NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR AUGUST 20

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The points battle for the $10,000 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship continues to tighten up after Week 21 competition, as Chase Washington of Houlka, MS has closed to within one point of Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA at the top of the points list.

Washington took his tenth win of the season on Friday night at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO to net two points driving the Jerry Inmon Racing Special.  Trosclair was also planning on making the trip to Malden Speedway, but his tow rig broke down, and rainouts on Saturday night and Sunday night prevented Trosclair from attempting to net points. Kyle Grissom Makes it Two in a Row and Four on the Year in Best Race Thus Far This Season for PASS South Series

Charlotte, NC 8/20/12- The fans of the South Boston (VA) Speedway were treated to a barn burner of a race Saturday night as Kyle Grissom held off a hungry field of drivers to score his second win in a row and fourth of the season. Rookie Nate Caruth made things very interesting on the final lap before settling for second. The runner-up finish is a career best for the Iowa native driving for NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski. Jody Lavender in his first start of 2012 rounded out the podium with his third place run.

Brandon Ward set fast time during qualifying before redrawing eighth putting veteran Jay Fogleman on the pole and Ross Kenseth to his outside to take the green flag for the 150 lap event. Kenseth got the jump on the start putting his #25 machine out front for the first nineteen laps before Fogleman raced side-by-side with Kenseth to take his turn leading. Meanwhile it was Steve Wallace who, “went where no man has gone before”, as he piloted his #66 machine to the high side of field up against the outside wall of the South Boston Speedway going from eleventh to the taking the lead on lap thirty-one. Hetznecker Racing Update for 8-17-2012 BRP Ocala

The team went into this Friday night with high expectations given the recent performance of the car and Blaise’s experience in the Limited Late.  First up was practice which once again was nothing more than running the track in and making sure everything was tight on the car.

The heat race however did not leave us disappointed as Blaise went on to lead all six laps and pull out to half straight lead, beating both last weeks winner and the eventual winner of this nights race. Unfortunately the invert had us starting 5th for the feature race.

We decided not to make any changes to the car which would later cost us as the track lost some bite.  When the race went green Blaise struggled for forward bite and drove hard trying to maintain and make passes.  As the race went on there were several cautions including one that had the flipping 21 car ripping the right side spoiler off.   (more…)

Schatz Magical in Front of Hometown Fans at Nodak Speedway

The Minot native records his fourth win in the last seven Outlaws points events

MINOT, N.D. – Aug. 19, 2012 – After arguably the loudest cheer he has heard all season, Donny Schatz had a rare – and brief – emotional moment in Victory Lane on Sunday.

In front of a packed facility in the town where he grew up, Schatz picked up his first career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory in the Magic City Showdown Presented by Gerdau, Sleep Inn & Suites, Minot Visitors Bureau and Magic City Implement at Nodak Speedway.

“This is where it all started for me,” he said. “This is where I made my first laps in a car and my family is from. To be here a few times and come close to winning, tonight we get to taste that victory. It’s as special as the Knoxville Nationals. To hear the crowds’ reaction and to get that trophy in front of that grandstands means everything to me.”

It continued a hot streak during the past seven points races when Schatz has amassed four wins, six podiums, seven top-five finishes and an average finish of 2.0 to close within 20 points of championship points leader Craig Dollansky. (more…)

Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds Gear up for Rolling Wheels

Get Higher at “The Fast Track” with Season’s First 150-Point Race

ELBRIDGE, N. Y. – August 20, 2012 – The Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series battle for points heats up for the 100-lap, 150-point ninth round Sunday, September 2, at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. With only a few races left before NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI and the Sixth Annual Lowes Foods World Finals, and with the winner’s share of points increasing from 100 to 150, anything can happen between now and the championship.

Jimmy Phelps, second in points, trails leader and defending series champion Matt Sheppard by just 50 points and hopes resurrecting some old tactics can bring him success at the Stars & Stripes 100. The Baldwinsville, N. Y., native began his career racing regularly at Rolling Wheels, but his 2011 season saw uncharacteristic results with seventh- and eighth-place finishes. However, some retrospective strategizing helped him to an improved fourth-place finish at “The Fast Track’s” 66-lapper during All-Star Weekend in May. (more…)

Grossenbacher Tops Super Late Models at Citrus County Speedway

Citrus County Speedway roared back to life this past Saturday night, after taking a week off to beat the summer heat. Citrus County Speedway fans were treated to 78 cars and drivers filling the pit area for an action packed night of racing.

13 Super Late Models took the green for their 35 lap feature event with Scott Grossenbacher (09) on the pole position and Randy Anderson (4) along side. You had the feeling that which ever driver won the drag race to turn 1, would go on to take the victory. Grossenbacher would win that drag race, moving to the lead before lap 1 was completed. Anderson would try to keep pace with Grossenbacher, hoping for a mistake by the leader. That mistake would never come, and the race would go green for the entire 35 lap distance. Grossenbacher would go on to take his 1st feature win of the 2012 season, with Anderson settling for a distant 2nd. Drew Brannon (82) was you biggest mover of the race, coming from the 10th starting spot, to take home the 3rd position at the checkers. (more…)
