Dylan Colding Wins Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Sprint Feature At East Bay Raceway Park

GIBSONTON — At East Bay Raceway it was Brian Morgan winning in the Hobby Stocks, Cliff Evans in the Micro Sprints, Dylan Colding in the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Sprints, David Kelley in the Florida Old Time Modifeds and Andrew Hopkins in the Late Model Sportsman.

In the first feature of the night it was the Hobby Stock 15-lap event as Brian Morgan won with Jim Baker finishing second with Buck Woodhouse third.

In the Micro Sprints 15-lap feature it was Cliff Evans picking up his first feature win with a hard charging Joseph Taylor finishing second with Wade Evans third.

In the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Sprints it was the 2016 defending Champion Dylan Colding picking up his first win of the year with Guy Bos second and Clint Reynolds third.

In the Florida Old Time Modifieds 12-lap feature it was David Kelley picking up the win over Dan Darnell second and Tom McDonald third. (more…)

EASTER BASH AND SSCS DOUBLEHEADER SATURDAY NIGHT AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

After two weeks away from stock car racing action due to the Night of Destruction and the time needed to clean up after it, Auburndale Speedway gets it’s season into high gear starting this Saturday night. The Sunshine State Challenge Series has a pair of 50-lap contests on tap for the Open Wheel Modifieds and the Street Stocks plus the Mini Stocks and Scramblers will also see action.

Along with the racing, there will be a huge “Easter Bash.” This big Easter egg and prize hunt will take place at intermission when track officials and a bevy of volunteers lay out the prizes and eggs on the track and in the infield. Once the goodies are set out, the younger kids aged 7 and under will go with their parents to one area to do their hunt. They will be given a set time to collect all they can and then the kids aged 8-12 will be given a set time to go through all that remains on the track. The children will be asked to be on their best behavior, though, as the speedway will not allow any running, pushing etc. If any child becomes unruly, track officials will ask them to stop collecting and go back to stands with their parents as the speedway wants everyone to have a good, yet safe, fun time. After the “hunting” concludes, track workers will clean up everything that remains quickly so racing can be resumed in a timely manner. (more…)

Strongest Field In Years Set To Tackle Hickory’s Easter Bunny 150 This Weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC (April 11) – The best short track racers from across North America will once again be descending on Hickory Motor Speedway this weekend as they seek to claim the checkered flag in the 12th Annual Easter Bunny 150. Super Late Model racers have flocked to the legendary speedway nestled in the North Carolina Piedmont since 2006. The “Bunny” has become an Easter weekend tradition for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models and this year’s race has added importance. In addition to being part of the PASS National Championship Series, the Easter Bunny 150 will serve as a major tune up for November’s Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown 300, which will pay $15,000 to the winner. Likewise, fans of short track racing recognize the Easter Bunny 150 as one of the sport’s premier races, thanks in large part to the star-studded field of drivers the event attracts year after year.
Names like Rowe, Lawler, Williams, Naase, Grissom, and Shaw have all visited victory lane in the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory. And, only former national champions, Ben Rowe and Preston Peltier, have achieved victory in racing’s ultimate Easter egg hunt more than once. Casey Roberts Still On Top With Southern All Stars

COCHRAN, GA-Casey Roberts of Toccoa, GA., paid visit number three to Southern All Star victory lane in 2017 as he moved under Travis Pennington on lap 31 who was slowed by a lapped car to get his 12th career win with the series and also pad his points lead over second place Bo Shirley. Pennington in his first start with the series in 2017 led the first half of the event as he and Roberts swapped the lead back and forth several times. Pennington then made one last run at Roberts on the last restart but he had to contend with a late race challenge from Michael Page to hang on to second, third went to Page who worked the high side most of the night, fourth place went to Austin Horton of Newnan, GA., who had his best run so far with the series this season and it moved him into the third spot on the points standings and finishing fifth was 2008 Southern All Star Rookie of the Year Jason Fitzgerald of Jacksonville, FL., who rode the high side all night but could never get the traction he needed to advance further.

RACE TIDBITS: Ivedent Lloyd had an impressive run from 24th to 11th; Clint Smith rolled his car in qualifying, then drove back on track qualified it then had to bring out back up car, only to end his night with broke driveshaft; Hunter Peacock broke a motor in qualifying; 2004 Southern All Star Champion Shane Tankersley made his first appearance again with the series after being off for 13 years. Kyle Bronson Picks Up Second Guitar In Scott Thompson Memorial 50-Lap Feature At East Bay Raceway Park

GIBSONTON — At East Bay Raceway it was Kyle Bronson picking up the win in the 50-lap Scott Thompson Memorial for the Late Models. Also winning was Jon Basquin in the V8 Warriors, Kenny Brewer in the Florida Mini Sprints Action Series and Thomas Adams in the 4 Cylinder Bombers.

In the first feature of the night it was V8 Warriors in their 15-lap event with Jon Basquin picking up the win holding off Jason Burnside for second and Justin Rodgers for third.

In the Florida Mini Sprint Action Series it was Kenny Brewer picking up his very first win at East Bay Raceway Park holding off Zak Gorski for second and Russ Heider for third.

In the Scott Thompson Memorial Late Model 50-lap feature it was Kyle Bronson picking up the win and his second guitar trophy. Coming home in the second spot was Keith Nosbisch and Doug Horton for third. (pending tire samples)

In the 4 Cylinder Bombers 15-lap feature it was Thomas Adams bringing home his second win of the year over second place Robert Kissam and third place David Wilber. (more…)

MCCREADIE WINS BAD BOY 98 AT BATESVILLE MOTOR SPEEDWAY

LOCUST GROVE, AR (April 8, 2017) – Tim McCreadie held off Scott Bloomquist to win the Bad Boy 98 on Saturday night at the Batesville Motor Speedway. McCreadie and his Sweeteners Plus, Pro Power Racing Engines, Longhorn Chassis earned $20,000 for the victory in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and COMP Cams Super Dirt Series co-sanctioned event.

McCreadie bolted to the lead at the start of the 98-lap main event and held off several challengers for his second LOLMDS win of the season. Bloomquist started ninth and finished second, followed by 14th starting Shannon Babb in the Donley Trucking, Petroff Towing, Rocket Chassis. Josh Richards’ Best Performance Motorsports, Dargie Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis came home in fourth. Don O’Neal’s Clint Bowyer Racing, Peak Antifreeze and Coolant, Club 29 completed the top five.

“I want to thank the fans for coming out tonight. I hope we put on a good show for them. It’s not the Topless 100, but it feels just as good to win this race. I am a little speed sensitive. The car felt good in clean air. I just didn’t know where to be. I am glad I had Phillip [Snellen], my crew chief down there helping me out by giving me signals. I got lost out there a little bit just running the top. Then I went back to the middle,” said McCreadie in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. (more…)

DAVENPORT RETURNS TO ROOTS FOR FASTRAK VMS KING OF THE COMMONWEALTH WIN

JAMAICA, VA – Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA returned to his dirt late model roots Saturday night and won the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth 40 for the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series at Virginia Motor Speedway. Davenport began his dirt late model racing career with the FASTRAK Series, and has since gone on to superstardom in the sport.

After starting on the outside of the front row for the main event, Davenport took the lead and never looked back. The driver known as “Superman” led all 40 laps for the win driving the C&H Paving Barry Wright “House Car.”

“We’re off to a good start this year with our Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engine program, as we’re three for three so far this season,” Davenport said. “Now, if we could just get some of that success to rub off on our super late model program we would be in good shape.”

The win was worth $3,000 to Davenport, who took the checkered flag with a 2.896 second margin of victory over Tyler Bare of Rockridge Baths, VA in the Bluegrass Farms Rocket. Bare was the Fast Qualifier among the 32 entrants with a lap around the ½-mile clay oval in 18.810 seconds to earn $200 from M&W Transport and Towing. (more…)

Kenny Collins Captures Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Series Victory at I-75 Raceway

(Story by Michael Despain) Sweetwater, TN (April 8, 2017)- The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series Super Late Model visited I-75 Raceway for the track’s first-ever Super Late Model event and Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga. would etch his name in the record book as the winner of the 30 lap, $3,000 to win event.

Collins would sweep the evening’s activities as he would also be the top qualifier and he would lead all 30 circuits of the main event to score the victory in his Dockery Specialized Transport/Southeast Miscellaneous Erectors/Jake’s Drywall/Collins Signs/Thomas Clarke Performance/Erwin Racing Supply/Kenny Harris Grading sponsored Longhorn entry. Collins’ victory also came on American Racer Tires.

Kenny Collins would take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Carder Miller, David Payne, Ray Cook, and Billy Ogle, Jr. giving chase. The action would slow quickly though as Craig Greer and Brian Selby would tangle in turn one on lap 2. The restart would see Payne challenge Miller immediately for the second position, with Payne able to work past Miller for the position on lap 3. Meanwhile, Ogle, Jr. would challenge Cook for fourth position, but mechanical gremlins would strike Cook as he would slow on the backchute and stop in turn four to draw a caution flag on lap 4. OVERTON WINS $20K IN VMS KING OF THE COMMONWEALTH FOR ULTIMATE SLMS

JAMAICA, VA – Brandon Overton of Evans, GA drove to his second straight ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series South East Region win on Saturday night and pocketed $20,000 in the Aaron’s King of Commonwealth at Virginia Motor Speedway. Overton battled with Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA early and often before taking the lead for good on lap 28 of the 60-lap race.

Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA was strong in the second half of the race, and finished second. The ride of the night belonged to Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN, who pitted under caution on lap three with what he thought was an engine problem. His crew found everything under the hood O.K., and sent their driver back out on the track to restart the race in the 24th and last spot.

Marlar was the fastest car on the track and he blazed a path through the field, but fell two spots short of victory and salvaged a third-place finish. Davenport led 20 laps of the race in a back and forth battle for the lead with Overton, and ended up fourth at the checkered flag.

Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC was fifth after topping the 34-car field in Qualifying with a lap around the ½-mile clay oval in 17.580 seconds. That earned Madden the $400 Fast Time Award from M&W Transport and Towing. Austin Hubbard finished sixth and Rick Eckert of York, PA took the seventh spot.

Matt Cosner came home in the eighth position, and ninth went to Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, NC. Dale Hollidge rounded out the top ten, and was the Keyser Manufacturing Hard Charger of the Race Award winner after starting 17th.

The win was the second straight ULTIMATE SE win for Overton, who also won the season opener on March 4 at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA. In preliminary action on Saturday night, the four eight-lap Heat Races were won by Overton, Davenport, Madden and Marlar. The two ten-lap B-Main races were won by Hollidge and Nick Davis.

After starting on the outside of the front row, Davenport took the lead from polesitter Overton with a crossover move to the inside coming off the second turn on the first lap that saw Marlar, Madden and Hubbard in third through fifth respectively.

One crossover move is worth another, as Overton returned the favor on Davenport to take the lead on lap two, as McDowell got by Hubbard for the fifth spot. The caution flag was unfurled for the first time on lap three when 2016 ULTIMATE SE Rookie of the Year Glenn Elliott spun in turn four. Marlar gave up the third spot on the track to pit under caution.

The double-file restart saw Overton leading Davenport, Madden, McDowell, and Hubbard. When the green bulb was fired up, Hubbard was on the move, as he passed McDowell for fourth on the restart, and then got around Madden for third on lap four. The fifth lap saw Davenport pull alongside Overton to battle for the lead.

Overton pulled in front of Davenport on lap seven, and Madden worked his way back around Hubbard for the third spot. Davenport made an inside move on Overton coming off the fourth turn on lap nine to take the lead. Hubbard and Madden were still contesting the third spot, with Hubbard reclaiming the position on the 11th lap.

Davenport reached the cars on the tail end of the lead lap on lap 13, and McDowell got around Madden to take the fourth spot on lap 15. Overton chased down Davenport in lapped traffic, and began to challenge for the lead on lap 20. McDowell and Madden got by Hubbard to move up to third and fourth respectively on lap 20.

Davenport was able to keep Overton behind him in lapped traffic, but once they had clear race track in front of them, Overton dove to the inside going into turn three on lap 28 to take the lead from Davenport. McDowell then closed on Davenport and they raced side-by-side for second on lap 30. Elliott brought out the caution flag for a second time on lap 32 to bunch up the field for a restart.

The double-file restart saw Overton leading Davenport, McDowell, Madden, Hubbard, Jason Covert, Ferguson, Eckert, Tyler Millwood, and Ross Robinson in second through tenth respectively. McDowell passed Davenport for second on the restart, with Ferguson bolting into the fifth spot. Marlar came from out of nowhere to take over the sixth spot.

By lap 35, Overton had pulled out to a half straightaway lead over McDowell. Marlar moved into the top five again on lap 38 when he got around Ferguson. The final caution flag of the race came out on lap 44 for debris in turn four. Overton led McDowell, Davenport, Marlar, Madden, Ferguson and Hubbard double-file back to the green flag.

Marlar passed Davenport for the third spot on lap 45, and with ten laps to go, Overton had once again opened up a half straightaway lead over McDowell. Overton found himself in lapped traffic on lap 53.

Overton had increased his lead over McDowell to a full straightaway on lap 55. At the checkered flag, Overton was out of sight of McDowell and took the checkered flag with a 4.175 second margin of victory. The next race for the ULTIMATE SE Super Late Model Series will be the $5,022-to-win Jack Starrette Memorial Race at Modoc Speedway in Modoc, SC on April 15.

BENJI HICKS WINS FASTRAK SE SEASON OPENER AT TOCCOA RACEWAY

TOCCOA, GA – Benji Hicks of Mt. Airy, NC drove the T&K Enterprises Rocket to a $2,000 victory on Saturday night in the 40-lap 2017 season opener for the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series South East Region at Toccoa Raceway. Hicks was the Group 1 Fast Qualifier with a time of 13.090 seconds, the first ten-lap Heat Race winner, and led all 40 laps of the main event to get the sweep.

Hicks had to hold off the defending FASTRAK SE Champion Cla Knight of North Augusta, SC to post the win. Knight had to settle for second in the Augusta Aquatics Longhorn. Colby Cannon took the third spot, and Kenny Collins of Colbert, GA drove to a fourth-place finish.

Forrest Trent of Talbott, TN finished fifth in the Service 101 Rocket. Trent was the overall Fast Qualifier of the event, topping Group 2 qualifiers with a lap around Toccoa Raceway in 12.953 seconds. Trent followed that up with a victory in the second ten-lap Heat Race to earn the outside front row starting spot for the 40-lap Main Event.

Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, TN was sixth in the Tim Byrd Motorsports TNT, and Tyler Arrington of Rural Retreat, VA took the seventh spot. Ron Parker of Belwood, NC drove the Schaefer Oil Rocket to an eighth-place finish, and Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA finished ninth in the Jessica Cornett Racing Mastersbilt.
