(By Lance Jennings) MARCH 30, 2017… Running the outside line, “Sugar” Shane Golobic (Fremont, California) won last Saturday’s “Outlaw Showdown” at Placerville Speedway. Taking the lead from Ronnie Gardner on lap eighteen, Golobic earned his fourth career Light Up The World Beverages USAC Western States Midget triumph. Gardner, Cory Elliott, Courtney Crone, and Alex Schutte rounded out the top-five drivers.

Starting third, Shane Golobic gave chase after early leader Schutte and the second running Gardner. While both drivers favored the bottom line, Golobic powered Matt Wood’s #17G Elk Grove Ford / Competition Suspension Inc. Spike to the top spot running the top groove. Racing double duty with the World of Outlaw Sprints, the versatile driver earned $1,200 for his midget victory. Earlier in the program, Shane won the night’s Keizer Aluminum Wheels / Saldana Racing Products Heat Race #3 and qualified fourth out of eighteen racers in passing points. At press time. Golobic is tied for tenth in the point chase with Michael Faccinto.

After taking command from Schutte and leading five laps, Ronnie Gardner (Corona, California) had to settle for second at the checkered flags. Follow A Dream/Permatex TA/FC Team Overcomes Adversity to Start 2017 Season with Strong Effort

MARSTONS MILLS, Massachusetts (March 15, 2017) – Given the way the 2017 season began, the Follow A Dream/Permatex Top Alcohol Funny Car team has already gone through a season’s worth of adversity – and it’s full steam ahead from here.
Early last week en route to Gainesville Raceway in north central Florida, the team’s transporter broke down, forcing it to be towed about 50 miles to the track so that repairs could be made.

“The racetrack was great to let us get in after hours,” team owner Jay Blake said. “We appreciated that very much.”
Then, driver Phil Burkart was flying from New York to Florida when the airplane he was on experienced engine failure and had to make an emergency landing in Tennessee.

After Burkart made it to the drag strip, the race pack installed during the offseason on the team’s 2015 Chevrolet Camaro inexplicably broke, forcing team crew chief/tuner Anthony Terenzio to run the car without one of the most important things needed in drag racing: computer data.

“That was pure torture for Anthony,” Blake said. “Still, Anthony did a great job. He did it by feel, going in blind, really, and doing it the old fashioned way. “Anthony, Phil and everybody worked great together. We did it the old school way.” (more…)

WITH A REBEL YELL FASTRAK RETURNS TO SCREVEN ON JULY 22

CARNESVILLE, GA – The Fastrak Pro Late Model Southeast Tour will return to Screven Motorsports Complex in Sylvania, GA for the prestigious Rebel Yell Race on Saturday night, July 22. Screven Motorsports Park is one of the most unique racing facilities in the country for competitors and fans alike.

Screven Motorsports Complex is several racing facilities in one. For racing competitors, there is a 3/8-mile dirt track, a 1/8-mile drag strip, a clay Go-Kart track, and Mud Drags. For fans, in addition to the racing, there is a Star Stage with concerts, and a full service restaurant with a wide variety of choices on the menu, plus the regular race track cuisine.

For the Fastrak Pro Late Model Series, the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval just seems to bring out the best in the dirt late models powered by the economical 400 horsepower aluminum-head steel-block Chevrolet Performance Circle Track engines that are build and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications.

Along with the Fastrak brand Hoosier Tires, three-wide racing for the Fastrak Pro Late Model Series at Screven Motorsports Complex is the rule, rather than the exception. The fans get the best deal at Screven Motorsports Complex, as one ticket gives them access to all racing at all tracks, the concerts, and the restaurant.

“We were one of the first to run Fastrak and it’s great to have them back after all these years,” Screven Motorsports Complex Owner/Promoter Red Griffin said. “We feel their addition to the Rebel Yell will help us ramp up the entire weekend.” (more…)
