Clear, All Clear

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

The RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators were all set to take to the track and they all gave it their best. Of course, points are on the line and every driver wants to be part of the battle.

The Barrett’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks had 21 show up and they all put on a fantastic battle. Chad Scranton started on the pole and pulled away at the start. On lap 6 Cory Hupp, Heat race winner, slowed in turn 2 causing a chain reaction in which Steve Osteen slowed and Phil Brown did as well. Osteen and Brown made contact and Brown hit the tire and flipped his #13. Brown was okay after the accident. Under the red flag the points leader and 2nd place driver, Tim Powers, pitted meaning he’d have to drive the 44 back through the field. The green flag fell again and the final 14 were caution free. Chad Scranton made it 3-for-3 as he’s missed a few races in 2011 while Kevin Durden had to settle for 2nd. Brett Barrett put his 109 in 3rd with a fantastic run and Tim Powers salvaged some points with 4th, his worst finish of 2011. Jeff Rodgers rounded out the top 5. Buck Woodhouse had a calm night with 6th the result, Joe Belkey was 7th, Joe Boyd a quiet 8th, Devin Walker did an impressive job for 9th, and James Erickson steadily moved up the grid for a top 10. Repeat Winners Dominate East Bay Action

Sept. 10, 2011 – The fall portion of the East Bay Raceway Park 2011 racing season got into full swing as Mother Nature took a night off from pestering outdoor activity. The result was a perfect night for exciting racing action and the competitors were glad to oblige.
The night opened with a pair of outlaw 4 heat races, won by Stephen Hohlbaugh and point leader Nick Hebrank. For the 15-lap main, Hebrank grabbed the early lead, but spun on the second lap. That mishap gave the lead to Kyle Kruse who kept it for a few laps before a strong run by Jesse Brown put the three-time feature win into the lead. Brown had company with Shirlene Hammond, who swept past on a restart. All was going well for Hammond until she spun in turn two on lap 11. Fortunately, a caution came out for Megan Rae, resetting the field to the last completed lap. Hammond was able to keep the point to the checkered to claim her second East Bay win of the season. “This car has been in seven features and led all seven,” she said about the ride that is nicknamed White Lightnin’. “It has won five of those races.” Brown was able to stay second with Billy Howard, Eric Knight and Kyle Worden trailing. Auburndale Speedway, friends & family of Bryan Wescott, Sr. present one of the biggest Super Late Model events of the year – The Bryan Wescott Sr. Memorial 100

Auburndale Speedway, FL (Saturday, September 24, 2011) – Please plan to join us as Auburndale Speedway, family and friends of Bryan K. Wescott, Sr. celebrate his life by hosting the Bryan Wescott Sr. Memorial 100 for Super Late Models this coming September 24th., 2011.

As many may remember Bryan built and successfully campaigned first a Sportsman car then his Late Model #3 (usually the roman numeral #III) on the short tracks of mid-west Florida for many years until his tragic accident at Sunshine Speedway on August 16, 1986, which ended his racing career.

Bryan passed away from a heat-stroke he suffered 15-years later on August 30th, 2001, at the young age of 41 while working at his job. Married to wife Jackie in 1982, Bryan left behind four wonderful children, Bryan Jr., Bryana, Blake and Brittney Wescott. Those that knew Bryan personally will agree that not only was he a good shoe in a Late Model but you could not find a more dedicated Husband, Father, Son, Brother, or friend.

This event marks the tenth anniversary of Bryan’s untimely passing. Bryan’s talented daughter Bryana, a graduate of Clearwater Christian College with a major in Music Education will be singing the National Anthem in honor of her father’s memorial race so needless to say it will be an emotional moment for her.

Auburndale Speedway, family and friends of Bryan have strived to put together what should be one of the biggest Super Late Model events of the year in the State of Florida with a payout expected to attract an impressive list of the big guns in the class.

24 Late Model hot shoes will be racing for the $5,000 to win, $3,000 for second place and $1,500 for third place with a graduating purse totaling $17,750. (more…)

9/11 Tribute night at The Hendry County Motorsports Park

Its hard to believe that it has been 10 years since our way of life as Americans was turned upside down in one of the darkest days in our history, September 11,2001. It was any day like any other day. Normal folks just like you and your Neighbors going to work ,taking the kids to school, firemen, police, EMS, just normal everyday folks. In one split second every person in our nation became one. As we stopped and watched or listened to the events of that September morning unfold, we saw these every day people, the firemen, police, and EMS personal go into the buildings and never come out. Why? They knew the danger. Why did they go in. Because that’s what they do, and they do it selflessly. They never thought twice. They knew that their friends, neighbors, and complete strangers needed them and they were there for them. As the days have now turned into years we will never forget. (more…)

Honor The Fallen

By Jimmy Rouse- Bubba Raceway Park Media

This Saturday we race in remembrance of those fallen 10 years ago on that fateful day in New York. The RaceCar Engineering Late Models return to action, as do the Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators for Double Points and a $300 payday. With tights points battles and many winners the unexpected is all that can be expected.

Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. hasn’t won a Bubba Raceway Park championship since 1993, but he currently holds a 33 point lead over Dillon Wood. Wood, a rookie this season, has impressed with his consistency. Wood will need some luck in both directions for a chance at the lead. Augie Burttram’s 58 is in 3rd but has a long chase ahead of him. Mark Whitener is still not allowed on the property, but Augie, also unallowed, had Donnie Chappell in the 58 last time out. Christian Augspurger is 4th and hopes to take another win by the end of 2011. Bo Allen is in the same boat as Burttram and Whitener so he had friend Richard Ferry drive the 71 last time. Ferry gave it a good run until some trouble came and should be back out again. Johnny Collins has had some tough luck at Bubba Raceway Park and will hope to take his 5 to the front and throw the monkey off of his back. Austin Kirkpatrick and Tyler Ivey are 7th and 8th and will need wins to keep them in the chase. Both, however, know how to win as they’ve done it in 2011. The 2009 champion JO Nobles and Shan Smith round out the top 10. (more…)
