BRENT HUBER CLAIMS CHARITY TRUCK 200 AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

brent-huber-with-his-kids-in-victory-lane-002The 11th Annual Joey Coulter Charity Race Weekend wrapped up on Sunday under overcast skies although the temperature was comfortable while the racing action was downright hot. The 200-lap Charity event for the Pro Trucks was competitive and interesting from start to finish and, when all was said and done, a new face graced victory lane for the event.
Ten O’Reilly Auto Parts caps were spread out during the driver’s meeting before the race and each driver from the top ten in Saturday’s qualifying picked a hat with the number inside indicating where they would start on the grid for the 200 lapper. Fast qualifier Michael Goddard chose to pick first and, as luck would have it, picked the hat with the number one meaning he would start from the pole. Jason Lester drew the hat with number two and would flank Goddard at the start on the front row while Tommy Kelly and Cody Martell made up row two.
After the on-track autograph session and pre-race ceremonies it was time to go racing with event Grand Marshal Dave Dion giving the command to fire the engines. Dion then joined flagman Julian Mullis and dropped the green flag for the race as pole sitter Goddard quickly streaked out to a nice lead. The race immediately began being a bit “chippy” with plenty of bumping, banging and “leaning” going on nearly each and every lap. (more…)

Devin Dixon Pockets $3,000 in Turkey Trot at North Florida

devin-dixon-112816-david-delgado-photo-002Ocala, Florida (11/28/16) – For the eighth time in 2016 Devin Dixon parked the Big Frog Motorsports #58 Dave’s Towing/Rocket XR-1 Late Model in victory lane. The $3,000 triumph came on Saturday night at North Florida Speedway.

Entering the Thanksgiving weekend special, Devin Dixon and the Big Frog Motorsports Team traveled to North Florida Speedway (Lake City, Florida) on Saturday night for the unsanctioned Turkey Trot. In a field of 14 Super Late Models, Dixon reeled in his eighth win of the season in the main event.

Battling for a $3,000 payday, Devin outdueled Adam Bedenbaugh to pick up the victory. Bedenbaugh, Bo Allen, Nevin Gainey, and Richard Ferry completed the Top 5 finishers in the 30-lap affair.

“We actually got a real good bite running low,” Dixon said. “I can’t say enough about this Big Frog Motorsports team. This is our eighth win and we’ve been hard on motors. But they never give up. This was a crate motor and we put it in to see what would happen and everything worked out nicely.” (more…)

11th ANNUAL JOEY COULTER CHARITY RACE WEEKEND IS JUST TWO WEEKS AWAY

cars-logoThe racing year of 2016 will wrap up in a big way in just a few short days as the 11th Annual Joey Coulter Charity Race Weekend takes place December 8-11.

The Pro Trucks will go back to run the original 200 lap format from the first event held in 2006 and, once again, Auburndale Speedway will play host to the event, donating the facility to the Cars Racing For a Cause charity that will be raising money for a record five families this year.  Since 2006, the charity has raised well over $320,000 for families who are dealing with the health issues of their loved ones, particularly children.

This year, money will be raised for the following: Avalynn Luciano who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia and is just 2 years old. – Six-year-old Ayden Henke who has a brain tumor that has caused him to go blind. His brother Jeremiah is ten years old and he also has special needs.

To make matters worse, this family recently lost their home in Ocala to fire and they are in the process of relocating and getting their lives back together – Reagan Monday is three years old and suffered severe head and brain damage when a dresser with a TV fell on her. Doctors continue to work with her as recovers from this traumatic injury – Alicia Hayes, a mother of two who has been going through treatments for Glioblastoma brain cancer and recently had brain surgery – Then finally, Marina Petty, a 17 year old with bone cancer in her leg. Saldana to Park It in 2017

Will drive the No. 17 for Matt Wood and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

111716_scs_saldanaCONCORD, N.C. – Nov. 28, 2016 – Joey Saldana is not only carrying on his family legacy into the 2017 racing season, but also living out the legacy left by the late Bryan Clauson. Saldana teamed up with Matt Wood and NASCAR star Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to pilot the Elk Grove Ford/ Roth Investments No. 17 racecar in the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series tour next season – an aspiration of Clauson’s since he first hopped into a 410 Sprint Car.

Saldana finished the 2016 season with Dennis Roth and Roth Motorsports amassing five wins, 31 top-five and 62 top-ten performances with 10 quick times in 81 points races. Saldana is nearing the 100-win milestone heading into his 18th consecutive season with the series; he stands at 99 wins, a mark that has taken the 1996 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year 19 seasons to build.

Saldana has finished within the top five in series championship point standings three of his last four seasons full-time. Roth Motorsports, which began its first World of Outlaw season in 1995, expected to carry its team’s momentum into the following season. However, a series of unfortunate events prompted Roth to take a step back and not field the No. 83 car in 2017. Saldana, 43, said he still has plenty of gas left in the tank but worried that this may have been “it.” (more…)

Engine Builder Removed From Spec Program After Governor’s Cup

NSS Logo SmallNovember 16, 2016 – Cope Engines and engine builder Jimmy Cope are no longer an approved engine builder for Florida spec engines following a discovery during this past weekend’s Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna Speedway (FL).

Chief Technical Inspector Ricky Brooks and officials from New Smyrna Speedway made the announcement on Wednesday, stating that one of the engines built by Cope Engines did not meet numerous requirement of the spec engine rulebook.

“We’re not playing games with any of those sealed motors; the main focus of this program is maintaining a level playing field,” Brooks said. “The engine builder asked me to compare my machine to his machine and then once that took place there were washers on the spark plugs to keep the compression down. It just went on from there and we ended up taking the motor, tearing it down and checking it.” (more…)
