Lanigan Rolls To Victory In Berlin Raceway’s Keyser Manufacturing ‘Down & Dirty 75’ By NAPA For Second Consecutive Year

National Tour’s Winningest Driver Dominates Special Event On Clay-Covered Asphalt Track

092113_BerlinVLMARNE, MI – Sept. 21, 2013 – This time Darrell Lanigan didn’t need to pull off any late-race dramatics to win the Keyser Manufacturing ‘Down & Dirty 75’ Presented by NAPA Auto Parts at Berlin Raceway.

Lanigan, 43, of Union, Ky., emerged victorious in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series special for the second consecutive year in convincing fashion, grabbing the lead from Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., on lap 33 and dominating the remainder of the distance behind the wheel of his self-owned Rocket car.

Continuing his mastery of a 7/16th-mile asphalt oval that for the second straight year was covered with clay for a late-season return to its dirt-track roots, Lanigan turned back brief threats from Clanton on restarts and while negotiating lapped traffic to cross the finish line 4.629 seconds – over a full straightaway – ahead of his fellow WoO LMS regular. The two-time tour champion earned $15,650 for his series-leading 11th triumph of 2013.

“We all put our heads together on this setup and it was unbelievable,” said Lanigan, who recorded his 52nd career win on the WoO LMS. “It’s a completely different setup from what we had last year (at Berlin), but it was definitely good.” (more…)

Fire And Ice

IMG_2632Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL- The Bubba Army Limited Sprints, Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, E-Mods, and 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks all put on some fantastic shows at Bubba Raceway Park on a wonderful summer night.

The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks opened up action with Melvin Fockler leading until a lap four restart saw Brandon Elwood topple over in his #28. Elwood was okay and actually drove the car into the pits. Jason Gamble used the restart to hound Fockler for the lead and made the pass on lap seven, but he saw his lead vanish when he got loose in turn four and contact from Jonathan Appleby sent him spinning. A few late race cautions kept the field tight and Appleby would win over Gamble. Pat Mennenga finished third with Brandon Tillander fourth and William Gillam opening up his championship lead with a top five.

Shane Nichols dominated the E-Mod feature by leading the three caution affair from green to checkered. A late race spin from Devin Walker gave Jon Layerd a shot at Nichols but he couldn’t make the pass leaving Nichols with the win. Layerd, Devin Walker, Heath Walker, and Dave Arivett. Nichols received a $50 bonus from Lonestar Cable and Rick Scott. (more…)

TURNER TAMES THE TAZ FOR FIRST CHEVY SUPER SERIES WIN

1274022_705867906097199_1397257686_oTAZEWELL, TN – Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA threw caution to the wind and rode the treacherous guard rails of Tazewell Speedway to his first Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series win on Sunday night in the West Chevrolet 50 driving the J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment Special.

After hard contact with the second turn guard rail on a lap nine restart knocked him back to the third spot, Turner recovered, stayed on the high side of the high banks, and drove around the outside of both second-place William Thomas of Phenix City, AL and race leader Tim Busha of Boaz, AL on lap 28 to take the lead, and go on to collect the $3,000 top prize with the victory.

“That was a hard hit on the restart, but the car felt good, so we just kept digging,” Turner said.  “Our car worked the best on the high side right up against the guard rail, so as long as it didn’t reach out and grab us, we were good.  The Chevrolet Performance CT 525 engine was a good fit for this race track because I could run flat out through turns three and four.  It was a pretty awesome ride from where I was sitting, and I hope the fans saw a good show tonight.” (more…)

Don O’Neal Wins His Fourth Jackson 100 Saturday Night at Brownstown Speedway

1003321_10151812505374636_2046558642_nBROWNSTOWN, IN (September 21, 2013) – Don O’Neal picked up his fourth career Jackson 100 victory, at the historic Jackson County Fairgrounds bullring. O’Neal took the lead from defending race winner, Jimmy Owens after a lap 68 restart and pulled away from the field for the $15,000 win in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event. The 34th Annual Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway was also part of the ASi Crown Jewel Cup Presented by DirtonDirt.com.

Dustin Linville charged from his ninth starting spot to finish second.  John Blankenship came home third, followed by Owens and 23rd starting, Steve Francis rounding out the top five.

“I can’t believe it,” said O’Neal, who had missed almost a month of the LOLMDS season after suffering a back injury in August.  “This is my home track; it’s great to win here in front of these fans.  The track was a little rough with the rain, but it was extremely racy.  After that last caution, I don’t know what happened to the 20 car, but once we were out front, it was smooth sailing,” said O’Neal in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 33rd time in his career.

“I just took a deep breath on that caution, Jimmy was running a good line there, and it was going to be tough to catch him and pass him.  When the race restarted I just went by him, and then found a fast line.  I have to thank Tader Masters, MasterSbilt Race Cars, Jay Dickens Racing Engines, Optima Batteries, Seubert Calf Ranches, Tarpy Trucking, Superior Cleaning, and Independence Lumber and all of our great product sponsors that make this possible.” (more…)

“We’ve had really good set ups for these cars lately, but, for Iowa, for some reason, our car was off,” LaJoie said. “We went back to the drawing board after Iowa and put together what we thought would be good at Kentucky, and it ended up being really good. It was a great day.”

LaJoie, a Richard Petty Motorsports Development Driver, won at Chicagoland Speedway in July and Pocono Raceway in August. In the Roulo Brothers Racing No. 17, LaJoie led the most laps in the ZLOOP 150, which was held Saturday after being rained out on Friday. LaJoie led 40 of 100 laps.
