited the high-side of the track to Clanton, who broke into the top 5 by lap 7.

While Overton continued to fade, Clanton and Eckert chased-down third place Steve Casebolt by lap 21. The trio bunched up, weaving as a unit through lapped traffic. It took a bold move on lap 17 from Clanton’s No. 25 Weldbank Energy/ Coopers Meat Packers Capital machine however to take third. With Clanton’s fender nearly grazing the wall with every lap, he set his sights on second-place Frank Heckenast Jr.

“We were just trying to bide our time and pick our line, and we needed to get by those guys,” Clanton said. “I knew I was better than them biding my time. I knew that Josh [Richards] was long-gone…we needed a caution there at the end to see if I had anything for him. But overall: good night.” (more…)

CARS Tour Event Preview powered by KRC Power Steering: LeftturnsandSunburns.com 200 – Greenville Pickens Speedway

CARS Tour LogoMOORESVILLE, NC (June 21, 2016): The only new track that competitors will visit this season will be Greenville-Pickens Speedway as the CARS Tour heads to the Palmetto state this weekend. The historic paper-clipped shaped half mile track bares legendary names such as Pearson and Earnhardt and could be an unfamiliar place for many on the CARS Tour.  However, the biggest Late Model Stock event each season is held at Martinsville Speedway, a track that has almost exact characteristics to that of Greenville, making two time Martinsville 300 winner Tommy Lemons Jr. an instant threat. Chase Purdy, who has struggled on the CARS Tour circuit but leads Greenville-Pickens points, could get his opportunity to shine at his Hawk-McCall Motorsports’ team home track. On the Super Late Model side two familiar faces in Harrison Burton and Kyle Grissom return to action to try and slow down the success of the David Gilliland Racing Toyota’s who have won the tour’s last two events. Series point leader, Raphael Lessard, will have a veteran teammate in the form of Anthony Anders, the 2014 NASCAR All-American Series champion, who hails from Easley and literally has thousands of laps around the paper-clip shaped track.   (more…)
