Wheel Man Points Tighten After Halloween Race at Citrus County Speedway

trophy-pic-low-resLakeland, FL (November 1, 2016) Eighteen cars were on hand for round 5 of the Racecar Engineering Wheel Man Sportsman Series at Citrus County Speedway this past Saturday night. It was another strong performance by the current points leader Sean Bass, who once again powered his way to victory lane. Unfortunately for Bass, his car did not pass post-race technical inspection, and Bobby Mobley was awarded his 1st Wheel Man Sportsman win. The victory secured the #29 5 Star Services, Mobley Racing team the 2016 Citrus County Speedway Sportsman Track Championship as well. Brooke Storer had another strong run finishing 2nd and closing the once perceived insurmountable points lead between herself and Bass to a mere 11 points. In only his 2nd appearance in the Series, Jessie Henley once again finished strong crossing the stripe in 3rd, while Jason Rendell rebounded after a couple of tough runs to finish 4th and give him a tight 2-point lead over Alexa Anderson in a 3rd place points battle. Brent Cooper, who started 8th, was able to avoid trouble and run with the leaders all night, rounding out the top 5.

Anthony LaPoint put on an awesome show to win the FLF Hard Charger Award bringing his 21L car to a 6th place finish after starting 17th. (more…)

It was an absolutely gorgeous day Sunday at Auburndale Speedway as the track hosted the season finale for the Sunoco Super Late Model Series and the fans were treated to a great race featuring former ‘legendary” drivers along with features in six other classes.

Qualifying for the Sunoco 100 presented by Speedway Auto Sales was held on Saturday with Jesse Dutilly of Bradenton setting the quick time with a lap of 13.404 seconds, nearly a tenth of a second faster than second qualifier Nick Neri’s lap of 14.499. Ellis jumped into the lead at the stop of the green flag and then had to work his way in and out of lapped traffic and also to survive several restarts due to caution flags. Midway through the race second place finisher Michael Page looked to have something for Ellis, but could never get around him to take over the top spot and finished second. Third place went to Hickman who tried to find something on the track but could not as he worked high and low but had no luck. Fourth place went to Jonathan Davenport driving Chris Stapleton Tony Stewart tribute car and fifth place went to Todd Morrow who rebounded for a top five finish after a bad couple races at East Alabama. The weather was cool but the action was hot Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway as the DeSoto-Auburndale Sportsman Series hit the track for their season finale, a 75-lap contest with double points on the line. A nice field of 22 cars signed in and was set by qualifying times set three weeks previous when their event fell victim to rain that fell just after intermission began.

Seventeen cars were at the track on 9/24 and two of those failed to show for this race. That meant there were seven cars that did not qualify for the rained out show and they had to start from the rear of the grid.
Junior Beckner and Jason Vail led the field to green with Vail leading the opening circuit before Beckner took control for four laps only to see George Gorham, Jr. blast by him on lap six for the point. Caution flew for the first time on lap nine for Tim Sozio’s spin in turn three with Dora Thorne also spinning and Jamie Kennedy coming to a quick halt to avoid everything. Kennedy’s quick stop damaged something in the driveline and he was pushed to the pits becoming the first car to retire from the fray. (more…)

U.S. District Court Dismisses Case of Suspended Dirt Late Model Dream Drivers

Drivers Can Return to Competition with Payment of Fines and Reinstatement of Suspended DIRTcar Membership

SuperDirtcar Series LogoCONCORD, N.C. – Oct. 18, 2016 – U.S. District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino today issued a stipulation of dismissal in the case of plaintiffs Scott Bloomquist, Gregg Satterlee, Jimmy Owens, and Ricky Thornton vs World Racing Group and subsidiary DIRTcar Racing, Eldora Speedway, and its owner Tony Stewart regarding suspension following tire analysis after Eldora Speedway’s Dirt Late Model Dream.

Drivers will be allowed to return to competition with payment of the fine and fees imposed, following a request for reinstatement of their suspended DIRTcar membership.

“We’re happy this is over,” said DIRTcar Racing COO Tom Deery. “It is a waste of resources that should have been invested in the sport rather than damaging it and polarizing fans.” (more…)

McDUFFIE IN CONTROL OF DARTS TRUCKS – GLEASON TAKES POPULAR LEGENDS WIN AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

auburndale-logoAfter a ‘forced” week off to dry out from Hurricane Matthew, Auburndale Speedway was back to business Saturday night with the Desoto-Auburndale Race Truck Series (DARTS) heading up a great night of racing action.

Michael Goddard of Naples took his “Gray Ghost” National Roofing Special around the track in 14.670 seconds to just edge Lakeland’s Cody McDuffie for fast time.  McDuffie circulated the “bullring” at 14.676 seconds with third quick time going to Cody Martell with a lap of 14.842 seconds.  Rounding out the top five in qualifying were Derek Pugh and point leader Becca Monopoli.

McDuffie drew a five for the inversion placing Monopoli on the pole for the 50-lap feature and she wasted little time building up a nice advantage over Pugh as Martell could not find the handle on his truck, backsliding from third to tenth in the first ten laps.  Fast qualifiers McDuffie and Goddard were on the charge moving around Pugh for second and third on the 11th circuit.

This race would not go all 50 laps under green like the last one as Mike Kohut spun off turn two just as the 14th lap was completed.  On the restart, it took McDuffie just one lap to slip by Monopoli for the top spot while Goddard would fall victim to a multi-truck mess in turn three on lap 17 that damaged his truck along with those of Tommy Kelly, Jason Lester and others.  McDuffie continued to set a blistering pace as the third yellow flag of the night was displayed for Martell who spun in turn four. SHEPPARD SENSATIONAL IN RHINO AG DIRT TRACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

2016news_10-15PORTSMOUTH, OH (October 15, 2016) – Brandon Sheppard charged from the 21st starting position to win his second career Dirt Track World Championship Race at Portsmouth Raceway Park on Saturday night. Sheppard earned a career-best $100,000 as he drove the Eric Brock-owned Best Performance Motorsports Team/Rocket Chassis to the victory.

Sheppard was third different leader of the event – taking over the top spot from Josh Richards on lap 72. Richards forged ahead again on lap 73 before Sheppard cleared Richards for good on lap 77, and never looked back in the final Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event of the season. Earl Pearson Jr. in the Dunn-Benson Ford/Lucas Oil Racing TV/Longhorn charged to second at the finish ahead of Richards, Gregg Satterlee, and Darrell Lanigan.

The 2016 LOLMDS National Champion, Scott Bloomquist, led the first 45 laps of the race until Richards passed him for the lead. Bloomquist, who came into the event seeking his third straight DTWC win at Portsmouth, fell to second and then six laps later yielded the spot to Sheppard.

Richards appeared to be pulling away from the field as he opened up his lead, but Sheppard slowly started to track down Richards and with 23 laps to go he had taken the lead away from him for the final time. (more…)
