Bergakker Tops Klash Practice, 42 Cars Entered for Wednesday

KALAMAZOO, MI — Brian Bergakker was the quickest of the 29 Outlaw Super Late Models that participated in testing for Wednesday’s 25th annual Kalamazoo Klash Presented by the West Michigan Toyota Dealers. Bergakker ran a lap of 12.257 seconds at 110.141mph. 2015 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch was second ahead of Brandon Lyons, Tyler Roahrig and former Klash winner Steve Needles. Harold Fair Jr. led the second half of the top ten followed by John Long, former track champion Phil Bozell, current point leader Mark Shook and Doug True.

In the ARCA/CRA Super Series test session Johnny VanDoorn was the fastest with a lap of 12.944 seconds at 104.295mph. Travis Braden was second quickest ahead of Brian Campbell, Kyle Busch and Chase Purdy. Carson Hocevar was sixth fastest beating out Raphael Lessard, Dalton Armstrong, Logan Runyon and Boris Jurkovik.

Wednesday, August 18 the biggest event of the season takes place with the running of the 25th annual Kalamazoo Klash Presented by the West Michigan Toyota Dealers. 42 Outlaw Super Late Models are currently registered to take part in the event known as the #1 Outlaw Super Late Model race in the country. 2015 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch. Drivers expected to challenge Busch for the victory include former Klash winners Steve Needles, Phil Bozell, Andy Bozell and Jeff Ganus in addition to several others looking to pick up their first career Klash win. In addition to the Outlaw Super Late Models, the ARCA/CRA Super Series will also be on hand. That entry list also includes Busch as well as several other heavy hitters.

Monopolizing Half-Miles

CONCORD, NC— Aug. 8, 2017— Two back-to-back shootouts at half-mile dirt ovals await the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series at Georgetown Speedway on Aug. 17 and Port Royal Speedway on Aug. 19.

Known as a king of half-miles, Rick Eckert will be looking to piggy-back off of his recent success at Shawano Speedway, where he led flag-to-flag to claim his second Series win in a dominating performance over a hard-charging Chris Madden and Don O’Neal.

While Eckert’s momentum didn’t continue into USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway, he will surely look to revive his fortune in the upcoming Series races. The Outlaws’ first-ever visit to Georgetown Speedway will feature 40 laps and a $10,000 payday, followed by the Series’ return to Port Royal Speedway for the first time in a decade with 50 laps and $10,000 to win.

Both tracks are familiar territory for the Series veteran from York, PA. Eckert claimed a victory at Port Royal Speedway with the Lucas Oil Late Model Series earlier this season. Furthermore, Eckert finished second after a last-lap pass by regional racer Dale Hollidge during a 2016 Ultimate Super Late Model Series event at Georgetown Speedway.

Matt Sheppard Scores First Career Ransomville Win at Summer Nationals

Extends Series Win Streak to Three Races

RANSOMVILLE, NY – August 8, 2017 – Matt Sheppard was the third and final leader after he took the point position from Billy Decker on lap 49 and led the remaining 52 laps to win his third straight Super DIRTcar Series race in the 33rd Summer Nationals at Ransomville Speedway on Tuesday night. The victory was also Sheppard’s first career win at Ransomville and prevented rival Stewart Friesen from winning the event for the third straight year at his childhood track.

“I’ve won a lot of races at a lot of different racetracks, but Ransomville was never one of them,” Sheppard said in Victory Lane. “We were so close last year. Me and Stewie (Friesen) had a heck of a battle (last year). It just feels great to finally get to Victory Lane here, especially in such a special event.”

Billy Decker threw everything he had at Sheppard to try and retake the lead off the final restart with five laps to go, but fell 0.923 seconds short of a victory. Decker did manage to win an extended battle with Larry Wight to extend his point lead, which was just two markers entering the event. Ransomville regular Erick Rudolph and Stewart Friesen rounded out the top-five.

“Certainly, you like to win, but we’ll take it,” Decker said. “The Page Trucking car was pretty good. (I was ) dicing it out there heavy in lapped traffic. That was getting dicey, I’ll tell ya. The fans saw a pretty good race out there. We’ll take it.”

The 100-lap race began with local pilot Kenny Wills III on the pole and Jimmy Phelps to his outside. Phelps led the opening lap and paced the field through a trio of cautions in the first 30 laps before Decker made his bid for the top spot. Decker seized a lap 32 opportunity when Phelps bobbled on the cushion in turn two, allowing the No.91 to race to the bottom of the track and take the lead.

It was brief, however, as Phelps retook the point the following lap, but remained under siege from Decker until the two drivers exchanged the lead again on laps 38 and 39. On lap 40, Sheppard got past Phelps for second and set out to track down Decker.

The caution waved again on lap 41 when Keith Flach slowed in turn four. When the race resumed on lap 47, Friesen jumped to third while Sheppard continued to pressure Decker. On lap 49, Sheppard made the decisive move of the race when he drove under Decker in turn four to claim the lead.

Over the final 52 laps, Sheppard pounded his No.9s against the cushion in turns one and two, but tried both the inside and outside lanes in turns three and four as he navigated through the traffic.

“It was a fine line up on the wall,” Sheppard said. “It was a little closer to the wall than I like to run, but that’s just part of the deal here at Ransomville. I’m just very fortunate. A lot of people got messed up on the bottom on restarts early, but my car was good enough early I could maintain and not lose any spots. It seemed like the longer the race went, the better we got.”

Wight jumped into the top-three off a lap 62 restart and then spent the better part of the final 35 laps dueling side-by-side with Decker for second. Wight lost the battle on lap 86 when he went off the track in turn two trying to avoid contact with a lapped car. It was the second time in the race Wight had to take evasive action to quickly avoid serious problems. Earlier in the race, he hit the outside wall and all but destroyed the body on the right side of the car. Regardless, Wight was happy with the run.

“We’re happy with it,” Wight said. “That’s just sheet metal. The main components of the car were fine and the car still handled alright. We can bang that out and patch it up for tomorrow and give it another run.”

Sheppard was able to outpace Decker in clean air over the final 10 laps, but restarts on laps 93 and 95 forced him to hit his marks as Decker lurked within five car lengths each time.

Wight was the race’s KSE Hard Charger, advancing seven positions from 10th to 3rd. Decker was the Fast Qualifier with a lap of 16.151 seconds around the 3/8-mile oval. Decker, Wight Sheppard and Max McLaughlin claimed heat race wins. McLaughlin was also the recipient of the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck Award after a he slowed on lap 57. He was able to race his way back to 14th, but lost out on a top-10 finish.

Ransomville’s 358 Modified weekly points leader Ryan Susice won the Last Chance Qualifier. McLaughlin and Mike Mahaney were eligible for the 811 Dig Safely New York redraw bonus award if either could win from the eighth or eleventh starting positions, but were unsuccessful.

The Super DIRTcar Series returns to action on Wednesday, August 9 at Merrittville Speedway for the rescheduled Bob St. Amand Memorial 100. Race time is 7:00pm with Hot Laps and qualfiying taking place beforehand at 6:15pm. For additional event information, visit www.merrittvillespeedway.com.

DIRTcar 358 Modified Series Starts Off at Autodrome Granby on August 11

GRANBY, QC – August 9, 2017 – The DIRTcar 358 Modified Series will kickoff a busy three month schedule with the initial round of action at Autodrome Granby on Friday, August 11. Some of the best 358 Modified drivers will be in the hunt to win the coveted championship that includes 11 venues in total.

Autodrome Granby promoter Dominic Lussier is excited to host the Series opener for the first time.

“I am excited to host the first race of the series this season,” said Lussie, who worked closely with the promotional team at Mohawk International Raceway to schedule the race. “This means that we will have many outsiders visiting us. John Lazore and I talked about this event and we made an agreement. Mohawk is having a remake for a 50-lap event on Thursday and then our race on Friday. If a driver is able to win both, he will get an extra $1,000. I think it is a great incentive to have more drivers in the pits for both nights.”

After Granby, the Series will have a busy month of September starting off at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, September 3 before the Series makes its return to Can-Am Motorsports Park on Saturday, September 9. The following weekend, the drivers will head to Mohawk Speedway on Friday, September 15. Then, it will be two consecutive nights in Quebec with stops at RPM Speedway on September 22 and the following night at Autodrome Drummond on September 23.

Drivers will then have two weeks to prepare for Super DIRT Week with four races scheduled during the exciting week of racing. Utica-Rome Speedway will kick-off Super Week activities on Tuesday, October 3. The Series then moves to Weedsport on October 4 and Brewerton on Thursday, October 5 and capping off at Oswego Speedway on October 7. The champion will be crowned the following week at Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday, October 14th.

Defending Series champion Chris Raabe will lead a group of drivers that includes Joey Ladouceur, Brian McDonald, Carey Terrance, Jordan McCreadie, Gage Morin and Luke Whitteker to Granby for the opening round. Local runners David Hebert, Steve Bernard, Mario Clair, Steve and Francois Bernier will be waiting for the challenge in the Lussier & Granby Chevrolet 100. A strong result in the opening race will be key for the drivers to build momentum for the opening round. Mohawk high points leader and Super DIRTcar Series Star Tim Fuller is also penciled-in to compete at Granby along with Danny Johnson, adding to a star studded field of cars.

Racing at Granby is scheduled to start at 7:00pm on Friday, August 11. Expect a full pit area as the first round of the DIRTcar Sportsman tour’s Northern Region will also be on hand for a 50-lap event. For more information and ticket purchase, please visit the website at www.autodromegranby.com.

FASTRAK $2.500-TO-WIN LITTLE GENERAL STORES 40 THIS SATURDAY AT PRINCETON

CARNESVILLE, GA – The FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series will compete in the third Jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown this Saturday night with the $2,500-to-win, $250-to-start Little General Stores 40 at Princeton Speedway in Princeton, WV. Tyler Bare of Rockridge Baths, VA leads the Triple Crown point standings.

Here’s the complete payout for the Saturday night Little General Stores 40 at Princeton Speedway: 1. $2,000; 2. $1,000; 3. $700; 4. $600; 5. $500; 6. $450; 7. $400; 8. $375; 9. $350; 10. $325; 11. $315; 12. $300; 13. $275; 14. $265; 15. $250; 16. $250; 17. $250; 18. $250; 19. $250; 20. $250; 21. $250; 22. $250; 23. $250; 24. $250.

The final Jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown will feature three tight point battles that include the Triple Crown points, the FASTRAK South East Region points, and the FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Region points. Just 11 points separate the top five in the Triple Crown points, and only 18 points separate the top five drivers in the FASTRAK SE points chase.

Bare leads both the Triple Crown and the FASTRAK MOV point standings. Bare has 67 Triple Crown points and is fresh off a victory in the second Jewel of the Triple Crown last Saturday night at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA. The second-generation driver holds a three-point advantage over former FASTRAK Champion Ron Parker of Belwood, NC, who has 64 points.

Benji Hicks of Mt. Airy, NC and Brent Hilton of Rural Retreat, VA are tied for the third spot in the Triple Crown standings with 60 points apiece. The current FASTRAK SE point leader Matthew Nance of Ronda, NC is fifth in the Triple Crown standings with 56 points.

Nance is the first driver during the 2017 season to hold the FASTRAK SE point lead after two straight races. Nance, who has 241 points, has used three top four finishes in his last three starts to sit on top of the points list with a win, a second-place effort, and a fourth-place showing.

Parker is currently second in the FASTRAK SE points chase in his quest for a second championship. Parker has 235 points, just six points behind Nance. While Parker is only driver in the top five of the point standings to have not yet held the top spot, he has been consistent with a pair of third-place finishes in his last three races.

Hicks is third in the FASTRAK SE standings with 231 points. Hicks is the only driver with two FASTRAK wins this season and has been in the Championship hunt since winning the season opener on April 1 at Toccoa Raceway in Toccoa, GA.

Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, TN is fourth in the FASTRAK SE standings with 225 points and one win this season on June 17 at Toccoa Raceway. Ford is trying to recover from a couple of hard luck races where he was involved in accidents not of his own making.

The defending FASTRAK SE Champion Cla Knight of North Augusta, SC is fifth in the standings with 223 points and one win this season on July 22 at Screven Motorsports Complex in Sylvania, GA. Knight didn’t really hit his stride until Labor Day Weekend of last season, so he is still a legitimate title contender.

Bare leads the FASTRAK MOV standings with 133 points. The battle for second is tight with just three points separating four drivers. Parker is second with 115 points and Hicks is tied with Nance for the third spot with 114 points apiece. Ford is fifth with 112 points.

Also expected for the FASTRAK Little General Stores 40 this Saturday night at Princeton Speedway will be the defending FASTRAK Triple Crown Champion Ross Bailes of Clover, SC and the FASTRAK SE Futures Cup point leader 18-year-old Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA. The FASTRAK Futures Cup is a point fund for FASTRAK drivers under the age of 20 at the start of the season.

At the conclusion of the Little General Stores 40, the 2017 FASTRAK Triple Crown Champion will be honored in Victory Lane in a special ceremony where he will be Crowned, Draped with a Robe, and handed a Scepter.

The winner of the Little General Stores 40 will be a Guaranteed Starter in the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series 40-lap $3,000-to-win, $229-to-start Lewis Automotive/Little General Stores 7th Annual UBB 29 Miners Memorial Race at Princeton Speedway on August 12.

On Saturday at Princeton Speedway, gates open at 4:30 p.m., with FASTRAK Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:45 p.m. with Hot Laps and Racing to follow.

Braden Makes it Two in a Row with the Win at Kil-Kare Sunday

Salem, IN (July 31, 2017) – Two time ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS Champion Travis Braden got his second straight ARCA/CRA Super Series win of the 2017 season in Sunday’s Rapid Fire Pizza 125 Presented by Hot Head Burritos at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia, Ohio, just outside of Dayton. Braden picked up his first win of the season with the series on July 21st at Lucas Oil Raceway. Braden competed weekly at Kil-Kare back when it conducted weekly events, and won the first ever ARCA/CRA Super Series event at Kil-Kare back in 2013. Braden was happy to get back to victory lane in the series first visit to Kil-Kare since the 2014 season.

“It feels really good to get back to back wins with this series,” remarked Braden. “This is one of my home tracks, it always feels good to get to victory lane here. We expect to perform well when we race here, and that’s what happened today. Got to thank my whole crew and my owners Myna and Bill Burba, without them I wouldn’t be in victory lane today!”

Series points leader Josh Brock grabbed the early lead from his pole starting position after EDCO Welding Fast Qualifier Justin Alsip drew an eight for the events inverted start. Brock was able to pull away from outside front row starter Greg Stapleton.

2014 series Kil-Kare winner Brandon Oakley quickly got by Stapleton and set his sights on running down Brock. Oakley powered by Brock to grab the lead on lap five and immediately started to pull away from the field.

Braden started patiently working his way through the field from his seventh place starting position to move into second and set his sights on running down Oakley. Braden was able to close on Oakley while the two threaded their way through lap traffic. Oakley got stuck behind the last cars on the lead lap, who were battling for position themselves. Braden made a quick move to the inside to get by Oakley and a couple of cars battling for position to grab the lead on lap 64, earning the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award. Braden and Oakley made some contact, but both drivers gathered in their cars and continued to race without incident.

Things came to a screeching halt on lap 71 when Cody Robinson’s machine went up in flames from a blown engine, bringing out the events first caution and eventual red flag for an extended clean-up of oil on the track. Robinson managed to get out of his burning car without incident as the track safety crew quickly extinguished the flames.

The field went back green for only one lap before the second caution flew for a spin by Oakley while battling for second with David Carter. Stapleton and Hunter Jack spun after the caution flew. Oakley and Stapleton were able to continue but Jack’s day was over.

Braden kept the lead over Carter on the lap 73 restart, quickly pulling away for a sizable lead over Carter. The race went all the way to checkers from that point with Braden getting the win. Braden picked up a Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award for his win coming from his seventh place starting position.

Carter would finish in second, his best ever finish with the ARCA/CRA Super Series. Carter picked up the FLUIDYNE High Performance Cool Under Pressure Award. Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year candidate Logan Runyon finished in third, also his best ever finish with the series. Runyon picked up his third Senneker Performance Rookie of the Race Award of the season, tying him with Brock for the most rookie awards so far this season.

Local competitor Drew Charlson came from his ninth place starting position to finish in fourth place, earning the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move of the Race Award. Alsip would finish in fifth place after going to the pits, where his crew made adjustments to the car after falling back through the field earlier in the event. Alsip would fight back to finish just inches ahead of Donnie Hill. Alsip’s crew picked up the PitBoxes.com Pit Crew of the Race Award, first for their efforts to get Alsip’s car ready for the event after suffering heavy damage in the July 9th JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event at Kil-Kare, then making the right adjustments on Alsip’s car so he could get his fifth place finish.

Hill would finish in sixth after starting 14th earning a Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award and the Hamner Racing Engines Hardcharger Award. Brock would finish in seventh, Oakley in eighth, Chad Pendleton in ninth and Stapleton in 10th.

PAGE MAKES LAST LAP PASS FOR DIXIE ULTIMATE WIN

WOODSTOCK, GA – Michael Page of Douglasville, GA only led one lap of the 40-lap ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series South East Region race on Saturday night at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA, but it was the one worth $4,000. Page trailed race leader Jason Croft of Woodstock, GA for 39 laps, but went for broke on the 40th and final lap.

After taking the white flag, Page stepped to the outside of the Swims Family’s 3/8-mile clay oval and made it work as he swept around Croft going off turn two with a standing-room-only crowd on their feet in appreciation. Page then came on around to take a .730 second margin of victory under the checkered flag.

Croft had to settle for second, while third went to ULTIMATE SE point leader Tyler Millwood of Cartersville, GA, who was also the Autolite/Fram/DirtOnDirt.com Rookie of the Race.
Dale Thurman of Cartersville, GA finished fourth and Ross Bailes of Clover, SC was fifth.

Jason Hiatt of Oxford, AL drove to a sixth-place finish, and National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN took the seventh spot. ULTIMATE title contender Jason Welshan of Maryville, TN finished eighth, Johnny Chastain of Murphy, NC was ninth, and Austin Smith of Rome, GA rounded out the top ten.

The defending ULTIMATE SE Champion Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, SC was the Hard Charger of the Race after taking a Provisional, starting 24th, and finishing 14th. Page also picked up a $200 Bonus as the M&W Transport “Haulin’ It” Fast Qualifier by out-timing the 31 entrants with a lap in 15.696 seconds. The two eight-lap B-Main Races were won by Smith and Gary McPherson of Dalton, GA.

Croft started the race from the pole position with Page on the outside of the front row. Croft took the lead, but the caution flag came out on the opening tour after Justin Shipley of Douglasville, GA hit the wall in turn one. Croft took the lead again on the restart with Page in hot pursuit. Frank Ingram of Acworth, GA stalled on the race track to bring out the second yellow flag on lap ten.

The field went back to green flag action with Croft leading and Page chasing for another ten laps before McPherson cut down a right-rear tire on lap 20. Croft was able to maintain a lead on Page after restart, but by lap 30, Page reached the back bumper of the race leader.

Croft seemed to have an advantage on Page in turns one and two; while Page seemed to have the better handling race car in turns three and four. When the leaders reached lapped traffic in the closing laps, Millwood closed in try to make it a three-car battle for the lead. Croft was trying to keep Page pinched down on the inside when he would try to make a run to challenge for the lead.

Anticipating Page to try for another inside run on the last lap, Croft tried to shut the door, but there was no one there. Page went to the outside in turns one and two, and then took the lead down the backstretch. Page then used his advantage in turns three and four to pull away to the $4,000 win.

The next race for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series will be a National Race at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN paying $12,000-to-win and $500-to-start on Thursday night, August 17.

The series will then move to Crossville Speedway in Crossville, TN on Friday night, August 18 for a $4,000-to-win, $400-to-start race co-sanctioned by the ULTIMATE SE Region and the ULTIMATE Battle of the Bluegrass Region.

BARE COLLECTS 2ND JEWEL OF FASTRAK TRIPLE CROWN AT WYTHE

RURAL RETREAT, VA – Although he was wide awake, FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series Mid-Ohio Valley Region point leader Tyler Bare of Rockridge Baths, VA said his #30 Loco Motives Rocket was a dream on Saturday night, as the second-generation driver won the 50-lap second jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series Triple Crown at Wythe Raceway worth $3,000.

Bare took the lead at the halfway point of the 50-lap race when early leader Kenny Peeples of Rural Retreat, VA slowed on a restart. Once in the lead, Bare checked out on the field to take a 4.727 second margin of victory over a driver that Bare admitted intimidated him on a restart.

“My car was just a dream to drive all night long,” Bare said. “I was a little intimated on that lap 30 double-file restart when I looked over and saw Jonathan Davenport next to me! But this race car was such a dream, I can’t say it enough as to how it performed tonight. I didn’t see Davenport after we went green.”

Davenport started ninth and finished second to earn the Hard Charger of the Race Award driving the C&H Paving Barry Wright house car. Davenport had an exciting side-by-side battle with former FASTRAK Champion Ron Parker of Belwood, NC. Parker finished third in the Schaeffer Oil Rocket.

FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series South East Region point leader Matthew Nance finished fourth in the Diversified Finishers Longhorn, and Teddy Tate of Rural Retreat, VA took the fifth spot in the R&C Towing CVR. Brent Hilton of Rural Retreat, VA was sixth in the Cedar Springs Fish Farms Barry Wright, and Lance Reynolds of Max Meadows, VA drove the Reynolds Racing Warrior to a seventh-place finish.

Terry Cregger of Crockett, VA took the eighth spot in the Grayson Restaurant Barry Wight and Benji Hicks of Mt. Airy, NC finished ninth in the T&K Enterprises Longhorn. The defending FASTRAK Champion Cla Knight of North Augusta, SC rounded out the top ten in the Augusta Aquatics Longhorn.

In preliminary action, Peeples was the Fast Qualifier, touring the ½-mile high-banked clay oval in 17.775 seconds driving the Hilltop Auto Wholesale Barry Wright. The two eight-lap Heat Races were won by Bare and Peeples.

Bare continues to lead the FASTRAK MOV standings with 133 points, but there is a logjam behind him in the Top 5. Parker is second with 115 points, while Hicks and Nance are tied for third with 114 points apiece. Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, TN is fifth with 112 points. Ford was involved in a lap 29 accident and finished 14th in the Tim Byrd Motorsports TNT.

Nance remains the FASTRAK SE point leader, as the point lead failed to change hands after a race for the first time this season. Nance has 241 points to hold a six-point advantage over Parker , who climbed up to the second spot in the FASTRAK SE standings 235 points, Hicks is third with 231 points, Ford is fourth with 225 points, and Knight is fifth with 223 points.

After the first two jewels of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown, Bare leads the standings with 67 points, and holds a three point lead over Parker, who has 64 points. Hicks and Hilton are tied for the third spot with 60 points apiece, and Nance is fifth with 56 points.

Knight is sixth with 53 points and Ford is seventh with 51 points. Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA and Tate are tied for eighth with 47 points apiece, and Brandon Umberger of Rural Retreat, VA rounds out the top ten in the FASTRAK Triple Crown points with 45 points. The third and final jewel of the 12th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown will be a $2,500-to-win race on August 5 at Princeton Speedway in Princeton, WV.

Peeples took the lead on the first lap followed by Bare, Hilton, Hicks, and Ford. The third lap saw Ford work to the inside of Hicks of take over the fourth spot. The first of three caution flags came out on lap five when Chase McCormick of Dobson, NC stalled the Long Brothers of Smithfield Rocket in turn two.

Peeples chose the outside for the FASTRAK Double-File Restart with Bare, Hilton, Ford, Hicks, Parker, Davenport, Cregger, Nance and Tate in the top ten behind him. Ford got an inside run on Hilton coming down the front straightaway on lap six to move up to the third spot, and Parker got by Hicks to take over the fifth position.

Peeples was able to maintain a two to three car length advantage on Bare, while Ford was able to keep the two leaders in sight from the third position. Peeples and Bare began to encounter the cars on the tail end of the lead lap by lap 18.

Jon Painter of Stuarts Draft, VA made hard contact with the turn two guard rail in the Arborlife Rocket to bring out the second caution flag of the race, which turned to a red flag to give the safety crew proper room to work. Painter was able to walk away uninjured. Peeples led Bare, Ford, Hilton, Davenport, Parker, Cregger, Hicks, Nance, and Knight down for the restart.

When the green flag was waived to signal the restart, Peeples’ car was slow coming up to speed and Bare bolted out to the lead. As Peeples fell back through the field like a rock, top ten drivers either scrambled to miss him, or braked hard to keep from making contact with him.

Davenport and Parker moved up to second and third respectively after restarting fifth and sixth and Nance came from ninth up to fifth. Ford restarted directly behind Peeples on the restart, and he had to brake hard to keep from hitting Peeples, and dropped out of the top five. Ford would cross paths with Peeples one more time.

Going down the backstretch on lap 30, Peeples cut down a right-rear tire, and in his effort to get out of the racing groove, he came across the front of Ford’s car. Ford cut hard left trying to avoid contact, spun and hit the inside guard rail on the backstretch. That brought out the final caution flag of the race.

Bare was able to clear Davenport on the restart and then he began to check out on the field. Behind the leader, there were several position changes among the top ten drivers. Hicks made a charge to move up to the fourth spot on lap 31, but Nance and Hilton kept it a hard fought battle for the fourth position.

Nance put his car past Hicks on lap 32 for fourth, and lap 33 saw Tate move up to the fifth spot and make it four-car battle. Parker closed up on Davenport on 35 to engage in the side-by-side battle for the second spot. With ten laps to go, Bare had a half straightaway lead over Parker and Davenport. Lap 47 saw Davenport get an inside run to clear Parker for the second spot, but Bare was long gone with a full straightaway lead.

The next race for the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series South East Region will be on Friday night with a $2,000-to-win, $250-to-start 40-lap event at 311 Motor Speedway in Pine Hall, NC.

Andrew Hopkins Wins Third Feature Of The Year In Late Model Sportsman and Eric Moon Wins Second Feature Of The Year In Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds At East Bay Raceway Park

GIBSONTON — At East Bay Raceway it was Wade Evans picking up the win in the Micro Sprints, Jim Baker in the Hobby Stocks, Eric Moon in the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Danny Bowman, Jr. in the 4 Cylinder Bombers and Andrew Hopkins in the Late Model Sportsman.

In the 15-lap Micro Sprints it was Wade Evans picking up his third win of the season over second place Joseph Taylor and third place Cliff Evans.

In the 15-lap Hobby Stock feature it was Jim Baker picking up his first feature win of the year over second place David Barwick, II and third place Buck Woodhouse.

In the 15-lap Gagel’s Open Wheel Modified feature it was Eric Moon winning his second feature of the year over second place Bill Howard, Sr. and third place Paul Shead.
