Steve Kinser Slides to His Second Victory of the Season

Steve Kinser Slides to His Second Victory of the Season

081313_JUNCTION_VLMcCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. – August 13, 2013 – Steve Kinser has returned to victory, bringing cheers from the crowd as the 20-time World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion climbed from his car at the end of the 30-lap feature at Junction Motor Speedway on Tuesday night.

Kerry Madsen, who started on the pole, tightened the battle for the lead towards the end of the feature event, even leading lap 28. Madsen lost the lead on the next laps and settled for second. Donny Schatz, who is coming off his seventh FVP Knoxville Nationals title, rounded out the podium.

Justin Henderson had a strong run early in the race, running second early and giving up third to Schatz late to finish fourth while Kings Royal winner Brad Sweet finished out the top five. Sweet’s Kasey Kahne Racing teammate and World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship leader, Daryn Pittman, missed the top five by just one spot.

Kinser dominated much of the feature in his Bad Boy Buggies Maxim until around lap 20 when Aussie Madsen ran him down after Kinser struggled on the exit of turn four on a couple of occasions. As Kinser struggled to weave around lap cars, Madsen drew nearer by nearly throwing his car onto the bottom of one and two and willing the car to stick. On lap 25 Madsen passed Kinser for the first time, but Kinser stuck with him and won the drag race on the back stretch. (more…)

Erik Jones earns career-first ARCA victory; dominates Primera Plastics 200 at Berlin

1016427_10151749308496919_2114949269_n(MARNE, Mich.) – 17-year-old Erik Jones took advantage of several long green flag runs Saturdaynight and led more than 150 laps to win the Primera Plastics 200 at Berlin Raceway.

Jones won his first ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race and became the third different driver to go to Victory Lane in the No. 15 Venturini Motorsports Toyota this season.

“What a relief,” Jones said after winning the race. “During those last 50 laps, I was hearing all kinds of noises in the car. I was just hoping it would stay together and nothing would break. It’s just amazing to come here and win.”

Jones finished ahead of Mason Mingus, in the No. 32 811 Call Before You Dig Toyota, and the 44 of Frank Kimmel in the Ansell-Menards Toyota. Cunningham Motorsports driver Austin Wayne Self and polesitter Mason Mitchell in the Happy Cheeks Ford rounded out the top five.

Jones finished second in June at Pocono Raceway, then last week was leading with two laps to go before hitting the wall and then subsequent engine trouble left him with a 12th place finish. He said winning at Berlin Raceway – his home track – is somewhat of redemption.

“I’ve made a few mistakes that have cost us a win, so this one is nice,” Jones said. “I’ve probably raced this track about 10 times in a late model. I’ve had good late models and bad late models, but I’ve never won here. Last year, in the ARCA race, I finished third. Winning here is really nice.” (more…)

NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series August 12 Round Up

dudleyVLeams081013CARTERSVILLE, GA – Several drivers made advances in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings after Week 20 of the 27-week 2013 season.  Teammates Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS did not net any points over the weekend on their best 14 week point totals, but they remain one-two in the standings.

Daspit still leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 693 points after 11 wins, 21 top five finishes, and 22 top ten finishes in 25 races.  Daspit was the apparent winner on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, but the rear spoiler on his Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star failed the post-race technical inspection.

Even if Daspit wasn’t disqualified, he still would have failed to net any points, as there were only five cars at Southern Raceway, and it would have been a 40-point win.  Daspit needed to finish third or better in a field of eight or more cars to gain any points on his best 14 week total. (more…)

Tampa, FL (8/10/2013), This week 11 year-old Tyler Clem begins another chapter in his racing career with an introduction into the Clem Racing’s 1800 ASKGARY / TSR Winged Sprint.

Clem Racing team set the car up prior to the event, and was rolled out of the CRI hauler and into to Tyler’s hands (as is) to begin the evenings practice sessions and racing.   In practice during Saturday night’s Bubba Raceway Park Limited Wing Sprint Car event, Tyler took to the clay with nothing more than shaking a new car down, and becoming familiar with the power and handling of a sprint car.  Surprising becoming familiar was rather quick, in fact he seemed quite comfortable.

Although not officially in the race for points or awards, Tyler finished 4th in his heat.  Tyler’s feature race was a mixture of middle of the pack, and later part of the field.  Towards the final laps Tyler was experimenting working the high-side when he scrubbed the turn 4 wall, and decided that it would be best to call it a night.
