Davenport Dashes to Win at Attica

Davenport Wins at AtticaATTICA, OH (September 2, 2016) Defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion Jonathan Davenport returned to his winning form by taking the feature event on Friday night at Attica Raceway Park. Davenport took the lead on lap 14 from Doug Drown, who had led the first 13 circuits.

Dennis Erb Jr. charged from his 12th starting spot to finish second. Doug Drown, the defending track champion at Attica, had the home track fans on their feet for the first part of the race. He eventually came home in third. New track record holder Darrell Lanigan was fourth, and Jimmy Owens; who won the first time the series raced at Attica finished fifth.

Davenport, who is currently second in the series points standings, had not finished the last three LOLMDS events, and was relieved to be back in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. “It feels good to be here again! I have to thank Kevin [Rumley] and my guys. They have worked their tails off the last two weeks. Everybody knows we haven’t been running well lately. We aren’t dead, and we are not done yet! We are just going to keep on working to find an edge,” said the 32-year-old racer.

“Man what a race track this is! I just want to thank Troy Baird of Baird Transport, Elite Concrete, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, the Labontes back home at the shop and I also want to say we miss Lee Roy Rumley. He is not here tonight; he is back home building us a new motor.” (more…)

LEBANON-VALLEY(By Mandee Pauch) WEST LEBANON, N.Y – Sept. 1, 2016 – Matt Sheppard made a late race charge by Kenny Tremont Jr. and set his No. 9s machine on cruise control at Lebanon Valley Speedway for the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified Mr. Dirt Track USA 100.

Wooten and Eunice Shine Brightest in GIS SC5 Runs on August 27!

golden isles logo(August 27, 2016) – The stars may not have littered the sky on a cloud-covered evening. But the stars of the NeSmith Performance Street Stocks shined brightly Saturday evening at Golden Isles Speedway. None was more vivid then Brian Wooten. The B-dub Express topped a stellar field from three states to win the Super Challenge 5 Series 25-lap feature. He led every circuit on the 4/10-mile, red gumbo clay oval.

“Car did pretty good,” Wooten said of his $2,000 win. “Track was a little off this week. I’m not used to the track being this wet. I don’t like it this wet so I have a little homework to do, but it worked out tonight.”

Rain fell during the day three different times leaving a tacky surface throughout the program. That did not stop Wooten shooting from the pole and then opening the advantage again after a handful of restarts. The regular GIS high flyers were in the house as well as the aces from elsewhere. Richie Stephens, Kyle Livingood, Robert Hicks and Ronnie Newsome rounded out the top five. Justin McRee, Woodstock, Ala., jumped into the Dunn Motorsports High Roller Race Cars house car. The Late Model veteran won his heat, but went backwards some in the main and took seventh.

“They are the best of the best,” Wooten added. “Richie has helped me a tremendous amount and to have Justin start beside me and beat him tonight is just unreal.” (more…)

Slack said the charges leveled by Scott Bloomquist and four other Late Model drivers, who are seeking some $16.5 million in damages, are “meritless.”

Bloomquist and the drivers, along with team owners R&W Motorsports LLC, Best Performance Motorsports LLC, JR Motorsports LLC, Gary Satterlee and William G. Satterlee & Sons Inc., sued racetrack owner World Racing Group Inc. and its subsidiary, UMP DIRTcar Racing; as well as Ohio’s Eldora Speedway and its owner, Stewart; in Northern New York’s federal court last week.

“Our team at Eldora Speedway is amidst the final days of preparation for the Baltes Classic and the 46th running of the World 100 — our sport’s showcase event,” Slack said in a statement Monday. “As always, we are committed to providing a one-of-a-kind experience for our loyal fans, drivers and race teams. We will not be distracted by news of meritless lawsuits. Our legal team will deal with that and we will comment further at the appropriate time.” (more…)

MARTELL GETS SURPRISE WIN IN PRO TRUCKS – WRIGHT ALL THE WAY IN V-8 BOMBERS AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

logoYogi Berra’s famous words “It ain’t over ’til it’s over” rang true Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway after 50 hard laps of Pro Truck racing.

The evening began a bit on the wet side as it took quite awhile to dry the race track following rain showers that drenched the facility from late morning until around 4 pm.  However, with clearing skies looming to the east, promoter Rex Guy waited out the long left-over drizzle and the show went on, although just a bit late getting started.

Qualifying for the two headlining classes was scrapped and starting positions for both the 50-lap Pro Truck race and the 40-lapper for the V-8 Bombers were determined by a pill draw.  For the trucks it was local driver Cody McDuffie using his front row starting spot to zip out to a comfortable lead at the drop of the green while Michael Goddard, Cody Martell, Becca Monopoli and Danny Anderson settled into some nose-to-tail racing behind him.  Monopoli became the first driver to make a move as she passed Martell for third on lap ten.  From there it was green flag racing as the trucks became spread out all over the speedway with McDuffie putting laps on a number of drivers before the first caution flag came out on lap 35 as it appeared second-running Goddard got into one of the lapped machines with the result a whole bunch of torn off sheet metal on the right side of his racer. Runaway Richards

Pulls Away to Capture Win No. 17, Tying Single Season Record

082816_WOOLM_MerrittLAKE CITY, Mich. – August 28, 2016 – Josh Richards won the Keyser Manufacturing Great Lakes Shootout decisively Sunday night at Merritt Speedway. With his 17th trip to victory lane, Richards tied the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series record for most wins in a season.

“We got to win six or seven, and we’ve had a phenomenal year,” Richards said. “It’s just crazy to think we’ve had ten wins since then. The track moved around quite a bit, more than I thought. I thought the bottom was going to be better than the top. The top had just enough brown where I was a little too tight early. But once the tires got to speed it was a lot better. I was just trying to get through lapped traffic the best I could, catch the brown, and it was a lot of fun racing. I can’t thank Merritt enough for holding us out another day.” (more…)

Donny Schatz Wins Gerdau Magic City Showdown for Fifth Straight Year at Nodak Speedway

NodakWin(Tony Veneziano) MINOT, N.D. — August 28, 2016 — It took Donny Schatz until his seventh start to win at his home track of Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. Since that victory in 2012, he been undefeated in the Gerdau Magic City Showdown. Schatz extended his win streak at Nodak Speedway to five, after leading flag-to-flag on Sunday night at the three-eighths-mile.

Schatz started second and on the initial start ran second to pole sitter Logan Schuchart, but the first caution flag of the night flew before the lap was complete. That led to a complete restart and on the second start, Schatz was able to dive under Schuchart on the front straightaway to officially lead the first lap. Schatz was in traffic just five laps into the race and like his win on Friday night at River Cities Speedway, he masterfully weaved his way through the lapped machines.

“They are all special and they are all good,” said Schatz of his five wins at Nodak Speedway. “The trophies here are awesome and so are the people. Everything about this place is great. I’ll tell you what’s really great, and that is this race team. These guys (on my crew) deserve to be standing here. The race car they prepare each day is incredible. I’m the lucky guy that gets to drive it and looks good. Their hard work is what pays off and gets us to victory lane.” (more…)
