20130224-013053.jpg

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (Ocala, FL) – The USAC Amsoil National Sprint Cars and the Southern States Midgets Series were given the honor to complete the 26 day Bubba Army Winter Nationals and they completed it in style!

The Southern States Midgets went into the night with a tie atop the standings- Ryan Partin of Florida and Aaron Farney of Indiana both had 163 to their name! Farney won Fast Qualifier with a 16.003 and won the Heat meaning he needed only to finish 2nd to wrap up the Florida portion of the championship. Damon Fortune would jump to the lead while Farney and Partin chased just as they had done 24 hours prior. Farney took the lead for a brief moment but didn’t take it completely until lap 8. On lap 10 Partin would end his night and bring out the race’s only caution. Farney took an easy win in the race and a hard-fought championship with it. Fortune would wind up 2nd while Andy Bradley, Darrin Davis, and Partin completed the top 5.

USAC Preliminary Events started with Qualifying and it was Chase Stockon again on top with a 13.936 (96.87 MPH) which was just .117 off of Bryan Clauson’s NTR set on Thursday. Stockon would win his heat as would Chris Windom, who had flipped the night before and was using a back-up car. Landon Simon won his first career USAC Heat and Brady Bacon rounded Heat race action up with another win. Robert Ballou would win the B Main and Chris Gurley, again, used a Provisional to make the 23-car field. (more…)

Moyer Holds On For World of Outlaws Late Model Series Victory Friday Night At Volusia Speedway Park

Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Adds To Alltime Record Win Total In UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit

BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 22, 2013 – Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., added to his alltime record win total in the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment, holding on for a hard-fought victory in Friday night’s 50-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main at Volusia Speedway.

Righting a frustrating week of action at the half-mile oval, Moyer passed WoO LMS rookie Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky., for the lead on lap 11 and never looked back. He repelled repeated late-race challenges from defending tour champion Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., to secure the $10,200 triumph.

“We’ve had a rough (week) down here,” said Moyer, whose forgettable outings leading up to Friday’s checkered flag included the WoO LMS A-Main the previous evening when he was forced out of action on lap one by a broken tie-rod. “It feels good to finally get this one under our belt.”

Moyer, 55, made the right moves in lapped traffic to put some critical space on Lanigan and crossed the finish line 1.368 seconds ahead of York, Pa.’s Rick Eckert, who slipped by Lanigan on lap 48 to earn the runner-up spot for the second consecutive night. Lanigan settled for a third-place finish after starting from the pole position, Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., started and finished fourth and Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., placed fifth for his fifth top-five run in seven WoO LMS events this season. For Nine Years, Rick Laubach Traveled from Pennsylvania to Florida, Hoping to Score a Victory His Whole Family Could Watch

BARBERVILLE, FLA – February 23, 2013 – When Rick Laubach pulled his Enders-powered No. 7 TEO chassis out of victory lane yesterday, a crowd of a couple dozen people followed him. His extended family gathered around his pit stall after the race to help him celebrate his first-ever win in the state.

“My family lives down in Fort Lauderdale,” said Lauter, of Quakertown, Penn. “When I come here it’s like a little bit of a reunion. I get to see my niece, my sister, and everybody. My parents come down and it’s fun.”

They were all there to watch him beat Big Block Modified legend Danny Johnson to the finish line Friday, Feb. 22, for the third of four Super DIRTcar Series feature events during UNOH DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park.

“It really feels awesome. I knew we felt good tonight coming here and it couldn’t get any better,” said Laubach, who has competed in UNOH DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment for nine years. “It means a little more to us, I guess.”

Laubach’s success started early Friday, clocking the fastest lap in timed hot laps at 17.610 seconds. He won his heat and a lucky redraw let him pick the outside pole starting position. He took the lead at the green, and kept it through 30 laps and four cautions. (more…)

TAMPA, FL……Because of the luck of the draw Steve Poiriet from St. Mathieu de Bebeil, Quebec had to start 12th in the last heat race for the 48 cars on hand for the  l5th Annual “King of 360’s” Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park, but he finished fifth and acquired enough passing points to start third in the feature and came home with his first win ever at East Bay worth $l,500.)

Tonight is not his biggest win in Sprints because he won the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals three times – 2007, 2008 and 2012 at Ohsweken Speedway.  But he told track announcer Russ Calabrese that all his family at home was tuned in to watch the Winternationals at East Bay and can’t wait for the $10,000 to win tomorrow in the12th Annual Ronald Laney Memorial.

Tracy Hines Steals The Show At Bubba Raceway Park

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (Ocala, FL) – Once more the USAC stars took to the 3/8 mile clay oval and the Southern States Midgets Series joined them to put on a fantastic night of racing. There was even a special appearance from Kyle Larson who will start 21st in tomorrow’s NASCAR Nationwide Series season-opening 300-miler at Daytona.

The Southern States Midgets were up first and they did not disappoint. Damon Fortune jumped to the lead from his pole position but Aaron Farney and last night’s winner Ryan Partin were able to keep pace with him. As those 3 worked their way around the track with laps close to 16.175 (Farnay’s Fast Qualifer time) it was Darrin Davis who again struggled and parked half-way through. On lap 11 Fortune ran out of luck and spun while leading and he collected Partin with him; Fortune was done but Partin continued on with a damaged right front suspension. Aaron Farnay, the young driver from Indiana, was able to capitalize and take home the trophy while Partin fought back to 2nd place. Andy Bradley won the family battle with Scott Bradley and Fortune finished in 5th position. (more…)

TIM SHAFFER WINS THURSDAY NIGHT OF EAST BAY’S 15th ANNUAL KING OF 360’S

TAMPA, FL……..Tim Shaffer had Ron Hammons 360 Maxim powered by a Bob Hampshire engine hooked up to the new surface at East Bay Raceway Park as he took the lead on lap nine of the 25 lap opening night feature over a field of 48 cars to start the 37th year anniversary year for the Winternationals.

Just as he did in 2010 when he captured both preliminary night features,  Shaffer looked strong out of the box collecting the $1,500 prize with no challengers past the half-way mark on this the l5th Annual “King of 360’s”.

“We have a pretty good team that makes it a fun way to make a living.  Life is too short to not have fun at this and when they made the track wider, that was to our liking,” said the happy winner to track announcer Russ Calabrese.  “When Danny Martin spun and almost collected me on lap 18, but we escaped, it was our night to win, so we will take it.”

He started his Maxim third behind Kyle Sauder and Michael Miller with Jerod Roller outside.  Row three showed Greg Wilson and Jason Sides followes by Terry McCarl, Danny Holtgraver, Ryan Moore and Lou Kennedy in the top ten.  After a shaky start which was yellow flagged, Miller jumped to the lead and pulled away to a two second lead.

Shaffer worked the inside groove for the next several laps, finally taking the lead for good on lap nine and lapping his first car on lap 10.  By lap 17 Shaffer was a straightaway ahead when on lap l8 Danny Martin spun (that almost collected Shaffer) bringing the field to a tight formation with Miller second, Roller third and a hard charging Kennedy up into fourth, followed by Tim Crawley in fifth. This Time Clauson Takes The Trophy

Jim Rouse, BRP Media 2-21-13 Ocala, FL – The USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Championship began their season with a thriller at Bubba Raceway Park while the Southern States Division II Midgets put on some exciting racing as well.

The Midgets had a wild 15-lapper that started with Aaron Farnay, Darrin Davis, and Ryan Partin the starting order. Partin made quick work of Davis who’s car started to smoke as the race came to a close. With Davis’ off the pace it left just Partin to defend home soil and he did just that as he strolled to his first ever win on the 3/8 mile track. Farnay finished in a solid 2nd place and Davis went back to the chalkboard in 3rd.

USAC Preliminary Events started with Chase Stockton falling less than 0.15 off of the track record but he did walk away with the Fast Qualifer Award. Nick Drake would start the heat races off with a win and Brady Scott, “The Wild Child” Jac Haudenschild, and Shane Cottle followed in his footsteps. The 4 heats locked 16 cars in and a B Main, won by Chris Windom, secured 6 more spots on the 22-car starting grid.

Feature action started with Dave Darland and Coleman Gulick going at it up front before a lap 3 red flag when Shane Cottle flipped his #2. “The Throttle” walked away from the crash but lost valuable time and cash. On the restart Gulick found himself doing 2 full 360s before the yellow was displayed; however, under yellow, he lost his cool and rammed Darland (who he was upset with for the restart that seemed slow) and was immediately parked. Action didn’t stop there as he pulled to the pit exit and showed his displeasure to Darland who nearly earned a black flag himself. (more…)

Bloomquist Finds Winning Combination In Opener Of World of Outlaws Late Model Series Tripleheader At Volusia Speedway Park

Tennessee Star Moves Into Second Place On Alltime UNOH DIRTcar Nationals By Summit Victory List

BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 21, 2013 – Scott Bloomquist believed he had a winning car after capturing a World of Outlaws Late Model Series heat race on Thursday night during the 42nd UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway.

The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer from Mooresburg, Tenn., then proved it in the 50-lap A-Main, charging by race-long pacesetter Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky., for the lead on lap 37 and pulling away to win the first WoO LMS event of the mid-winter motorsports extravaganza outside Daytona Beach.

Bloomquist, 49, raced unchallenged once in front, crossing the finish line 3.260 seconds ahead of York, Pa.’s Rick Eckert. Eckert slid by Wells for the runner-up spot on lap 48, and moments later Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., passed Wells to secure a third-place finish.

The 24-year-old Wells, who is chasing the 2013 WoO LMS Rookie of the Year award, settled for a career-best tour finish of fourth after starting from the outside pole and leading laps 1-36. Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., completed the top five, salvaging a fifth-place finish after starting 22nd, climbing as high as fourth and then restarting at the rear after his involvement in a multi-car tangle on lap 31 forced him to pit.

Bloomquist’s $10,200 triumph was the ninth of his career during the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals by Summit, moving him into sole possession of second place on the event’s alltime win list behind Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., an 18-time DNC winner who started third in Thursday’s A-Main but retired after one lap due to a broken right-front tie-rod. He has won at least once during the DCN in each of the last three years.

“I felt pretty confident we had something for ‘em,” Bloomquist said of his mindset entering the evening’s headliner. “The car was just awesome. (It) was wrecked really bad last night on both ends, but we worked all night, fixed this thing and got it right.” (more…)
